It's not a binary issue, Christ what a stupid question. There are different degrees of acceptability. It's not right but it's tolerated because of recent history in race relations. Maybe it's just that being called mean names and people not making a stink about it isn't all that big of a deal against the entire backdrop of what minorities deal with on a day to day basis for their entire lives. I hate to imply the whole thing is a fight but the best way I can put it is that it's a battle that was lost in a war white people won long ago and complaining about it makes it sound like you need your cake and want to eat it too.

Again, in the end I don't think it's ever a good thing to be calling people names based on their race, but that's my take on why no one cares that someone called you a cracker.

It's like, if you get insulted by a little kid. If a 5 year old kid called you a motherfucking oval office, there's no way you'd be offended. You'd find it cute or funny. That's because that kid is powerless compared to you, he can't do poo poo except say a word so there's no bigger implication.

That's what it's like to be called cracker as a straight, white male in this country.

If you were called a motherfucking oval office by your physically abusive dad, there is a bigger implication and it turns the insult in a completely different direction. The woman in Iowa was fired because Iowa is an At Will Employment state, which is what people always confuse Right to Work with. It means that your employer can fire you for any reason as long as it doesn't have to do with a protected class. That's nice and all, this clever ruse to ferret out which approaches are just too mean to successfully convert those who are completely ignorant of racial dynamics, but explaining the intricacies of race relations and power dynamics to every single mouth breather who thinks that they should be allowed to say the N-word will not prove that fruitful in the long run.

Yes, there are plenty of great logical arguments to be made against casual racism, but D&D is not a junior high social studies class, and the pedantic need for people to explain in small words what racism is and why it's bad to any random troll just seems like a waste of forum space. This isn't really a subtle issue in our society, and zero-tolerance is often the best approach when dealing with bigotry, specifically.
