Elliot only seems better in the past two episodes really, which is made extra easy by Junior acting like a colossal jackass. Glad to see Edgar get the boat for blues. Hope it works out for him! That poor greenhorn though. Where did they find that guy?! Also, did they ever mention who replaced Jake Harris on deck? They said they still have five on deck.

Something I never noticed before: close your eyes when Edgar's talking and see if you can distinguish his voice from Sig's.

This earthquake myth sure did take a lot of time to set up. Its always pretty crazy how much set up time some experiments take for how quickly they're able to destroy them. Kind of like the Lego ball.

I was thinking about the earthquake myth and wondering if they actually filmed those bits out of order. Mostly because the to-code building only took a day to build and set up while the concrete one had to wait three weeks for it to be ready. Also because they broke their earthquake machine during the concrete house bit and never mentioned having to fix it.

I hated when they said the flying guillotine wasn't plausible in combat, because after an entire day or whatever of practice, they couldn't hit a moving target on a regular basis. Because it's not like a soldier or fighter trains for years and years to get proficient with their weapons. Jerks.

Wasn't the To Code house test kind of completely unfair because it was not a house but rather a small, compact wood shed? I'd imagine a much larger structure would handle the stress of being shook pretty differently. In other news, Big Brain Theory is growing on me, even though I felt like whoever edited this episode was obsessed with scrubbing the footage back and forth to the tune of generic electronic music.

I found myself wondering what would happen if you were standing in an indoor doorframe without an actual door, like one leading into a hallway? That build definitely didn't address a lot of things that would be different about a full-sized house. And I'm curious to know whether Dyson Airblades fare any better than conventional hand dryers.

I was thinking the same thing about the air blades, but I figured either way it is kind of shooting the water off of you and that it probably would only be marginally cleaner at best. All I know is that I am now completely freaked out about all the bathrooms I have been in with NO SOAP and NO TISSUES.

Capn Beeb posted:What the utter gently caress is this Zombie Preppers poo poo. I don't know, but it sounds possibly less sad than the Doomsday Preppers, unless the people on it are actually seriously afraid of a zombie apocalypse and not just bullshitting, which, well, Discovery in 2013, who knows? ToastyPotato posted:They seemed to put very little effort in the Deadliest Catch myths. The overboard myth was so bad because Discovery has plenty of footage of people getting caught in the bite, since it happens at least once per season. Didn't the proto-season of DC even have someone get thrown overboard on camera? It sure did. For as few major injuries as we see on the featured boats, it is still a stupid dangerous job. The boats we watch are obviously kind of a cut above, even the death trap that is The Wizard. The ones we don't see, I would not be surprised if there's a communal meth pipe/giant ziplock of oxy in the changing room just off deck.

So tomorrow some kind of Monster Week is starting. Sounds like it starts Monday with a River Monsters kickoff (preview closeups make it look like a stingray but it could just be editing), then something about Loch Ness, then some sort of sequel to that stupid loving "Mermaids" mockumentary that nobody liked. loving hell Animal Planet.

Elliot is actually coming off as a better person then Junior this year. When his Dad lost the pot over the side he seemed pretty genuine that a $1500 loss meant nothing over the poo poo his dad put up with him when he was younger.

Well he did kind of go off at first, talking about how much it costs and that it was all new, etc. But then he calmed himself down and reasoned that it didn't matter in the grand scheme, especially after what his father has done for him. It was interesting to see that change though. We haven't seen too many lost pots in the show, and when they do happen most of the captains don't care too much, it was nice seeing Elliot reach that level.

Jake is taking a huge risk leaving the boat for something that is not a sure thing. Northwesterners make a nice amount of money per season.
