I liked that one guy at the end who was like "Well, we're all fine, it's no big deal, let's go play some Chivalry or something." There's a guy who really is not mad.

I tried to watch the videos of it going down but on top of not being able to make out any of the action whatsoever, I found myself unreasonably annoyed by the fact that everything anyone said was repeated at least twice.

A rocket fuel made of Doritos? Yeah, I could kind of see it.
World of Warcraft is a fairly unoffensive experience, especially as time goes on that fact seems to be growing more and more true. Blizzard seems to maintain an effort in order to keep player characters in moderation. This may be anecdotal, but on the various servers I've played, it seemed the level of pure grognardary simply wasn't up to snuff compared to other MMOs anymore. There didn't seem to be large concentrations of role players crowding the halls of the WoW equivalent of of other MMOs. As such, the whole concept of roleplayers is such a foreign concept to most WoW players, even on servers specifically designated for role-playing activities, it can be treated as a leperous activity to some extent.

I was comfortable in my understanding that Role Players were an exiled caste throughout the whole game.

However...

I was wrong. Dead wrong.

There exists, in that seemingly comfortable game, a certain place. I cannot possibly describe to anyone who has not been there simply how overwhelmingly terrifying it is. I found myself on the server named Moonguard, in the starting area for the human race called Goldshire. Goldshire has an Inn, inside of which contains a level of scum and villainy that would make old Obi-Wan blush. Or run. I've played Star Trek Online with the Dentists. As some stories have mentioned about Star Trek Online in this thread, Drozana can be a terrifying place to be. I've been there, and Drozana is nothing compared to Moonguard.

I knew the Inn was where they all were. I knew and I kept going anyway. I thought to myself it may be funny, who knows maybe I'll get a few good stories out of it to post in this thread.

I shouldn't have gone. Really.

I'll show you what I saw on the way. All images are linked for safety, consider them all :nws: at the least. However they are probably more :nms:.

quote:

lvl3 guild for ages 18 and up focusing in RP ERP Social and Leveling has a high end escort/ call girl them girls who are interested in should pst for information

Given that sight, even what was clearly going on in chat, I decided foolishly to continue.

Outside the inn was far more crowded than any other server's Goldshire by far -- even beyond that of a full server during peak hours. Except they weren't just normal players, oh no. They were mostly or partly naked low-level alts, often with terrible sexual pun or wordplay names that would make even the Tumblr community cry. Again, pay special attention to the chat on the lower-left.

http://i.imgur.com/epNFzHV.jpg

Despite all this, I decided to go into the inn with the friends I had brought along to share in my misery.

The first time I stepped into the inn, I felt a wave being emitted from my monitor. This wave had no other purpose than to completely exhaust any hope for the social structure of our society as a whole, and to overwhelm me with a sense that I was looking at something no one should ever have to see. So I'll show you. Descriptions are in spoiler-tags for those who don't want to read the terrible things I am about to describe.

To this day, if anyone of us who shared the misery that day says "get off my man" we are all overcome with a melancholic mixture of extreme laughter, then depression. In that order.

I'd love to describe more to you. Really I would. But I just don't want to describe the things going on in these pictures, so let's leave it at that. Instead, I'll dump the rest into an album for your enjoyment pain.

So, to sum up I was told about ERPers on WoW, decided to check it out maybe to contribute to the thread. What I found overwhelmed me to the point where I think in the end I was the one being griefed. I thought about posting this in the Awkward/Ugly thread, but then I realized some of these characters who participate here in Moonguard Goldshire are maximum level. Some of them have names which would get flagged by Blizzard GM's on any other server. And then I realized, Blizzard seems to be turning a blind eye to this whole server. The rules don't apply here. Blizzard GMs were being griefed themselves in a sense.

I think I need to take a shower.

When you die in WoW, you leave a body behind. When you come back, a skeleton is left behind where your body was. There's shots of Ironforge during the old Corrupted Blood plague where the ground is just a carpet of bones.

I thought I'd read somewhere that Blizzard created GM roles specifically for dealing with that cesspit and google proved me right, but clearly your screenshots tell a different tale. Did they give up and pull out? Is that the state of affairs with GM coverage and it was worse before?

No I mean, I know that bodies leave skeletons in WoW, but why are there so many dead bodies in that horrible ERP inn? Are people going in there to kill the ERPers? I'd think that the spergy people who do these awful things wouldn't ever play on a pvp server.

They tend to do that in EVE because when you're in a voice channel with eight hundred people, you need to repeat things over and over.

It's much, much more aggravating to hear in person - my former housemate leads a Planetside 2 outfit and insists on repeating anything he says at least three or four times. It's absolutely maddening to hear "Push to A. Push to A. Push to A. Push to A. Alright go to C. Go to C. Go to C. Go to C. Defend B. Defend B. Defend B. Defend B." for HOURS ON END.

My solution became to just shut my door and blast music any time he was playing Planetside, or I would have cut his head off at some point.

The corpses are probably horde players trying to sneak into the inn to spam players inside Goldshire with NPC calls for help. You can see it in a few screenshots.

Back when I played horde side it was a favorite past time of my friends and I to spam people in there with the automated NPC call for guards whenever we got bored. We weren't the only ones that did this either, too. Amazingly enough, the corpses this generates do absolutely nothing to bother the people in the inn. So it's basically a never ending charnel house orgy. :stonk:

Hell, during October the place is literally on fire nearly 24/7 due to a world event that takes place on the servers. This does nothing to dissuade its occupants.

At the end of every expansion a horde death squad occasionally rolls through the place and just butchers everything flagged, since everyone is geared up and bored due to being off the treadmill. Typically you need to irritate them with NPC spam first to get a few to flag on you. Otherwise you just have to make yourself a target.

But that only shuts part of it down for like five minutes since it's right next to a graveyard. Plus, every time we did that the Alliance would inevitably roll out of Stormwind en-mass to kill us. Presumably in an act of vengeance over them losing partial control of their creepy corpse-ridden brothel.

I know this because when I played, in my ignorance I thought that place could be trolled for hilarious screenshots of people losing their poo poo at me. It cannot. It makes Drozana on Star Trek Online look sane. It's the loving end game of trolling. Where Poe's Law may be in full effect and you're simultaneously pulling a :stonk: face and wondering how the gently caress these people function in polite society.

For every ERPer, there's at least ten lovely/badly thought out trolls present at any time that have basically immunized the people there to almost every sort of grief. And there's so many flat out insane/disgusting people there (Get the RP addons and go reading. It's a gallery of horrifying fetishes. You think CoH's bingo board is bad? You ain't seen nothing yet. Sex on corpses is probably only mid-tier in being horrifying. :stonk:) that it's hard to even get them angry. They're that jaded and dug in.

I recently started playing Terraria again and had a little fun messing with a couple of guys on a multiplayer server.

Terraria is kind of like Minecraft but 2d and more combat oriented. The server I was on had tools set up to allow you to flag/unflag for PvP. If you are unflagged you cannot be harmed by other players, however you can still hurt people by the use of traps and the environment. Two traps I like to use are dart traps, which when powered shoot darts horizontally every couple of seconds that deal a little bit of damage and apply a poison effect, and boulder traps where you place a pressure plate that turns a few stone blocks off (essentially making them disappear until the pressure plate is activated again) and drops a giant boulder. Even if you have max hp/defense, 2-3 boulders can kill you easily.

I started out finding some guys that were dueling and making a huge vertical wall of dart traps pointed at them (like 25-30 blocks tall) and setting them up with an automated timer to fire them every couple of seconds. I was able to kill one of them before the other one followed the arrows to the source (they can travel quite far) and started dismantling my traps. At first, I just rebuilt them as fast as he broke them, but then I got bored and went looking for other people.

Nearby I found some guy that had spent time building and decorating a house. He had built it pretty tall and covered it in 3 layers of spikes. Spikes deal damage when touched and his house was in the way of anyone that wanted to keep traveling in that direction. At first, I just dismantled the spikes on the near side and broke through the wall to install a door allowing people to just open the door and run trough to the other side. He did not appreciate me doing this and after I had left he took down my door and reinstalled the spikes. After messing with a couple more duelers, I came back to find this house in my way once again.

This time he was prepared for me and rebuilt his spikes as I took them down. Rather than fight him for access to his house, I noticed that he had dug a shaft down under his house. I dug down over to the shaft an jumped down it to see what he had been doing. He had dug down quite a ways and it looked like he was digging a hellevator, a long vertical shaft (:quagmire:) used for quick access to the hell layer at the bottom of the map. I decided to trap the poo poo out of the shaft.

I dug to the right of the current bottom of the hellevator a fairly good distance and installed some dart traps. I then installed a pressure pad in front of the traps that dropped no less than five boulders that would then roll toward the dart traps, killing anyone that tried to dismantle the darts. I also installed dart traps along the length of the hellevator and more boulders activated by the same pressure plate as the other five to help block the hellevator. With my traps built, I then went off to taunt the guy in his stupid roadblock of a house.

When I got back to the top of the hellevator, I found that the guy had built more spikes at the top to trap me inside. He was positioned in his house to ward off intruders and he had a friend under his house to rebuild the spikes at the top of the hellevator. I used a magic item to port back to my spawn and ran back to the house. I started annoying the guy and his friend by dismantling the spikes on one side and placing dart traps to shoot through the hole in the wall, digging a bunch of holes around his house and just generally being a nuisance. After sufficiently baiting them, I dug a hole over to the hellevator and dropped down. The homeowner's friend followed.

I used my grappling hook to stop myself before hitting the bottom of the shaft and watched the friend hit bottom and get shot up with darts. At first, he tried jumping up to me and hitting me with his sword, but I was not flagged or PvP so he could not hurt me. He then went off to dismantle the dart traps and I dug a hole in the shaft wall so I would not be hit by the boulders that would soon be coming down it. The friend got to the darts, set off the boulders and was crushed to death.

He respawned and ran back to the house while I went back up the hellevator and proceeded to try and break my way in. I spent about 10 minutes in a futile attempt to dig faster then they could build. Eventually someone came to my aid and with the two of us attacking in different places we broke our way in and ran around taking the whole house apart out of spite for this giant pointy roadblock. I would have filled it with lava but the server did not allow the use of empty buckets so I could not pick any up.

There were actually horde characters (mostly max level too when I was there) who would be...participating up there. My guess is that all those bones are from all the times guards would spot the Horde players and summon more onto them. Mostly, players didn't seem to attack each other regardless of faction. In fact, you can even see some horde players smack dab in the middle of the huge crowd in a few of those pictures (They're the ones with yellow names).

While EVE does tend to bring out the very best tales of grief and woe, STO has by far the best effort to grief ratio. The kind of EVE grief that would get someone to threaten to find you, kill you, and rape your dog for good measure takes real time and effort invested to pull off. In STO, you can get a man to threaten to find you and gut you just by dropping a disco ball near them.

Some of us have gone on ground STF's (think 5-man raids) against the borg and used disco balls at every opportunity, causing the borg to dance. Pubbies blame the disco balls for their failure to complete the STF. They have literally put forth an argument that we are robbing them of their completion rewards. So, Trekkies are still just as socially retarded, completely up-their-own-rear end smug about their own levels of intelligence, and have the same massive superiority complexes they have been stereotyped to have forever.

Good to know.

Your human mentality cries out for vengeance and thrives on the violence you say you can hardly endure.
I would like to know how he feels about being in his 50s and getting mad enough over something inconsequential in a video game to type pages and pages of noonecares.txt, personally.

Just opened the link and i'm about to settle in with some serious drinking. I may have an answer for you if Concatenation, if I can get my BAC high enough to think i'm a 50 year old trekkie with social issues.

Isn't anyone that uses Second Life regularly pretty much using it for deviant things anyway? Why else would you use it?

I took a class a few years ago where we used it to construct archaeological sites as they would've appeared in their heydey. (Our focus was Chichen Itza). This wasn't in Second Life proper, though, just the program.

Some of us have gone on ground STF's (think 5-man raids) against the borg and used disco balls at every opportunity, causing the borg to dance. Pubbies blame the disco balls for their failure to complete the STF. They have literally put forth an argument that we are robbing them of their completion rewards. Because making borg dance when not shooting players is somehow the cause of their failure, not their inability to stop frothing in rage over chat and actually shoot back.

I am a dyed-in-the-wool Trekker and former STO player (Wrote up a lore-friendly backstory for my character and everything) and even I want to give these people swirlies and steal their lunch money.
