I am only level 40, and about 15 of my levels were as assassin and 25 as strider, rough estimate. The vast majority of my time's been spent as a strider though.

My bow is really lovely, I can't find a magic archer bow that isn't the magian crutch yet

Ok then you're just fine, I leveled to around 50 as strider/ranger then to 100 as a sorc/ma and I'm cruising BBI just fine. In the beginning of the game the easiest way to find better weapons is to simply advance the plot since this opens up new vendor options.

Another option is to run through BBI until you encounter Barroch (doesn't take long, forced encounter so you can't miss him) who will sell you all sorts of weapons and armor. I'm not completely sure if he breaks the usual game stage limits on the stuff he sells but you could always try your luck.

If you can't find a decent ma bow without a hassle you could always consider leveling up as a sorcerer to get that augment and more mag.

Hey folks, I just bought this after wanting to get the original back when it came out. Made a dwarf mage Pawn named Hrodalf and added myself to the Sheet in the OP.

I'm looking to make my arisen into a Magic Archer eventually, starting out as a Strider. Is there anything in particular I should keep in mind during leveling?

Also should I bother trying to get any sort of optional quests on my first run? I've heard this game is kind of ruthless with how it handles new players.

Yeah, there are 5 pieces of evidence you need to turn in to get Fournival found innocent.

For leveling, don't worry about min/maxing, but it couldn't hurt to take Fighter to rank 5 at some point to get the Sinew augment. Makes inventory weight management much less of a hassle.

Other than that, it wouldn't hurt to check Cassdardis and the encampment every now and then for quests, but unless you're achievement hunting, feel free to take the Nier approach: If it sounds fun (or if it sounds like something that'll occur eventually anyway, like the kill X of Y notice board stuff), do it. If it sounds like a hassle, skip it.

Quick question: Is there a way to 'reset' the cursed item purification table or whatever it is? Level 3 weapons and armor are expensive, and if I could just Godsbane my way out, reset what it'll give me, and get back to it, that'd be a lot less taxing on the RC wallet

Not really, though you can influence what you get to some extent. No matter how many times you godsbane, if the game wants to give you a hammer, it's giving you a hammer. But it will only give you that hammer if you or your pawn are a "red" class, or a hybrid class that's half red (fighter, warrior, assassin, mystic knight). If you switch you and your pawn to a yellow one like strider, it might give you a longbow every time. If you switched to blue classes, it might give you an archstave every time.

If you do this switching vocations thing to get a weapon that's maybe slightly more appealing, the next time you get a L3 weapon it will be completely different and you likely won't get the hammer if you're a red class. Generally what I do is switch my and my pawn's vocations to the type of class I want a weapon for. If you aren't getting what you want, see what you can nab from all 3 vocation types. Maybe there's something in there for your pawn, or for a vocation that you switch to occasionally.

This works for armor and skill rings, too.

Yeah, I did some experimenting with the two Level 3 cursed weapons I have. One set of vocations nets me a Mace and a Shield, the other gets me two Magick Bows, and the other gets me two Archstaves. None of these weapons I use in any capacity whatsoever. :negative:

So I guess I just need to purify those and do runs of Daimon until I get the weapons/equipment I'm looking for? Or can I just gift them away and have the next Level 3 weapon I pick up be picked randomly again?

If you gift them away, your next L3 weapons will be that mace/shield, double magic bow, or double archstave setup. Just gotta purify them, unfortunately.

This isn't a bad perk, IMO. I've gotten that Mace several times, and I kept one and the rest(I have gotten a few) kept me nicely in the money that I'd end up spending. Still, it IS a bit annoying how they have it set up. I don't mind them encouraging people to want to farm their own stuff and trade cursed items, but I can't help but feel there could have been a middle ground(like Godsbaneing if you don't want the stuff and trading the cursed items would open up a new set of Cursed items for you perhaps.)

I think it's supposed to be like an in-game week. I know BBI is 3 days, though. Maybe it's the same in the Everfall now.

Also, sorry to any goon that decided to rent my pawn (PSN: ATH-EM7 in the spreadsheet) and saw her completely unequipped. I forgot the game resets your pawn's equipment when you finish and don't continue on to the Encampment in NG+ cycles.

Weird. Running through the Everfall, rockin' most stuff, but all the rare items I seem to get are either lady clothes (which, with a male main + pawn, isn't the greatest) or Dragonblood rings (which I've found two of). At least the ring seems really good.

That's the only part of the overworld that got repopulated with incredibly dangerous monsters though, the rest is more or less the same. And it doesn't last that long, unless you want to take your sweet time and get awesome gear.

I really owe those 2 more, so Next set of BBI weapons I get, I'll send over.

I swapped my pawn's (Adiric)vocation to mage, and he is now rocking the regeneration robe, and pretty ballin weapons. He isn't that high up on the vocation chart yet, but I'll fix that this weekend.

I just took his second form down and i needed at least 15 god drat demon periapts. Didn't use sixfold(didn't have it) But the only thing that did damage to him was my regular shot and hopping right up on his face and 100 kissing it to death before he bolted me off. I really hope that we get some "Endless Survival" DLC. I just want to have a non-stop stream of targets to fight, and while the everfall is good for that it's kind of annoying getting from room to room and keeping track of which ones I've cleared already.

That said, I really love the red vocations now. It's so cool to deflect an attack, counter, break their block and then get them in a headlock so your pawns can stab it in the face. Not to mention using Holy Wall to tank crazy poo poo like dragon breath.

You don't need Periapts but you should still use them since they cut the fight time down to like 25%. Periapts are super cheap and the extra farming efficiency more than makes up for it, since a single spare Lv. 3 weapon is close to a million gold.

So, what are successful magic archers and mystic knights doing in BBI? I'm lvl 121 with most of my levels in sorceror or hybrid magic classes, and am using a dragon forged dragon's quickening, but stuff like death, prisoner cyclopses and the drakes are nearly immune to my attacks. It's even worse as a mystic knight, as my magic attack with an ascalon is barely 1100 and most big critters are simply immune to anything that isn't stone forest. Am I going to have to grind with periapts until I get some super special weapon?

MA takes some patience until you find a cursed weapon lv2 and luck out on the roll to get a tempest. You can patch your magic by wearing the trophy gear (chest, legs and gloves) and using the mag boosting augments.

I found that Death is best fought in tight quarters where you can use ricochet to maximum effect. Goreclops were usually very easy since you can often fight them from above where they can't hit you, they're weak to ice so six/ninefold to the face wrecks them. Drakes are also weak to ice so six/ninefold works there too, you might want to avoid shooting their wings so they will waste time flying up.

e: You might want to try the Magic Rebuffer ma dagger skill, I don't know how much it buffs mag and mag def but it's worth a try.

e2: I haven't verified it myself but the wiki claims that the ma bow you get from fighting Grigori is now stronger than the everfall bow, I hope you killed him as a ma!

Assassin and Warrior are the two classes I've had the most fun with, but will I have to level my guy up as a Sorceror for 10-20 levels to get him to do anything as a MA or MK?
