Yeah, I'm only in my mid-twenties and I recall a few daytime cartoons from when I was little using "gypped". I'd wager that the vast majority of American kids that even use the term nowadays don't realize that it's pejorative. It's just a term that we picked up from hearing the adults using it.

I've always felt GOP obstructionism against Obama was based purely on that and the pretty much universal consensus that Bush was a "miserable failure". Conservatives were made to feel humiliated by Bush and given their "we can do no wrong" meglomania, they've just never been able to swallow & process it.
