Two things. First, it looks like there's a smoothing filter on. You don't want that with a pixelly game; you want to turn off all that fancy stuff before you capture video/screenshots. It looks better without the emulator filters. You also want to avoid smoothing/resampling if you're resizing the screenshots, as well.

Second, it's best to use LPix.org for your SSLPs, since that's what it was made for, and all. (thanks baldurk!)

I checked the master list and the only thread for this game is abandoned and in the archives, I assume that makes it fair game.

Welcome to the Gotcha Borg World! Let's Play Gotcha Force

Near the end of 2003 Capcom released Gotcha Force, an arena shooter exclusively for the Nintendo Gamecube. Based around squads of toy-sized robots fighting, the game boasts of having 200 characters to collect and battle with. The large number of borg combinations lends the game a lot of replay value, and I'd like to show you as much of it as I can.

The story:
After the destruction of his home world Mega Borg by the evil Death Force, the Gotcha Borg G-Red comes to Earth and teams up with a young boy named Kou in order to prevent the planet from falling into their hands.

How this goes:
I'll be taking tribe suggestions in thread, in order to show off what the people want to see. Most tribes are varied enough to allow for repeat selection, but I'll mix in some related borgs to keep things from getting stale if nessecary.

Tribe List:
Ninja - Fast attackers, work best at mid to close range
Gun - Long distance specialists, weak in melee
Knight - Close range powerhouses, often carry shields to block attacks
Girl - Well balanced borgs, comfortable in melee or at range
Machine - The most varied tribe, includes robots and transformers
Dragon - Powerful but slow, with high damage projectiles and beams
Musha (Includes Demon) - Sacrifices Knight borg defense for extra offensive ability
Knuckle - Work best in melee range, often have special tricks to get there safely
Wizard (Includes Nurse and Idol) - Have special abilities either to help allies or hinder opponents
Hero (Includes Bug) - Small but varied tribe, mostly focused on changing states
Wing (Includes Demon) - Capable of flight, giving them an advantage over ground bound borgs
Angel - Combines Wing borg flight with Wizard borg abilities
Tank - Ground based vehicles, focused on heavy damage at range
Air - Aerial vehicles, focused on hit and run tactics
Fortress - Floating armaments, heavily armed and armored

The game looks like it's designed for a 4:3 display, but the videos are in 16:9. I can understand the desire to fill the screen, but I really think you should pillarbox to 4:3 to match what the game displays.

What people might have been referring to was keeping it at a 720 resolution. There are 4:3 aspect ratios with 720 resolutions, such as 960x720. If anything you want to keep the aspect ratio correct and maybe resize it from that ratio.

This. You'll want to render the video at 720p, yes, but keep your footage at a 4:3 resolution. What do you use for video rendering and editing?

For my Jazz Jackrabbit LP, I resize my raw recording footage by 4 times normal size, to go from 320x200 to 1280x800. There, in Sony Vegas, the video is resized to fit in a 16:9 aspect ratio for youtube: 1152x720, with slight pillarboxing on the sides to fill it out and keep the pixels at a 1:1 ratio, giving my final project resolution of 720p.

What I recommend you do is resize your 640x480 video to 2x, giving you 1280x960. Then resize it to 960x720 in your video rendering software, and pillarbox it to 720p. You could export your video as 1280x960 or 960x720 but I have no idea what YouTube will do with video that's not 720p or 1080p or bigger.

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.
Both 1280x960 and 960x720 work just fine on Youtube. Do not add unnecessary black bars, do not resize more often than necessary, try to always resize to even integer multiples of your source resolution.

I already know I need to fix my mic issues and that will be done before the second episode is recorded, and I should probably trim out everything before "Sony Computer Entertainment Presents", but aside from that what else would you all say?

I massively preferred Episode 2, without compression. If you don't use compression, you should be good to fly for subsequent episodes. Again, it'll push up your file size a little, but the quality DOES translate onto Youtube.

Edit: I also noticed a fair amount of pausing. I would suggest doing the live track like I'm guessing you're doing, but listening to it over and repeating anything you said that didn't come out quite the way you liked (so if you paused or inflected weirdly, you can fix it up in post.)

It was audio compression on the voice track to avoid clipping, but if straight amplifying works I'll use it. I'm actually doing post-commentary, I didn't want to be constantly yammering over the game. Anyway, thread's up: Welcome to the Gotcha Borg World! Let's play Gotcha Force
