I still have a couple of mine sitting behind a row of books, with some other stuff I have no space for on my shelves.

I can't believe after reading about MD 20/20 in this very thread, I went out and bought a bottle yesterday because it was cheap and I wanted to get drunk. I completely forgot that people were talking about it here... lesson learned, I guess? It tastes like if someone put toilet bowl cleaner in a batch of bottom-rung, cheap grape wine. I bought "Kiwi Citrus" and it tasted like neither kiwi, nor citrus, and I'm sure every "flavor" is exactly the same. I wound up just putting a bunch of lime juice in with each glass and it at least made it palatable.

In the early 90's the absolute coolest legal substance an 11-year-old could obtain (at least in my area) was a can of Jolt Cola. If you had Jolt, you were the poo poo. Then the rumor was they discontinued it because some kid drank 3 and his heart exploded.

I had no idea it was in production that recently. I thought the company went belly-up in the mid-90's. Of course, there was only one place in my small Wisconsin town that sold it and then it was gone one day so I'm sure the rumors in my area formed from that.

There are still some Surge fanatics out there. Look up the "Surge Movement" on facebook. They bought a billboard outside of Coke headquarters begging them to bring back Surge. They also came across a box of Surge fountain syrup concentrate from 2000, and have been selling in 2oz bottles. I've never been a huge fan of Mountain Dew and all its clones, but I do remember Surge having a pretty distinct taste.

I have to disagree with you. I've found Jolt here in Europe - probably in Sweden, and while Surge didn't really live well in the US, Urge is very popular here in Norway. I've been more addicted to Urge than I've ever been to anything else (maybe except for gum, spending 20 bucks a day on gum for years, is really loving with your economy). These days I've hosed my teeth bad, so I just drink Fanta Zero, but I still remember the happy days of 3-4 litres of Urge each day. Jolt on the other hand, while good, it's not as good as Urge. But then again, it's a hell of a lot better than the energy drink version of Urge, Urge Intense. It's more or less 100% syrup, with a bit of carbonated water and caffeine in it. If you mix it with booze, you get drunk as gently caress in a very short time and then sick as gently caress the next day. It's the sweetest thing I've ever become drunk on, and the worst tasting too. Urge / Surge also had some great commercials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZntK1UcPK3o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbspMX12K5Q Datasmurf has a new favorite as of 15:43 on Jun 16, 2013 |

I grew up in VT, so I got CTV, CBC, and French CBC. I remember when I was in high school, CBC would have re-runs of classic Simpsons (of course, back then, ALL Simpsons was classic,) at, like 5:00, and a local channel had them on at 5:30, and then I think CTV had them on at 6. Before DVDs, that's the best we could manage!

Fun Fact: Although Jolt Cola did not hospitalize a kid the energy drink Spike Shooter did. I heard my cousins talking about it and I thought it was just a rebirth of the old Jolt urban legend that I'm sure follows whatever energy drink is the "most extreme" among the youths these days. Much to my surprise it's actually true. Redline has also hospitalized people, so I guess we are now in the future where the playground legends of the past are a reality.

Mind you this is going off 2 hours sleep from the previous day, but the poo poo hit so hard the entire day was a blur. Fast forward to 1am, Im wide awake. Jittery, sweaty and mind all over the place, I got scared. Bright idea was to drink beer to counteract the caffeine. 12 beers later I was wide awake and drunk at the same time.
