Now that you are stuck checking for updates as they come, you see the action as stiff and slow. It will be fine when you read this chapter in one go months later.

Pink insulation foam is simply High Density Polystyrene, aka really dense styrofoam. It's completely harmless, unless you're a dummy and sand it without wearing a filter mask. Hetty used fiberglass insulation, which is a completely different material.

Hetty kind of reminds me of a diabolical version of Lettie Hatter from Howl's Moving Castle, and I keep reading her lines in Lettie's voice. "Reynardine, do you really want to spend the rest of your life in that dorm room?"

I just want to say that I did a marathon through this series the other day and it's utterly fantastic! I have no idea how it's flown under the radar, especially with someone like Gaiman (one of my favorite authors) endorsing it. I've read most of this thread as well and the insights some of you have posted have convinced me to re-read the whole thing again, this time paying attention to the smaller details.

With Hetty's apparent penchant for mischief, I'm slightly worried that the chapter title page has a bottle of something toxic. While scrolling through the archive chapters, I also noticed the icon for this chapter appears to be a packet of needles. I hope Reynardine doesn't end up needing sewing by the end of this chapter...

Yeaaaah, you're actually going to end up reading the entire archive several more times. I can't remember how many times I've read the entire thing, and I still find a little bit more every time. What's so strange is that it just... happens. You never really plan on rereading it, but you'll be several chapters past a page someone linked and GODDAMNIT.

I do find her comment in yesterday's third panel pretty hilarious.

So is Hetty going to poison someone with Mercury? Is that why this chapter is called Quicksilver?

So, I guess this means Hetty is a spirit/creature/bodysnatcher who possessed a toy owned by someone as well. Interesting.

Well, Eglamore was pretty casual about rattling off the consequences of confiscating Reynard vis a vie the contract of ownership, so I guess it's fairly common knowledge and comes up a lot at the Court.

Air is lava! posted:I do really like this comic. That's why I read the whole thing a few weeks ago. I'm actually really digging this chapter's atmosphere. Hetty's a hard turn out into left field that pretty much instantly changes the tone, but even despite her the pacing and the subdued, desaturated backgrounds create a really effective feeling of listlessness. Renard's been practically oozing ennui ever since this chapter started, and even while Hetty's creepy adorable evil jams itself into the foreground and demands your attention everything behind her maintains this vague sense of existential despair that perfectly captures both Renard's reaction to her and his overall mood. It's a slow burn and it'll probably read better once you can get it all in one shot instead of having it slowly doled out three pages a week, but if it feels stiff and unrewarding I think that's very much intentional.
