I know they have been around for nearly as long as Facebook has existed but what's the deal with putting these stupid "quotes" on photoshops just to put on a facebook wall so it can be blindly shared/liked/whatever'd? In fact what's the point in it, considering it is less effort to just copy/paste the words onto a status update and let people share it that way. Of course, I'm sure it's more "eye catching" or whatever to photoshop something or even print said quote onto a sheet of paper, take a picture of it, then post it (or, even better, type it in a word doc, take a picture of the screen, then post it!) but with how much these people are embracing slacktivism I'm surprised they are even wasting time photoshoping/taking pictures of crap. Or maybe I'm over thinking it and I should get back to my socio-communistic ways like a good Brit!

(RIP pages are tacky) I'm a member of one "in memory of" family member page for my uncle who passed away in his 40's. But that page is mainly to post pictures or things that remind us all of him - like he had a big thing for protecting turtles. But those "RIP WE LOVE YOU" attention grabbing pages just seem like a sideshow of "let's see who can be more grief stricken."

Just had someone reposting the anti-tax image on my feed. Given that this person has never had a job paying higher than minimum wage (and has been on welfare in the past), one has to wonder exactly how much of their taxes actually go to those mythical people who refuse to work. I mean if I were going to make that image I'd say that it's wrong to tax a working person almost to the breaking point and then give tax breaks to the rich who can afford to pay more, but hey, what do I know, I'm just some stupid socialist. Edit: Oh here, I just noticed the same person sharing this incredibly clever and insightful image. So you've gotta know that we're dealing with a classy and intelligent person here. ol qwerty bastard has a new favorite as of 02:54 on Jun 24, 2013 |

It seems to be a law of facebook that for every idiot you defriend, at least one formerly-sane person will then take the position of the "idiot on facebook" and start cluttering up your newsfeed with racism/sexism/conspiracy theories/etc. The same person from my previous post has been on a real roll tonight; she's just posted a meme which states "call me old-fashioned, but I think your shorts should be longer than your vagina" and a link to a youtube video exposing the dangers of water fluoridation. I don't understand how there's always someone waiting in the wings to become the next nutjob but it is deeply worrying that it's apparently so easy for people to go from being normal to being crazy and/or unapologetically offensive. What if it happens to me?
