I'm at the part where Shirou, Rin, and Saber are escaping Illyasviel's castle, and they end up in some ruins (yes, I know what happens next). However, at one specific moment in the dialog between Rin and Shirou voice files stop playing. Music and sound effects work fine, but for some reason voices won't. Is this a known bug or just some random glitch that I'm stuck with?
Everything is normal. Remember, the voices come from the more "work safe" PS2 version of the game.

Ahhhh. Basically, censorship. So I'm guessing that the voices come back when the lesbian orgy/threesome segment is done?

I'm bewildered at how pointless that is. The voices aren't anywhere near to being the more censor-worthy part of that segment.

Not quite sure what you mean by this. The voice patch uses files from the PS2 version because the original PC version has no voice acting, so of course scenes not in the PS2 version aren't going to have any voice acting.

So this scene is there in the PC version, but not in the PS2 version, but the VA is entirely from the PS2 version, so the VA for this scene literally doesn't exist. I thought it was censored out before. Thanks for the clarification.

Honestly this is a big part of their charm to me, since without the comedy scenes to give you a breather from time to time I think some of their storylines would be too relentlessly depressing/anger-inducing.

Playing the patched Fate/Stay, it conditions you to expect gently caress-scenes the instant the voice acting drops. Sometimes he's alone in a completely unsexy situation with no ladies around and it drops out from a bug and you think "oh is it becoming that type of game now?"

Finished Chaos;Head. Flawed but enjoyable. The ending was pretty much meh. I generally like some sort of epilogue. Not knowing how the other characters made it out sucked. And Yua getting her sword had pretty much no relevance on the plot at all or heck Ayase or his sister.

Though, sometimes there's lines that are just randomly not voiced. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but sometimes a line just goes unvoiced, or doesn't load properly. I think in UBW on one of Archer's lines a little warning pops up saying it couldn't load the voice for that line.

But yeah, as a general rule, if the voice acting stops you're coming up on an H-scene.

Also, that Nasu quote was really interesting. He certainly has a point about his own work. He's always stuck me as someone who was pretty self-conscious about his writing, like mentioning that he's extremely long-winded. That particular relation he talks about does seem to be a pretty common theme with him, but if there's one relation in Fate that he really nailed, it was Rin and Archer, actually. They're pretty equal partners, even though Archer is obviously leagues stronger if they were to ever actually get in a fight. Neither really gets pushed around by the other, but they have a good enough rapport to work well together if Archer didn't have such a massive chip on his shoulder.

It might count as cheating since there was never any romantic tension between them, but I'd still say it's a good model, at least. Now I'm really interesting in reading Mahou when it gets translated, just to see what Aoko's relationship with her two housemates is like.

Exactly. The whole "7 black knights will come together to defeat Glajioul" thing never actually happens, so all that buildup was pointless.

E: unrelated to above statement, but is there any word on the PC port of Robotics;Notes?

I started reading Clannad, I'm a few in-game days in. I seem to encounter new female characters with every choice, to the point where I can't tell them apart. The artstyle isn't helping matters, though it isn't quite as off-putting as I initially feared. Just how many routes does this thing have?

So far, the highlights have been the Sunohara/Tomoyo scenes. Key is pretty good at comedy when they try (like in Little Busters).

Stall_19

You're going to want to use a walkthrough with Clannad because way they set have their routes set up is pretty stupid. Like you need to spend some time with Nagisa if you don't want to run into a bad end in Tomoyo's route and don't do Tomoyo's route before Misae's.

Well, poo poo. So it's like Little Busters in that regard. I'm basically heading towards Tomoyo's route right now, so I should probably restart.

EDIT: This is especially annoying because Tomoyo seems to be the most fun character in the VN. Oh, well. I guess it's okay to save her route for last, then.

Well you don't have to do Tomoyo's last. Just be sure to complete Misae's route before Tomoyo's because you get Misae's story is completed in Tomoyo's route. And yeah that is pretty stupid. Generally Nagisa's route is probably the best one to save for last for a smoother transition into After Story although I actually did her's first in my play-through.

Nate RFB

I would generally recommend:

-Fuuko very early, at least before Nagisa or the Teacher.
-Misae before Tomoyo.
-Nagisa dead last.
-Book marking this: http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=1191340&postcount=56

I recommend doing Nagsia last so that you flow thematically a bit more smoothly into After Story; also, a variety of choices made in Nagisa's route will carry over into After Story.

Its not so much that she has to be done last as it is there's some weird design choices going on. Your reward for finishing a route is you get an orb when you do so, and you need to collect them all to eventually get the true ending. For whatever reason, finishing Misae's route doesn't give you her orb, but it unlocks an extra scene during Tomoyo's route in which you do. Besides that, finishing Tomoyo's route requires you to get a few Nagisa scenes on the same playthrough.

Stall_19

Ugh, remembering even more of the route design in Clannad. In Misae's route you have to give a particular set of answers without knowing that 1. choices are important and 2. Not even having a hint as to what the correct answers even are.

The goddamn Fate/Stay Night gently caress scenes. They are so long that it takes a while just to skip them.

More importantly, I think I noticed something that might be a discrepancy between this and Zero if I'm remembering correctly.

In Stay Night, Saber doesn't know who Gilgamesh is until the part where he nearly kills her and Shirou. But in Zero, she has a conference with him and Iskandar where they discuss their motives. Did he not tell her who she was then?

Blhue

No, she doesn't ever realize his identity in Zero. Zero Rider does, but she doesn't.

Also there's going to be some discrepancies between Zero and f/sn in general because Zero came out after despite taking place before.

Most of them aren't outright plotholes so much as implausibilities (in particular, Saber retroactively becomes kind of stupid). Some of them get explanations in databooks and such. The biggest stretch is the line about Kiritsugu leaving his wife and daughter behind in the castle, when Irisviel was actually already dead. It's possible the translation removed some ambiguity ("He left his wife behind and he left his daughter behind in the castle"). Alternatively, Ilya still has fragments of the consciousness of past Einzbern homunculi, including Irisviel, inside her, so in a sense Irisviel was left behind in the castle.

In case you were wondering, Saber doesn't recognize Ilya (at least at first) because she assumes Irisviel's daughter would actually look 18, and Irisviel never mentioned Ilya's name to Saber.

Having said that, there are also some things in F/SN that make more sense after Zero. For example:

Fate Stay Night posted:

"Your hair is beautiful. Seeing it get dirtied in front of me is somewhat painful."
That must have been from the bottom of her heart.
Saber's voice is the same as always. It doesn't sound like she's thinking about Ilya.

I think Saber is thinking about Irisviel here.

So I finished Higurashi no Naku Koro ni today and I'm starting Kai and I ran into a little problem. I can't seem to find a patch that will replace the backgrounds with the PS2 ones for the fifth arc. I looked for bg replacement patches online and in Nate's archive but none of them work. Sprites work just fine. It's not a huge deal, but I just prefer it aesthetically.

I love knowing just enough about physics to recognize the ideas and concepts they talk about, but not enough to actually understand how badly they get mangled (this goes for nearly anything that uses technobabble.)

Anyway, so I finished Steins;Gate. It's really good (and much, much better then Chaos;Head, I'm impressed), but honestly, the main thing I took away from it was just how good a job White Fox did on the adaptation.

It might just be because I watched it first, but I actually think I prefer the anime. I think it managed to streamline a lot without really losing anything, and the direction, as well as any changes or additions they made, were all top notch. I know adaptation is a different beast then making a new thing, but I'm really looking forward to the Steins;Gate movie now.

Wasn't that chaos head though? I don't remember that in steins;gate.

I always feel an inferiority complex kicking in when someone else can't enjoy a movie because they're so smart. Like, not even a professor, just a TA complains about Independence Day's physics for twenty minutes straight "if each spaceship was a quarter the mass of the moon they wouldn't need a goddamn laser to blow up the white house just float there and the gravitational forces would tear it apart!" and my chemical engineering degree hasn't ruined any movies to that extent for me yet.

That one works, thanks. I must have grabbed the wrong patch on accident.

By the way Cake Attack, I wouldn't bother with Robotics;Notes. It's not terrible but it's just average compared to Steins;Gate. Not helped is that it doesn't explain a few things that were apparently touched upon in the VN.
