That stuff was the worst.

Don't get me wrong, I love my life now, but the 90s had that feeling of unlimited potential. Now the economy has collapsed and nearly everybody is worse off than they were in the 90s, and that optimistic outlook is gone. I know this is from the first page but I really have to say I got the same feeling. Looking at all the music videos, campy poo poo linked etc, the feeling that gets me is really one of optimism and attitude. The collapsed economy is really putting a drag on everything. drat this thread is making memories flood back.

I was at Goodwill the other day, and I saw this thing there. Sorry about the absurdly tiny picture, but it's the only one I could find. It's an N64 branded cassette player that has an AM/FM radio, built in earbuds, and has something to do with sports. I can't say I've ever associated built in earbuds with the 90's before, but now that I've seen this it seems like such a perfect match. Wanamingo has a new favorite as of 02:17 on Jun 10, 2013 |

The only way I can make sense of this is to say that Sony had a Sports Walkman that I think was yellow and they were developing the CD drive for what would have been Nintendo's next console after the Super Nintendo Chalmers but instead decided to make the Playstation.

Those yellow walkmans/discmans were "sports" because they were supposed to be harder to break than the regular non-yellow ones. But they were often just yellow.

That After Shock post reminded me of another 90s alcoholic beverage: Zima https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_uxyXekDjo Zima was the liquor industry's attempt to cash in on the clear beverage craze of the 90s. It was an alcopop that debuted nationally in 1994 with a slick marketing campaign ("zomething different") and found some success in it's first year, however once everyone actually tried it and found that it tasted like a funny tasting flat 7up sales dropped off very quickly. Like most other alcoholic sugar water concoctions it mostly ended up being popular with early teens and college girls. It's popularity amongst teenagers was helped by the false rumors back then that "Zima doesn't make you smell like alcohol" or "Zima doesn't show up on breathalyzers". I don't ever remember hearing about or seeing Zima past the mid-90s, but apparently it was produced until 2008. I have to give them credit, the advertising worked. After the commercials aired, everyone in my Jr. high class was saying "zomething" and "ztop" and became obsessed with getting a bottle of Zima. Jehde posted:Someone else earlier in the thread had success on rediscovering an old piece of 90s software, so I figure I might as well try and see if anyone remembers this program that's been bugging my nostalgia lately. I don't remember much of it, but it was a sort of graphical encyclopedia that focused on space exploration. I remember the main menu being a sort of library and you could go to the blackboard or something and cycle through significant dates in space exploration. One such article that's burned into my memory was about the cold war, and featured some EGA art of a multiple rocket launcher truck in a snowy forest, with some ominous Sound Blaster music to complete it. If anyone was interested in my search, I finally managed to find it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS6AQ52Lfa0 Space Adventure, from the Knowledge Adventure series of software. Although the version I had was the CD-ROM version, not the Packard Bell version.

Does anyone remember this Lego Technic line called "Slizers" (or, in America, "Throwbots")? They were kind of like a precursor to the more popular and longer-lasting Bionicle sets, except they had these disc-launcher arms attachments. I thought they were great.

i haven't seen this in the thread yet, if it's been mentioned then I'm sorry. I loved... The Amazing Live Seamonkeys! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzs_8JDfsdo It was a Saturday morning show from around 1992 starring Howie Mandel and Sean Whalen. The premise is that a Professor embiggens and gives life to man sized Sea Monkeys (like the shrimp toys from the 60's.) It was sooo very 90's, I was heartbroken when it was gone. Beakman's World, Doctor Who re-runs, and this were my early 90's childhood.
