Here's the original Slavic Pagans thread http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?688581-So-uh-what-the-heck-is-up-with-Slavs

Some of the events:

quote:

EVENT: Kupala Night

TRIGGER:
1) Character is a ruler
2) Character is Slav
3) Month is July or June

EVENT TEXT: As every year, it's the time to celebrate Kupala Night, an ancient festival of fertility. Ceremonies sancted by tradition are many. Lovers will jump over the flames of bonfires to test their dedication to themselves. Young girls float wreaths of flowers lit with candles on the rivers and pray to the Gods to gain forsight into their relationship fortunes. Unmarried women don't spend this night alone - they will go deep into the forest in search of the legendary fern flower which gives immortality and blossom only during this night. And of course there is a feast. How are you going to spend Kupala Night?

OPTION 1: Feast without me? No way!
(-5 gold)
(+5 prestige)
(1% chance of getting Drunkard)

OPTION 2: I think I will escort the ladies to the forest, just in case.
(+5 prestige)
(15% chance of falling in love in one of courtiers)

OPTION 3: Me and my <SPOUSE> will test our love in the fire!
(+20 prestige)
(+10 spouse opinion)
(5% chance of getting Wounded)

(IF SHY) OPTION 4: I will just stay at home...
(-10 prestige)

EVENT: The First Haircut

TRIGGER:
1) Character is a ruler
2) Character is Slav
3) Character have a son
4) Character's son reaches the age of 7 (event fires on his 7th birthday)

EVENT TEXT: The time has come. Years ago Gods blessed you with a son, who has now reached an age when he can officialy become a man in a rite of passage. Postrzyzyny, as the Slavs call it, marks the moment of transition to the world of men - your <SON'S NAME> will no longer be treated as a child. Cutting your son's hair means that you formaly recognize him as yours. As tradition commands, this special moment should be celebrated with a feast.

OPTION 1: By the glory of Perun and Svetovid, <SON'S NAME> is truly my son! Send the invitations!
(+10 relations with son)
(+10 relations with son's mother)
(-20 gold)
(+10 prestige)
(son gets +5 prestige])
(vanilla feast decision triggered)

OPTION 2: Alas <SON'S NAME> is my son, but I find no joy being father of this brat. Can somebody cut his hair?
(-20 relations with son)
(-30 relations with son's mother)
(-10 piety)

OPTION 3: <SON'S NAME> is neither a man nor my son - I renounce him as my heir!
(-100 relations with son)
(-100 relations with son's mother)
(son gets a Bastard trait)

Further reading on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_h...Slavic_culture
There is a lot of information about this custom on the Internet, however not in English.
Ideally there should be a separate trait for this (with some serious Diplomacy malus), but I choosed Bastard to make it all easier. Or maybe Option 3 should be avaible only to characters with Cynical or Ambitious, you decide.

quote:

EVENT: Dziady

TRIGGER:
1) Character is a ruler
2) Character is Slav
3) Month is March or September

EVENT TEXT: The day of Dziady has come. Today the spirits of dead fly free acros the world of the living. Every Slav has to prepare food-offering to gain their favor. Lights which will guide them away from the dark and lead them to their close ones are lit on the crossroads. Some even try to gain wisdom and guidance by summoning the souls of the ancestors through the dark magic.

OPTION 1: Let this fire guide you, let the honey and grits satisfy your hunger, o spirits!
(+5 piety)
(-1 gold)

OPTION 3: Who cares about the ghosts anyway?
(-5 piety)
(-5 prestige)
(loose Zealous)
(50% chance of getting Cynical)

(IF MYSTIC) OPTION 4: Guide, my pride ancestors! Show me the way! I command you!
(-10 piety)
(-10 priests opinion)
(10% chance of getting +1 to Learning, Diplomacy or Intrigue)

More info on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dziady

It's nothing major or gamechanging/breaking, but adds some quite welcome flavour to Slavic Pagans, I think.

Yup!! I was wondering what unique thing to give to the Kingdom of Daxos. Under the new changes (of which I only had to add the new succession laws in order to get Sonendar to be compatible to the latest patch!), Daxians may convert to Enatic or Enatic-Cognatic. Daxians are the only culture that can switch to Enatic or Enatic-Cognatic without having other laws.

Specifically:

quote:

To switch to Enatic, rulers must be:
i) Female
ii) Have high or absolute crown authority
iii) Previously have enacted True Cognatic Succession
iv) Be Ockchaw, Green Country, or Daxian

To switch to Enatic-Cognatic, rulers must be:
i) Female
ii) Have medium or high crown authority
iii) Previously have enacted True Cognatic Succession
iv) Be Ockchaw, Green Country, or Daxian

Any plans on expanding the Sonendar map? It's not just me but it really *seems* much smaller than the standard map. Perhaps more island chains and "ireland-spain sized" islands around the main body?

Having the option to switch is nice and all, but there's a lot of potential for interesting takes on it that could use their own countries and ideas (obviously that can't be shat out this quickly after the patch).

I totally plan on expanding those other continents on the map!! The reason why it seems much smaller than the standard map is that it's completely meant to be a much smaller map. What I wanted to get across was the feeling of being on this little island, and rubbing shoulders uncomfortably with everyone else on it.

But that's a major major update. It won't be till 1.05 that I'll get around to that.

EDIT: An idea -- I spoke earlier about expanding the map to those chains directly to the southwest of the Lost Isles. I mentioned that I wanted them to be sort of piratical trade republics, republics that could loot as well as trade. "The Corsair Isles" or something of the sort, they'd have a Middle Eastern theme to them.

Maybe we could have them doing battle with a matriarchal Amazon-like warrior culture!

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best holdings to build in your personal demesne are? I've been in the habit of building cities almost exclusively for the sweet, sweet tax income, but I've started to wonder if that's a great idea. One thing I've noticed is that after the first 50 years are so, at any given time the mercenary companies are mostly contracted or rebuilding, so there's a limit on how much you can spend on them.

You have to build one of each type of holding before you can build another type (at least in vanilla), so this only becomes a consideration if you have a county with 4 or more slots. My general feeling, for the way most people play as a feudal/castle lord, is Castles > Cities > Temples. Castles allow you to lord over them yourself, so you get all the money they generate, and their substantial levies are your personal levies that you can raise and lower pretty much without any consequences at all. Cities are reliable and robust income. Temples are good income when they're paying you, but for Catholics they'll only do that about half the time. You also get a small amount of piety for having temple vassals, but I don't view that as terribly worth the outlay of cash.

In the ideal case you would really only have like 2 County titles and build about 10 castles in these counties though, you're correct. A big personal levy is cool, but a big personal levy that is pretty much all centered up and ready to rumble the second you call them up is totally sweet.

I prefer to build cities just because of the snowball effect in upgrades that the massive tax income gets you, especially now with those extra 200 years of gametime. Having less castle holdings than the other guy doesn't really matter if your castles are all fort-level 10 monstrosities with 5k worth of levies each, compared to his level 6 forts with 2k in levies. Having the cash to spontaneously diplo-assassinate an entire dynasty or buy yourself the loyalty of half your realm during a succession crisis is pretty nice too. And a powerful personal levy isn't all that useful either once your realm gets up to a certain size.

Ugh. I just read that fan Norse event. Terrible.

Since the previous DLC has been focused on adding new playable characters to the game, I'd like to see the next one go in a different direction. Improvements to the events, council, laws, and faction system. Stuff to make ruling more than just fighting wars.

Events: More events are always appreciated. Have the decisions be more grey. It's pointless to have an event with only one right answer. But it would be cool to make it more dynamic so if you had certain traits there was a bonus for picking the less ideal choice if it fits your trait.

Laws: Once you get them they way you want it's basically set and forget. I've never changed tax or levy laws. And authority gets set at medium after 3 Kings. Throw out the tax and levy laws. Tie levies directly to authority and opinion. Tax can be tied to Stewardship, opinion and maybe some events. Authority would be based now on your decision to increase it but by how to managed your realm. Long reign with lots of success and happy vassels? Win a civil war? Authority goes up. Lose a war or vassals hate you and authority goes down.

Then you can introduce new laws and policies that are more fun to switch around for different play throughs.

Honestly before you decide to conquer anyone in this game you have to come to terms with the fact that it is a sisyphean task. The conquered will always hate you, your brothers will always be jealous, and if you are from a different culture then the peasants will never stand for you sitting on the throne. The best you can do is try to plug the dam for as long as possible and try to win some of that sweet, sweet prestige for your family. Dare to be a footnote in history!

Vassals will still have a shot at rebellion if their opinion of their Faction Leader is higher than your opinion of you - they may have a +20 for you, but if they have a +90 for the other guy, well...

This is why you put faction leaders in prison at every available opportunity and send your spymaster to talk them out of joining factions and stab people (always stab people) and revoke titles.

Remember that you have a goal to gain power and grow your dynasty... and every NPC in the game has the same goal. They are invariably greedy pricks and will always be greedy pricks, so don't feel bad about murdering them.

Speaking of which, is there much call for some kind of non-poo poo mod thats just an expanded events pack? Seems like a nice first step into paradox modding and something I've wanted to try my hand at.

I was thinking of adding in more event trees and expanded those that paradox included, for want of a better word. So for example every knows the bard event, some dude comes to your castle and if you have certain stats\traits you get a random bonus\malus for a few years or get a relationship boost with a random vassal. Pretty dull after the first 10 times you see it. I'd look to offer a new option something like "Play me a song" for a few gold, the bard then has a random chance of playing one of a few songs that in turn offer up a few new possibilities. For example, he sings a song about a dragon in Wessex and a courtier can try and convince you to go to try find and kill the dragon. Or perhaps while singing a rather rowdy song two of your counts end up in a fight and you have to pick a side.

I also think a few gamble type events might fit well. Say you're educating an heir, he mentions to you he'd like to play a musical instrument, you can either hire a tutor for him or say no, then over a period of time events let you know how he is getting on with and you can either push him to go further or give him a slap on the back and point him to more kingly pursuits. Each stage you urge him on through his difficulties has a chance of going two ways, either it gives him increasingly good positive traits and stats but risks ever worse malus's and vices if he snaps and finally beats his servants to death with that god drat lute. So the first time you push him when he has difficulties it might be 80% chance of success and he gets a little bonus, then 70%, 50%, 30% and so on.

This is something that a lot of people are reporting in CK2+, which is odd because none of the user-moddable files should be affecting that tendency. I'm curious whether it's happening in vanilla too but just getting masked by how easy it is to form kingdoms in vanilla.

The Prince and The Thane does this pretty well, for all its other flaws - when the inheritance happens, you call all your vassals to the coronation to swear fealty; if they refuse to come you can make war on them as traitors. Emperors can also request a Papal coronation, though it's preposterously expensive. I think the coronation also acts sorta like a feast when it comes to bonuses. Going back to vanilla, I think coronations are definitely something the game is missing.

It's nowhere near as smooth or playable an experience as vanilla or vanilla-balance mods. It crashes and lags a lot, and there's a lot of fluff that doesn't really add anything to the core game play. Also it's pretty unbalanced - for whatever reason, it gets really really easy to hold a large realm together, particularly an empire. All the extra prestige you get from events and whatnot making everyone love you just makes that problem worse, too.

I literally started a new Shattered World CK2+ game last night, and stayed up way too late trying to figure out a way to save my succession after my heir inherited a new county, went to go rule it, and patrilineally married some fool. In the end, I ended up having to just declare war on her, seize her county, and then execute her husband so I could marry her matrilineally to a loyal courtier (and just in time, too, since I died a year later), and it'd be shame to think that was all for nothing.
