Saw a preview video showing off the new sensor based phase detection AF. It seems fast and accurate. So if it proves reliable on the 70D, there's nothing that'd stop Canon from doing a mirrorless DSLR-like, without translucent mirror bullshit like what's necessary on Sony right now.

I cant seem to figure this out, we talked about it awhile back, but I reset my firmware and its STILL doing it. Ever since I tried to install magic lantern my camera lags for about 1-2 seconds on boot up now. It sounds minor but it used to bootup instantly and it's REALLY annoying me. I just want my camera back to normal I formatted my card and installed firmware 1.2.1 (the latest) for the 5d mark 3, and it still does it. What the hell can I do at this point!? I'm running out of ideas.

Sounds like at one point in time you set up an autoexec file to auto boot magic lantern on wake. Did you undo that autoexec?

I don't think the 5d mark 3 firmware HAS that option :/

I got a 100mm f/2.8L Macro from an eBay seller that feed turned me on to that was new for less than refurb price.

I have a t3 currently and have been eyeing up the 60d, since it is what I can afford. Buydig has it for $599, shipped with no tax. Seems like quite a deal. Unless I wait for people to start unloading their's cheap when they get the 70D or a FF camera. From what I can tell, getting a 60d is worth it over a T4i/T5i. Would that be a correct assumption? I already have a Tamron 17-50 2.8 and a 70-200 f4L use with it.

Bigger, top LCD, dual control wheels, locking mode wheel. The T5i has the touch LCD and has the video AF, and has all cross-type AF points compared to just the center on the 60D.

Not a huge price difference from the T5i (considering it won't be out for a couple months) and has some nice features like wifi, 2 more fps and megapickles, and 19 all crosstype AF points vs 9 on the T5i. And yes, from an ergonomics perspective, avoid the Rebel series.

Got quite the surprise today. Have a 100-400 that doesn't work right; Canon says the barrel assembly needs replacing and it would cost more than the lens is worth, so wasn't going to do much with it. Been sitting in a drawer here when I figured I'd check ebay pricing. Well, I just about shat a brick when I saw _damaged_ 100-400 lenses go for over 500 bucks. I mean, one that had sat underwater for half an hour went for 526 dollars + shipping. Listed mine and it has 34 watchers already and is up to 50 bucks with 6 days left. WHAT THE HELL

For as little time I spend actually using my gear, I might as well start buying broken stuff. I'd hardly be able to tell the difference.

They're held together with screws and retaining rings just like any other lens. I have no illusions that the resulting product would be a good one, but there's a non-zero chance there's someone out there with enough knowhow to get something working.

Somebody knows somebody who knows a guy who's brother is a Canon service tech and has a complete set of repair tools at home...or something... Lens shows up on ebay as used but "recently fully serviced by canon" so its not technically an outright lie...
