Not really relevant to most people here, but what just happened with EU-Icewatch is pretty hilarious (and terrible). A couple of hours back we got a server message saying that the servers were coming down in 45 minutes for a hotfix. Then they dropped the bomb and said "PS this server is being shut down during this downtime and everyone will have to move to one of the 2 new servers we're opening" and that was it, that was the entire notice period that they're shutting down the largest EU server. To make it even worse, this is at about 1am server time. The rage on the official forums is pretty amazing, and I guess will get even better tomorrow when loads of people log in to find their server essentially shut down! http://forums.riftgame.com/general-...pm-tonight.html It doesn't really affect me all that much so I'm not bothered by it, but it's going to be interesting to see the fallout from this, it's definitely one of the most bizarre things I've seen happen in a big MMO.

You will automatically be prompted to move with your guild. They may do the trial thing on NA servers too, it would be a way of reducing the problems for the max level people while keeping everything in the same clusters for cross-shard goodies. Server names are fairly meaningless in Rift, and I think we saw this evening the problems with just jacking up the population caps.

Literally thousands of people were doing this, people put up their streams and went to bed and then woke up only to find they were still in the queue. I'm not able to get back into the game until this weekend but sure am glad I dodged the queue stuff this time around

Tried this game this afternoon and got to level 10, had a lot of fun. Requesting a guild invite for Nog. Now if only this 3 hour queue would finish already. edit: Been stuck at a 2 hour queue for the past 1.5 hours.

And here I thought that the queues would calm down today as compared to yesterday. Holy poo poo I was wrong. Every server has queues over 300 right now, which is about a 2 hour wait minimum! Most are a good deal higher. I knew I shouldn't have logged out to take a shower. Shoulda just found some corner and autoran into a wall like everyone used to.

I don't really mind that I have to transfer off (my original server was an RP-PVP server that got turned into a trial shard way back when--which has now disappeared completely--and I was punted off to Icewatch myself, and was about to transfer away due to queues even before f2p started), but I can understand why people who've been there since the beginning are raging in that thread about being forced off. Especially since a ton of them are most likely going to ALSO be forced to change the name of their characters, too, when they transfer to another server ... which is going to cause yet another shitstorm.  If you are stuck in the queue, quit the game, log back in, and it'll refresh your position.This has worked twice for me, so if this gets you kicked, I'm not liable.

I did this and when it was my turn up it put me back into queue again. That or we have a queue to log in to see the shards and another queue to get on the shard.
