Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is on PSN sale right now. 5 bucks for the game, or 15 for the game and all DLC. Buy it! Edit: Oh wow, just the costume DLC on its own is 30 bucks total. This is the deal of the century! Gutcruncher fucked around with this message at 23:17 on May 22, 2013 |

Fuzzy guard's just a defensive technique that lets you defend against throws and attacks simultaneously in some situations. Honestly don't worry about that poo poo at first, just learn some combos and have fun! Here's a link to a combo wiki that has lots of stuff for most of the cast (I also happen to have done the entire Jeffry section http://virtuafighter.com/combos/ - just look for the combos that work on everyone for starters (they should be at the top of the list for each move), then learn the more character-specific stuff when you're ready The whole website's full of really good info if you get that into it, check it out: http://virtuafighter.com/ I can also probably answer questions for anybody that's interested, both about the game in general and for a few characters. Jeffry's my main but I've also been playing a decent amount of Taka, Akira, Jacky, Lau, Kage, and I've dabbled with Jean. Taka is the best beginner character (by a mile) if you're cool with playing a fat sumo jerkass! P.S. If you smell a throw coming just mash a launcher, attacks always beat throws in VF and it's a legit strategy to launch somebody tryin to sneak in a throw Trykt fucked around with this message at 04:27 on May 25, 2013 |

And if you don't have a second joystick plugged in, it won't let you do player vs player. This seems pretty fun actually, feels kind of like Samurai Showdown with a fun fatal counter system thrown in and a half assed assist system. It's off to an interesting start - I expect Takuma's KoF2k ending to rank high (sure, he has a team, but that's very much his ending). I also hope Chonrei, Tung and Kim's Real Bout 2 endings get a mention - they hint at something I really want to see in a hypothetical Garou 2, the result of Chonrei's training under 2 influential characters from that series: I kinda like the little detail that in Real Bout Special Chonshu shares Kim's stage and Chonrei shares Tung's, hinting at this possibility even before RB2 came along with those endings. I may hope too much, but it's interesting those are the most consistent endings in a game that for the most part isn't to serious about them. I'm kinda surprised you didn't post the 4th part of that article series: http://4thletter.net/2013/05/the-top-200-fighting-game-endings-part-four/ BTW, you article mentions Belger's first name as Horace... where did you find that?...

Well, few months ago, while me and the HOG arcade owner were going through the list of games on Naomi, we found a game called Jingi Storm. After a bit a googling and asking around, it turned out that the game initially was a +18 fighter with stripping mechanics during location tests. For the longest time I thought that was the only arcade game based on or including pornographic material.

To be fair neither F/SN (F/UC) nor Tsukihime (Melty Blood) are really 'porn games,' they just shoehorned a couple of sex scenes into a 60+ hour game because they wanted sales. To those who live in London, you have probably heard of the passing of CircleMasher and LANDLORD. The HOG will be hosting an event on the 8th Jun as a tribute to the players. The money from the venue entry (£10) will go towards the families and the tourney entry fees will go towards the prize pot. http://www.neoempire.com/?p=10395 On the subject of the passing of these two player, honestly no one expected this to happen and we're all really sad. I saw CircleMasher couple weeks ago and he seemed perfectly fine. The passing of both players is just really sad.

DOA5 Ultimate is getting a f2p version, according to Famitsu - you get Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate and Hayabusa, all the online/offline modes aside from story mode and all the base costumes, with everything else (characters, costumes, story mode) being available as paid DLC. They're talking about making the other characters for free on a rotating per-character basis, too. PS3 only, X360 version is a possibility but not confirmed. Do you think the disc owners will play with the F2P online? I dont see why anyone would buy the dlc if you can grab the game from the used section for -$20 soon
|
# ? Jun 3, 2013 07:56 |

If you're asking whether the f2p version has cross-play with the standard version then yeah it does, and you can import your data/DLC from the standard versions of DOA5/U into the f2p version. Characters are 400 yen each, story mode is 1500 yen, so yeah, just buying the standard game will be much better value.

I could see if you are some weirdo who literally only will ever play with one character and never ever play offline multiplayer that the F2P version would be a good thing. For all normal people though, its just a good demo.

I guess the idea is that any profit is better than no profit, so if someone grabs the f2p version and just buys a couple characters or story mode or whatever then that's money they wouldn't otherwise see from a used sale or what have you. How does story mode even work in DOA5, anyway? It it just cutscene > fight > cutscene like the NRS games or are there different scenarios for each character or something?

It's similar to an NRS, but it's less structured and it's more tedious and long than short and engaging. Short cutscenes feel empty and longer ones feel tedious. and yeah, you'd probably only play through story mode if you want to unlock titles to unlock other things (which in my opinion is loving stupid since any other fighter has all characters unlocked by default).
