IIRC, they did the same thing during the last Winter Sale.

I like it. For one thing, it avoids the "I want this game but won't buy it until the very last day of the sale just in case it's a daily deal" irritation of the Steam sales.

Now that the Ultima sale has come around again, I've gotta ask: I own 4-7 and the Underworlds. Should I bother completing the series? I know enough about 1-3 and 9 that I could take or leave them, but I know barely anything about 8. I know you're stuck as a male Avatar in goofy armor, and you can jump. What I got out of the reviews was, the gameplay is simplified, but the writing is alright, and while it's not a great Ultima game, it is a pretty good game on its own. Is it worth it, for this price?

I would say 8 is worth it just for the experience it. Its interesting to see The Avatar have to align himself with pagan gods in order to get back home. And they did patch out the horrendous platforming; you still have to jump from platform to platform, but they made them all stationary so its a non-issue. 1-3, especially as cheap as they are in the sale, deserve to be picked up. Its a fun look back to the SUPER early days of gaming.

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is seriously one of my favourite adventure games, so that's great to see. It's been stuck under Harlan Ellison's crooked old vulture wings for far too long. I mean, it's not really a good adventure game. The whole concept is so abstract that puzzle solutions often make very little sense, but it's definitely part of why I like it. It's one of the most surreal games I've ever played and it expands on the original story in some really cool ways. It's basically like what if Dark Seed was actually good. (Man, I really hope Dark Seed shows up as well now)

Ultima 9 is terrible nobody should own it its the MoO3 or Daikatana of RPGs. Ultima 8 isnt very good but I think is probably worth picking up in a sale. Parts of the story can be interesting but the gameplay gets old quickly the world is much smaller than the previous Ultimas and unlike Serpent ISle the smaller world really didnt lead to an increase in detail. Its a noticable step back in quality from 7 and 8 but had some cool concepts plus the Avatar gets to engage in human sacrifices and summoning the devil. But this is the only reason you get U8

I actually beat 99 Levels to Hell. I swear it's impossible to do so unless you always start from Level 1, because you NEED the upgrades you can get by doing so. The ending dialogue wouldn't play. It goes "So-" and stops. Taking it as a challenging game where you play from level 1-100, and dying means you start all the way back at level 1, it's not a terrible game and can be pretty fun. As a game where you can use check points to resume every 10 levels, it's really imbalanced. Was worth buying on sale.

I can't vouch for BTTF, but I hear good things. Wallace and Grommit are OK, but they're very easy and clearly designed for kids. That being said, if you want to snare an 8-year-old into the adventure game life, Wallace and Grommit is a great entry point.

Sam & Max's first Season is a little rough, but it starts to hit its stride around episode 4. The Second season is good with a spectacular final two episodes and Season 3 is just epic and totally awesome. Wallace & Gromit is fun and charming and is worth the price for the third episode alone, but the second episode is also real good. Tales of MI is fun, but I think whether or not you enjoy it depends on if you appreciate the direction they take the series in, and also bear in mind that there's a very real possibility that the sorta-cliffhanger at the end will never be resolved.

It's a shame they couldn't get Peter Sallis to voice Wallace in the respective games, but the replacement does a very solid version of Wallace's voice. They also took the time to get the old voice actors from Curse of Monkey Island for Tales of Monkey Island. Just wouldn't be Guybrush Threepwood without Dominic Armato . Or Earl Boen as LeChuck, for that matter (they couldn't get him for the first episode, but they did for the later ones and had him re-dub the first episode). choobs posted:Tales of MI is fun, but I think whether or not you enjoy it depends on if you appreciate the direction they take the series in, and also bear in mind that there's a very real possibility that the sorta-cliffhanger at the end will never be resolved. If the stars align, and adventure gamers complete a fetch quest involving a chicken with a pulley in the middle, 4 cc's of mouse blood, and a home-made set of insulate tongs made from items involving an inflatable rubber duck and a broken clamp, all to prepare a suitable offering to the various pagan gods of mischief and trickery. edit: Oh and just because it's not immediately apparent on the front page of the GoG sales, the order of the Sam and Max seasons is - Save the World, - Beyond Time and Space, - The Devil's Playhouse.
