I'm surprised someone in the party hasn't taken him aside and bluntly told him to shut his mouth because he's doing more harm to the Liberals than good by writing all of these smarmy articles and talking up his party membership.

Maybe they've finally figured they could get some use out of him by having him associate himself with a competing candidate in an upcoming by-election? He's like the cooler, without the heartwarming redemption story.

So ran into Trudeau this weekend (and again sadly) on Monday. Maybe I'm too far gone into common sense ville but how do people like this guy ?

Is crashing a non-profit charity breakfast, trolling, then letting his entourage cut in line ahead of people waiting something classy in Liberal ontario demographics ? Is there honestly nobody left of the Cretien era who wants to bitchslap this guy ?
Second time, cowboys VIP section. Mr. Classy pours a beer in a girls purse (not his wifes). Denys it, tries to get in bar fight with executives & owners. Entourage bails him out. Limos waiting outside.

They just spent the last 6 years boosting Harper and when it turned out he's not such a golden boy after all they decided to pump up the Libs again. God forbid we let anyone other than liberals and conservatives (actually liberals with some populist window dressing) have a crack.

Its just totally astounding that someone that, well... silver spooned is such a brat. a 41 year old brat.

Problem I see is that Green party is too lightweight. Green party policy is centered around recreating the French/German green movement which boils down to 1 thing: green credits/carbon credit exchanges through overt or passive tax grabs. The only problem is these treasured equalization credits are one of the largest tax frauds since Eurobonds in the EU. They have 0 policy on any other part of canada. 10 years later and the green's still have 0 party line on federal geopolitical docterine, opinions of civic infrastructure or soft power policy.
And the NDP ? God help us if we had to rely upon NDP to actually do something mission critical ie. make a Canadian content decision on a Blackberry breakup or decide if Canada must commit to a NATO bosnia style intervention in a Syrian insurrection route. poo poo, find me an NDP who can explain to me how natural resource flow-through tax credits work in boosting the net income of a Maritime household and I will flip my card carrying status overnight. The party since Broadbent is just pure, populist-socialist publicity gimmicks. They cant even be creditable PARL critics on our economic underperformance vs. the US soft-monetary policies.

Team Theology should be able to tell you about the relative knowledge of your standard politician of any colour being completely beside-the-point when you have civil servants who produce reports, white papers, studies, polls and so forth. You have lobbyists and experts who are pretty smart people, and not necessarily doing a con job. Furthermore, you can look outside the country for examples and expert help - Paul Dewar won't be using purely his own gut instincts and interior knowledge on Syria. In fact, I trust the NDP to use and respect these sources more than I do any other party, especially on the economy.

Also, your gimmick seems to be swinging into threads and implying or outright saying (with nary an ounce of humility) that you're the economically literate goon.

The last Liberal government made deeper cuts to government programs than any other government since World War II and started the regime of endless corporate tax cuts that Harper has continued. They got elected on a platform called the 'Red Book' that promised huge investments in educaiton and infrastructure but they simply cancelled those promises and instead opted to massively reduce the contribution the federal government made to provincial budgets. While Harper has starved the Canadian state through tax cuts, the previous Liberal government was willing to actually make massive cuts to government programs.

The Liberal party since then has behaved in a way that suggests that the more fiscally conservative side of the party remains in ascendancy behind the scenes. Trudeau's chief of staff is Cyrus Reporter, a lobbyist who has worked for the pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and energy companies (including Bayer and BP). All Trudeau's concrete policy announcements have been in favour of more trade deals that would continue the policies that have done so much damage to Canada's middle class.

I tend to agree that Trudeau would be better than Harper but don't be under any illusions that the Liberals will 'fix' anything the Conservatives have done. They aren't that kind of party.

Many of the Liberals have no objection to Harper's policies except that they think its slightly unrefined. They think the current Conservatives are still Reform yokels who don't deserve to hold the reigns of power, but they don't have a radically different vision for the economy or society.
