Yeah, he can't be Major Tom. Brock left him screaming at the bottom of the Sargasso Sea. But it could have just been a whole thing referencing members of Team Venture, proving that he used to be one of Jonas's friends until he turned him into a homicidal cyborg. Man, it really sucks to be connected to Jonas Venture. Just ask Dr. Entmann and the dozens of children he left trapped underground!

KilGrey posted:At 2:19, is...is The Monarch dressed up like Lo Pan? Definitely Lo Pan. So speculating from the season 5 trailer: You can see Dr. Mrs. The Monarch with Doc in his goofy clown costume suit and tie so he definitely lives. I also think we haven't seen the scene of Doc walking down the road mostly naked as the hover tank drives past so presumably he escapes with her help and unbeknownst to Hatred. Then you have that scene with Hatred shelling the cocoon which makes sense but I still have no idea how Gary ends up all First Blood in the woods with Hatred.

Honey! Does not compute! [Brock: Oh, hey sorry man haven't seen her] Does not com- Who am I? I think the plane is going down..." The Monarch's parents died in a plane crash and we got the picture of Dr. Venture and them earlier this season so it seems to be hinting at that, but then again we know how the speculation of Dermott being Brock's son turned out. If you want more useless Vendata heres all the text they showed in his OSI profile: quote:Name/Known Aliases: Vendata - 1979 to present.

If the Monarch and Rusty were in college at the same time, '76 sounds about right for when the Monarch's parents died.

Watch them never bring this up again, and it just becomes another little nugget of "common knowledge" that Vendata was the Monarch's dad, like Kano killing Jonah.

The Vendata as the Monarch's dad theory has a major hole in it. Rusty and The Monarch are both about the same age. The Monarch's parents died when he was 8. If Vendata was made in 1976 from a freshly killed Monarch Dad then the Monarch would have been born in 1968. Rusty was already a boy adventurer in 1968: that's when he was first taken to Spanikopeta. Edit: Misplaced a sentence.

I mean he's been dealing with poo poo like that nonstop for decades. That comes from one of the animators who used to give Rusty an annoyed look in the background if the scene was not about him. That was such a great little touch.

Remember how, in the season 2 DVDs, Jackson and Doc joke that the next season will introduce a sassy, flamboyant character whose catchphrase is "Boom! Yummy." - and Season 3 introduced us to Shore Leave/Holy Diver? I just recalled the NYC Comic-Con panel they did after season 4, where Doc Hammer says:Doc Hammer posted:We have two voices that are almost the same voice, [Ghost Robot] and the guy from the Council of 13, (monotone) "The One Who Speaks Like This." They're really long horrible voices, I want to do a whole episode that is just those two guys talking and just excruciate everyone around them not having a good time. Not quite a whole episode, but it was certainly the backbone of "Bot Seeks Bot." Hell, in trying to find that quote I went back to their SDCC panel from last year, where Doc says "Yeah, we brought back that Saint Cloud idiot from season 1" super off-handedly after talking about their habit of turning background extras into full-fledged characters. I'm not writing off anything these guys say in interviews going forward.

I've got a whole week of nothing to do so I'm going to marathon the entire show again. The "bouncer not buying the ventriloquist gag for a second but playing along anyway" thing was pretty great, but it kinda felt like a rehash of the "smuggling Bigfoot and Steve Summers past the MPs" bit. I loved how they animated Billy playing the dummy though. Also—man, this show sure is getting a lot of mileage out of "bat-themed superheroes/villains who may or may not be derivative of Batman", isn't it? Have the Dienamonster or the Slaughter Engine, also products of the project that created Vendata, shown up before? Also, nice to know that Rusty apparently did better with his Venturesteins (i.e. got them into production, even if the military just used them for suicide bombing) than Jonas did with his Weaponise-The-Dead project. Great episode, looking forward to the finale! Edit: Joseph and His Multicoloured Nightmare Coat! LashLightning fucked around with this message at 15:33 on Jul 15, 2013 |

axleblaze posted:I've been rewatching alot of older Venture and I think my favorite thing about Doc is that nothing really phases him and his default response is to be a petty, sarcastic dick. Like in Powerless in the Face of Death, when Orpheus teleports in, covered in ectoplasm, his only response is to say "we have a door". Also in Love Beits, they're all being held in the pantry and the invite to the Baron and Deans wedding get slipped under the door. Brock grabs it and docs only response is "that was addressed to me?" He just doesn't miss the chance to be annoyed by things that don't matter and it's especially great because he doesn't really get annoyed by actually threatening things, just bored. He may be physically weak, self-serving and impotent but he's a total badass when it comes to facing the unknown. Makes sense of course, he's Rusty loving Venture, the Greatest Boy Adventurer that ever was. The poo poo he's seen and the psychological torture he was put through before he hit puberty was so horrible that what's going to phase him anymore? Also the old Team Venture literally raised him to be a child murderer. As in a child that murders people. Honestly it's a wonder he's not more screwed up, nobody has been shat upon in the show as much as Rusty was. Even Hank and Dean had Brock as an actually good father figure, Rusty had no-one whatsoever. Except H.E.L.P.E.R, I guess...
