Here is an inquisitive paragraph if anyone feels like giving me their 2 cents.

I'm kind of a scrub who doesn't get to go to see as many (good) Djs out as I'd like. Do a lot of them mix Tech and Deep house tracks? How much blurring is there between genres? feel free to chime in with your own personal favorite DJ of the moment's habits, I'm very interested. Also how often do they incorporate their own songs into their mixes, and if they do, how much is too much/expected?

The type of music a DJ plays depends on what they like / produce, where they're playing and how well they read the crowd. I only mention the crowd thing because some DJs pre-plan their sets and don't allow room to switch things up if the crowd isn't responding well. There can be some crossover between deep and tech-house, although generally a DJ would gradually build-up to tech-house as it's faster and more rhythmic. I remember you posted in here about liking Eats Everything before, his tunes aren't strictly deep house but would fit well into a deep house set.

One of my favourite DJs in Nic Fanciulli, everytime I've seen him he plays really recognisable techno and tech-house anthems. I've seen Joris Voorn a couple of times and he plays a lot of unreleased or unheard of tech-house tunes, sometimes it's nice to go and not recognise a single tune. Also Len Faki always plays this. Always.

Hi guys, I'm looking for minimal tech house recommendations. Not really sure what I'm looking for - stuff that is not too cheesy or industrial, but dark would be nice.
I love the first track in this mix for example: https://soundcloud.com/troy-polygon/troy-polygon-schwarze-strassen (I don't care for the vocals). The 'Berghain' style seems to be in the right kind of ballpark.

it depends on who you're going to see and what the environment is.

if you're going to see someone who's playing a live set, then they'll more often than not be dropping their own stuff. most sets are only dj sets so its more often than not a mixed bag of different artists and sounds.

Some DJs mix between genres and play a diverse range of music, so have a really niche sound and tend to stay close to it. It really depends on the DJ. As far as playing your own productions, again this is something that is mixed. Some play a whole set of it, some won't play a single track. It really depends on the DJ, there are no rights or wrongs.

I think you're making a fairly common mistake, in that genres aren't discrete, objective buckets. Genres are very subjective labels, and mean different things to different people. I'd worry less about the genre and more about the DJ, personally.

Some of my favourites lately, which may or may not be tech/deep/house ;)
- Henry Saiz
- Hernan Cattaneo
- Tensnake
- Maya Jane Coles
- Nina Kravicz
- Pole Folder
- Nick Warren
- Guy J

All/most of these artists have their own Soundcloud pages where you can check out their recent stuff.

Been digging this DJ TLR mix for the past few hours. Most of The Trilogy Tapes mixes/tapes are very good (and most of them aren't available digitally), but this one really hit the spot. The perfect blend of that Creme Organization flair and excellent mixing.

Couldn't find it on Youtube, but the instrumental of Round Three - Acting Crazy is one of my favorite tools ever. Works perfectly in a lot of mixes, could be playing a deep house set and then throw this track in, pitch it up and start playing more aggressive techno tunes. My all time favorite Maurizio tool is probably M4.5, which still goes hard today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KjKTvsNVo8

Another sweet one (I sadly couldn't find) is Bjorn Torske's & Crystal Bois mix of As'besto that's quite literally called DeeJay Tool. It's quite hard to come by, but has a great melodic pattern in it that blends easily.

A more recent tool I really like (that leans more on the house side) is ItaloJohnson 06 A1. The synth that kicks in around 2:30 just totally does it for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9ADONuE4BU

Been listening to a lot more of ACM's stuff recently, and I have to say...I seem to prefer his original tech house sounds he had before he moved on to darkside drum and bass. Anybody else here have a similar artist that they prefer their minimal electronic work over any of the other experimental sub-genres they attempted?
