Here in Denmark a wallet without room for coins would be pretty much useless.

Here in the States coins are used for whatever is due that is not an even dollar or paying for bus fare, and typically go in a front pocket with housekeys, a couple receipts, and whatever else you need to hold on to. Hell, we have machines made specifically for taking hundreds of dollars worth of loose change that floats between car seats, the laundry room, under couch cushions, as well as whatever change containers we have around and converting it into gift cards. We use lots of coins, we just hate bringing them with us so it sort of piles up.

These rubber band wallets seem cool in theory but a hassle to use when you actually need to purchase anything. Unless you have the order of your cards memorized, I don't see how it's better than a regular wallet. ~minimalism~

Just sent my Kickstarter in for approval, and have gotten good feedback and am thinking its looking really nice. Launch is getting me anxious. I'm buying banner ads for SA, some serious and some more lighthearted, but does anyone have any general advice in how to get my name out there? Such as what sites to buy ads on. I've contacted basically everyone there is to contact by mail and by email, and am going to keep doing so. I know theres a thread for advice, and I've been following it- however the advice I'm asking from you all is not how to make it great... instead it is how to make it not suck in the ways most people fall into suckage.

The point i am trying to make nothing is risk free 16 years ago there was no internet but one man changed that. HEDY LAMARR was a actresses in the 1930's she came up with guided torpedoes for world war 2 she called and called the US army, government but no one listened because she was beauty and she was a actresses. My point is no one can understand vision if it was the 1930's are 1492 would kickstarter be a place to support like Hedy Lamarr and Christopher Columbus I miss the sheer passion Realgamersgrind had for this project. I decided to archive binge the Good Kickstarters thread in PYF, and found this posted on the first page: Ravaged. It's long since funded, but it's an absolutely pure slice of "Remember when games were good? Back before the casuals?" Some choice quotes: Dawn Games posted:As video game developers we often get pulled into the land of publishers. While its good to have someone backing your game, it also tends to focus games towards trends... Yes, tell me about how your post-apocalyptic multiplayer FPS boldly defies industry trends. Dawn Games posted:Why is this different from other first person shooters? Because nobody else is trying to make shooters that are fun. Dawn Games posted:Skill is Needed So what you're saying is that I probably don't want to buy your game, considering that every player at the start is a noob. Got it. I really really hate this whole attitude, and this Kickstarter is it distilled and refined. The whole thing sounds nothing like developers with an actual idea of how the game's systems will work, it comes off more like a bunch of 15 year olds fantasizing about the perfect game that isn't for the smelly casuals.

Rapdawg posted:I know theres a thread for advice, and I've been following it- however the advice I'm asking from you all is not how to make it great... instead it is how to make it not suck in the ways most people fall into suckage. Edit your video. Get somebody who knows what they're doing to edit your video. Show the entire video and kickstarter page to somebody BEFORE LAUNCHING IT , and get all their comments and take those into consideration, remake the page accordingly. Maybe repeat this a few times. The more polished everything is at launch, the better off you'll be. Edit all of the text you write, make sure it all flows well. Get people to read it, and make revisions. Just like College. Break up your text into neat paragraphs and use either pictures or graphics to break them up. Its pleasing to the eye and draws attention. If people see a wall of text, they go "TLDR" nowadays. Don't try to be ironic or awkward or do anything ridiculous in your video. Get to the point very quickly. You can be funny if you are funny, but again, test this on an audience. Make sure it works, else just cut it. If at ALL possible, have a product ready to show off before you even START, or a prototype. If that is infeasible for the project, have as much work as you can show off, some kind of a portfolio of work that is similar, show that you're not some random internet jackoff or I'm going to assume you're a random internet jackoff who has no clue how much money X is going to cost to make and is going to piss it all down the drain. If you can't take the time to go through all the above ^ You shouldn't be launching a Kickstarter. Imagine you were about to go interview on Dragon's Den or American Inventor or whatever. Try to imagine the counter-arguments people will have, and have responses ready for them. Good luck. Maybe you could post some of it here and we could make fun of it for you, so you know what to remove? Zaphod42 has a new favorite as of 22:16 on Jul 3, 2013 |
