Another question for y'all: is it better to beat the Everfall end-game content (and I think move on to NG+ as a result, right?) and then do BBI, or do BBI first?

I don't necessarily mind having to run through the game a second time, but would probably want to do BBI first before I go through the whole thing and kill the Dragon again. I wouldn't mind seeing the ending, but I think I read here that NG+ would reset any BBI progress I make, so does it make more sense to first go on to NG+ and then immediately go on to BBI?

I say finish the Everfall and go to NG+ if its your first time through because the story might make a little more sense (or not it's weird). Plus, if you really need wakestones in your NG+ there's a riftstone in Cassardis that you can use to fight the Ur-Dragon whenever, so you can just murder him in offline mode for 20 of them. Also you get to have the nice sunny world instead of poo-cloud world when you go back to mainland.

Also some level 3 cursed item whatever the gently caress that does.

Do people just not hire mage pawns, or what?

You need to go to bitter black isle and have it purified by Orla. From the starting town at night you go to the docks and talk to her and she will take you there and then you can talk to her there and have her make it a useable item.

I hosed up Fourival's quest somehow. I turned in 4 pieces of evidence (though one was Reynard's writ) in his favor, my pawns said he'd be found innocent, and yet he was found guilty! He deserved it but if looks like I screwed myself out of some awesome items.

And I didn't do Escort Duty, so I'm locked out of the Gold Idol.

Looks like a the items have alternate locations, though. I just want to get my rear end kicked again.

Did you get the witness to testify in his favor from the northern fort as well?

That'll do it then. You need three pieces of evidence AND the witness in order to find Fournival innocent, along with not submitting any evidence that would implicate him or denounce him.

Bakalakadaka

I've gotten Fournival innocent with just the 3 petitions (guy in castle, priest, and his daughter). I think they way the quest works is that each petition/the witness increases the chance of him being innocent, but it's possible for him to be found innocent without getting everything.

It's easy to get the guy as the witness if you just leave a portstone at the castle he's at because you're gonna use it for a few other quests.

Sure. You'll benefit greatly from the Warrior and Sorcerer augments as well though, so its worth doing the four relevant classes.

Well, aside from the characters who were clearly intended to be love interests(Quina, Selene(ugh), Mercedes, Aelinore, Madeleine, Valmiro, Julien) the romance is just "Hey you gave me tons of fish, now I love you."

I guess they added that in as an afterthought to appeal to a certain set of Japanese players.

Also, not a single story-supported male love interest. If you have a female character she's lesbian by default.

I mean, the story throws female love interests at you but if you want a male love interest you have to search for it yourself. Julien...I guess, but it means siding with him in the fight with Mercedes, which is definitely presented as the wrong thing to do.

Actually no, the only way to get Julien's romance is to kill him during that fight and then revive him with a wakestone. He then surrenders and gets sent to the jail in Gran Soren.

I just started playing this game about two days ago, and I've been loving playing as a Magick Archer. I don't know if I should upgrade this Magic Crutch I have, or wait until a new one becomes available from the store. I've been reading a bit online about where various Magick Bows can be found, but none of them really say much about when I can (safely) get to these areas.

Is it generally worth it to upgrade early-game weapons/armor?

Also, is Magick Archer viable for the entire game? I didn't really enjoy playing as a melee character, but I don't know if their stat gains or whatnot make them bad at the end of the game.

I always upgrade all I can, and then only buy new equipment if its BASE stats are better than what I'm wearing's UPGRADED stats. I think you can save money that way.

Also, upgrading equipment increases its resale value, so its not like you are throwing away resources even if you upgrade something you end up selling soon.

Upgrading things to level 2/3 makes them pretty substantially better. There's no need to hunt for materials but if you have it you may as well spend it.

You can use the materials needed to upgrade from your storage too. So just bank all your materials every time you run into someone who can let you do that.

In other news, gently caress Death. I can't even hurt him, he just shows up and kills all of my pawns. None of my attacks do a single bit of damage to him.

I'm not all the way through BBI, but through a good chunk, and yes, it is so far. I do use my daggers a fair bit, but use my magic bow more and as long as I'm using the right elemental attacks (or more often than not, just avoiding the one whatever enemy is resistant to), the bow works just fine.

Your goal is to knock him down, then you can start doing real damage...but I am not at all sure what the best way to knock him down is, I've only been able to do it twice, and once was by firing literally a hundred blast arrows at his face. Currently he's down by about 1 and 3/4 life bars, and who knows how many of my pawns he has taken in that time.

Mystic Archer's Ricochet is absolutely ridiculous in BBI's many, many cramped spaces. Shreds everything near instantly while they're stuck in permanent stunlock. You don't even need to aim, and it hits everyone in the room. Only thing I hate is fighting dragons, since it's finicky/impossible to get your arrows to lock on to the heart.

Anyways, people sure do seem to love hiring healer mage pawns and not so much fighter ones. I'd have thought it would be the opposite, with most people having a support mage main pawn of their own. But my mage gets hired about 10x more than my fighter, which is a bummer because the mage account has around 4 million RC and the fighter one has around 500k, most of which I've gotten myself. My fighter has better gear, too! And is lower level, making that gear more appealing.

For Drakes, I just walk up to their hearts and point blank fire Sixfold/Ninefold. They usually fall over and let me do it some more. For Wyverns, I usually do something similar, or I'll use Immolation/Fireshroud and Hundred Kisses. Sometimes I just use Explosive Rivet spam. The exposion splash is usually pretty generous so that you don't have to be too precise in where they latch on. That also goes for wyrms.

The Adhesion secret augment is great for Wyverns as well since you can just climb on their backs and wail on their hearts and it can do jack poo poo to you. For drakes and wymrs, it's generally quicker as a MA to have a good dagger and just slice up their hearts while staggered.

It really only takes like 1-2 minutes to get everything to prove him innocent. 1 piece is in his house, 1 in the cathedral, 1 in the duke's chamber and if you have a port crystal at the fort you just teleport there, grab the guy you need to escort and teleport back.

You can't give people BBI gear, unfortunately. Just the unpurified stuff. Which is a bummer because I just need one specific pair of boots before I have all the armor in the game that I want, but after dozens of L3 armor rolls, I still haven't gotten it. Meanwhile, that exact item sits in storage on my other account being useless.
