coyo7e posted:The Fresh Meat Guide to Survival in Trumbull Valley Nice work. EDIT: One thing, every character gets a parry move at level 3 melee. If you dodge a zombie in front of you your character will perform a lean back dodge and if you hit x as the animation ends they'll perform an uppercut swing that's a guaranteed knockdown. And I just figured this out last night. Easy way to kill ferals is to dodge their big leap attack and they'll fall flat on their face, then you can just run up and execute them. girth brooks part 2 fucked around with this message at 20:56 on Jun 12, 2013 |

My special zombie murder machines are always characters with the Reflexes skill. One of their custom Y attacks is the Sweep. I've knocked over every enemy in the game with it except for the big bastards (95% of the time on the first try too; plus it hits in a 180 degree arc) and it is a super easy and stamina light way to murder groups of dudes. Sweeping Feral zombies is my favorite gently caress you to them. One of their defensive unlocks is even a leapfrog dodge (with LB+B) that can get you out of trouble like the usual roll with the added bonus of leaving your target down for an instant kill. Just going to say again; never take Rage. It is a trap. Save your special technique for when you have other skills at 7 because they are all significantly better than the lovely Stamina boost when you kill an enemy.

I guess its a simple thing when you think about it but has any zombie game ever done what this game has done with death being so meaningful? The combination of permadeath and having multiple playable characters is really perfect. Its the missing piece in so many zombie games(every one of them until now actually), I doubt I'll ever be able to go back and play another one. Especially Dead Island, this game really makes those look like poo poo especially when you compare the price tag. Riptide is probably my dumbest, most regretted purchase this year. But the point is I'm actually SCARED again! Marcus and Maya have both had several brushes with death, one time Maya was picked up by the neck and bitten by a fatso zombie, leaving her with just a sliver of health. I was just able to leap through a nearby window as the fatty tried to get in the deathblow and I sprinted to my car as fast as I could. So tense.

The most intense thing I've encountered so far happened to me this afternoon. I was looting the Police Station in Marshall so I could make it an outpost when a Horde starting passing by downstairs. The music got so intense (only time I've heard music in game I think.) The horde passed but I actually was nervous for once. One or two stray zombies heard me searching and jumped me upstairs.

So, uh, don't run over barbeque grills. I drove my shiny new truck around an infestation that also had two hordes near it. This would have been fine as long as I didn't blow up my truck instantly. Still got away since I was using Sam, luckily. I hope someone saw Sam running back to base while chowing down on all those bags of chips.

You need the library for Box Bombs, which are actually a combination of something noisy to attract zombies, and then explosives to blow them up. Mines are really uncommon but they do tremendous amounts of damage to zombies. If a horde walks by them if it doesn't kill all the zombies it'll at least blow them 5/6 feet away and put them off their feet. If you have edged weapons as your specialization you can get an amazing custom move to use: you slice of both legs of a zombie attacking you. It's really cheap in stamina too. Additionally if you take heavy specialization you can do spin, where you twirl in a circle and knock every zombie (including specials except for the Big 'Un) down.

Don't park next to propane tanks either. Especially if you're using a firearm. I once tagged a propane tank with a stray shot from several blocks away. It was a long walk back home. I've been avoiding cars and experimenting with all the stuff I didn't touch now that I'm in the post game. The Flame Fougasse is a horde killer without the guess work of the Petrol Bomb. Just set it down, taunt a horde, then watch the fire works. They don't seem to de-spawn (or at least not for a longtime) so you can also use them to beef up your base defenses.

Anyone know if there are any problem in copying the saved game file to a jump drive for later use? I have a great game going right now and would rather save it for after the patch, and start another game now and screw around for a bit.

I don't know, man. There are legit complaints to be made about the game, but I do not believe that is one of them. And I say that as someone who has dozens of different characters in Skyrim and New Vegas.

My base has been a lot more harmonious. We brought in an Army medic who was a short-tempered shithead who kept arguing with people and wasting ammo resources with reckless shooting...until Ed got better, and then they started dating and he's been a good influence on her, her mood is 'Charitable' now and I've gotten several morale-boosting events with her due to her newfound enthusiasm for the group. Everyone else is getting along pretty nicely too. It's actually going pretty great, except I just got my first 'too many infestations' and so now people have started going missing left and right. I managed to keep it down for a long time, a lot longer than my last playthrough. The trick to delaying it is to aggressively seek out and kill every horde you see. Hordes are one of the ways infestations spread, and the fewer hordes wandering around the slower infestations will pop up. e: Also, I just learned that the survivors at the Grange can be perma-killed while you're doing story missions for them. I was helping them build defenses and a Big Bastard came in and grabbed one of their supply runners and chomped his head clean off. Wasn't scripted, either, that didn't happen last time I played. Now there's one less guy in their group and I feel like an rear end in a top hat. Mister Bates fucked around with this message at 02:01 on Jun 13, 2013 |

Loving the game so far, even though I had to abandon my first playthrough due to the infestations bug. My second attempt seems to be going much better, moved down to Snyder and got an outpost network covering west Marshall in safe zones with little issue (except losing Maya to a feral and big un double team ). Quick question though: Is anyone else having their daily consumption of building materials or ammo be stupidly high, or increasing massively for the tiniest of reasons? When I left it yesterday it was -15, with 8 outposts using extended traps I didn't think that figure was too bad. Went on earlier and the outposts had reset and my consumption was -5...I thought great, I'll leave my outposts alone and use the extra mats to upgrade my bunkhouse - which caused it to my daily usage to rocket straight to -30! It's not really an issue right now as Marshall is abundant in building materials but I'm more concerned about ammo, I barely find any and yet apparently I'm using 11 cases per day even though hordes never reach my base! Edit: the Wilkersons just radioed to sell me a M60E4 time to clear out east Marshall like Rambo! Orlando Furioso fucked around with this message at 02:37 on Jun 13, 2013 |

How does this "aim assist" I've heard about work? Because I find the shooting controls to be kind of frustrating. I really need to be getting headshots more readily.

The "aim assist" is what makes it impossible to do fine control while firing a loving gun! I believe that if you do things more "Red Dead" style when you use your gun (popping the target button when you're pointing toward an enemy) it will automatically focus on their... Chest. Wish I could turn the aim assist off entirely, honestly it makes it difficult to do fine aim adjustments. Well the M60 is what I discovered it with, so they do have it, but it's basically point blank. If the zombie is a second out of melee range, you can headshot with a shotty or assault weapon.

Trust with survivors in your base is pretty much the easiest thing to earn, though. Literally everything you do that isn't plowing over friendlies with a truck or getting killed raises trust by a significant amount. Also fun tip to get more guns: I have absolutely no idea what the hell the game is doing in so far as restocking items, but the gun shop in Marshall has ALWAYS had a "Diplomat" revolver and a M1 Garand every time I've went there, the trick is to not take everything out of it. If you dig through a place to the point that it gets a little black crossmark through it I think it might be empty for good, but if you leave stuff in the dressers it will repop all the non resource cache items. My whole group is rolling with M1 Garands now and I have to say it's a hell of a gun. I swear I popped a Big'Un head in two shots with that thing once.
