Punch! Punch! Punch!

Going along with the James Bond questions: In terms of plot continuity, do I need to see Quantum of Solace before watching Skyfall? I've seen Casino Royale but avoided Quantum due to lackluster reviews.

Skyfall is a stand alone. There is really no need to watch Quantum.

I would say it's not worth watching, since you'll immediately forget everything about it once it's over. I can't remember a single line of dialogue, scene, or non-Bond character from the film. I think there was a burning building at some point and some kind of South American general, or something.

QOS is sitting in my stack of unwatched DVDs, so I can't comment on that one, but I'm surprised you'd find Octopussy boring. I think Octopussy has a lot of problems, but boring isn't the word I'd use to describe it. If anything it is almost too over the top.

I just do not remember anything about it. I have seen it a couple of times and all I really remember is Roger Moore dressed as a clown. Also the racism in regards to the British and Indians.

I don't like the Roger Moore era Bond. Early Connery stuff good, Dalton stuff good, Goldeneye which has aged is fine, and then Craig's era (watch QoS anyway). It's cool the best era is the current era. Watch it if you want but I don't think you'd miss much skipping Moore, imo. Well, maybe A View to a Kill for Grace Jones and Walken.

The racism is the main problem I felt as well. Regardless, it's still more entertaining than some of Moore's other films, such as Live or Let Die for example.

Watch Casino Royale, then watch Quantum of Solace immediately afterwards. Quantum picks up seconds after Casino Royale and works a lot better when watched like that.

In fact, see if you can mentally shift the break between the two movies, so that Casino Royale ends when Bond quits with Vesper.

If you particularly enjoyed Casino Royale then Quantum of Solace might be worth watching as it's a direct follow up. Skyfall is a much better film though, and standalone in plot (it references a lot of previous Bond stuff but nothing QoS specific).

Roger Moore does have one Bond film that's more in line with Connery, Dalton and Brosnan though and it's definitely one of my favourites: For Your Eyes Only.

Its got a pretty decent storyline and antagonist that's quite down to earth after the madness of Moonraker. As a bonus it has a few emotional punches and my favourite Moore moment that the actor himself hates.

I actually disagree with this because if anything Casino Royale will make QoS seem even worse because it's as awesome as QoS is dull and lovely. I'm not huge into bond and haven't seen enough bond films but I loved Casino Royale and was psyched for QoS and rarely have I been more let down by a film.

Yeah I was really let down by Quantum of Solace as well, watching it in theatres. But it does work better when viewed soon after or as a double feature with Casino. When I rewatched both of them the night before I went to see Skyfall I ended up liking QoS a bit more (from "bad" to "ok").

I hope this is the right thread. I'm looking for a gbtl themed movie. I remember two scenes. One was a cheerleader singing a beatles song that was a lesbian love song to another cheerleader, but the singer wasn't out of the closet. The beatles song was supposed to be upbeat and fast, but for the scene it was a slower tempo. I wish I remembered the song but I know so many beatles songs it could be any of them. I think the singer might've been hispanic?
The other seen was a young man, maybe teen, who was in a recruiter's office and there was a sort of dance scene, maybe also with a beatles song or some other song. Basically he went either from plain clothes or a football outfit to wearing army clothes. There was choreography with other people during this scene as well.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It's been bugging me for ages :( I can't remember how it turned out.

QoS is basically just a really long epilogue to Casino Royale, which itself had its own pacing problems. QoS just largely stalls as a film though, it's quite an impressive achievement, it's also totally unneeded.

I'll spoil it just to save the guy who's only started watching the bond films.

Throughout most of the film Bond is stalked/stalking a man named Emil Locque. Locque is the right hand man of the main villain and a lot of the action/deaths in the film come because of his hand. Locque brutally drives over one of the Bond girls on a beach right in front of Bond and kills her. This is a lot darker than the Moore movies are known for and Bond basically wants revenge for the rest of the movie.

It's the revenge part I love so much. Locque is driving recklessly up a winding cliff road and Bond is chasing on foot up some stairs. He manages to head Locque off near the top and shoots at his car hitting Locque's shoulder. The car swerves across the road doing several spins before resting on the edge of the cliff precariously above the water far below.

Bond walks over to the car cooly and calmly to see Locque bloodied, but alive, in the drivers seat and looking down the driver's side window at the steep drop. He looks up at Bond who tosses him a pendant. The pendant was one Locque left at the scene of the murder. Then Bond kicks the car over the edge of the cliff. Locque's screams as his car drops down are pretty much the only lines from the actor the whole film. He has no dialogue at all.

(I think the quip afterwards is totally superfluous but it's Bond and he has to quip after his kills to stop developing PTSD)

It's great because it's the only time Moore is as cold and brutal as someone like Craig or Connery. It's really out of place in his films because they are so wacky British hijinx. Moore really wanted it cut and didn't want to do it.

I know, spoiling a 31 year old film.

It was precisely the writer's strike: Daniel Craig describes making the movie as "hosed."
