I walk through the train station most days and laugh at the guys with their unloaded rifles. Ai'ta, a militant breton language group, blocks the driveway of the French Prime Minister's secondary home in Brittany. They collected a bunch of monolingual road signs and used them in their barricade.    The guy with the French flag represents both the French state and the Breton personification of death, the Ankou.

David Simon is on the verge of being a socialist, though. He understands how rotten to the core capitalism is and can explain why it is perfectly but can't bring himself to just say what we need to do is get rid of it and put something new in its' place because of how indoctrinated we're all led to believe non-market economies are dystopian hellholes.

Labour protest during a strike in Ådalen 1931. A couple minutes later five people will be killed by the military in an attempt to stop the protesters from reaching strike breakers. Since then, the military can't be used against demonstraions or civilians.

al-Qaeda is more shorthand for "Salafi extremists influenced by violent Qutbi ideology" than a name for any single jihadist group de facto. al-Qaeda was and is a very real group in and of itself but pretty much any faction with whom they share ideology is likely to be labeled "al-Qaeda affiliated" whether or not they have actual organizational links to al-Qaeda.
