Eridium is just uncommon enough that it's kinda fun to scramble over and gleefully snatch it up when you see it drop, even if you don't really need it. It's enjoyable to loot things, it's just not very fun to have to loot lovely things or pick through lovely things to loot non-lovely things.

Borderlands is described as a "shoot-and-loot" series, so I actually think it's good that actively looting stuff is part of the gameplay; it's a simple, intuitive way to indulge your greed when you're not indulging your homicidal tendencies, just like shooting people until they die is a simple, intuitive way to indulge your homicidal tendencies when you're not indulging your greed. I do think the experience could be streamlined by reducing the amount of time the player spends manually picking up/carefully reticule-hunting between junk items.

I absolutely agree that tokens and crystals should autopickup though. It's a little obnoxious that they don't, because you occasionally end up pacing in circles with your nose to the ground because what if I missed one??

Plus the horrific let down of seeing that purple or pink spike sticking up and finding out it's not a new bad rear end purple or e-tech weapon :argh:

Is it just me or is there far less loot in this game. I've been playing for close to 7 hours probably and there has been tons of ammo / cash buckets, but gun chests are ultra rare for some reason.

I've had no problem finding gun chests however none of the loot is better than what I can get from the shift code/sanctuary chests so I don't really even bother anymore. I do miss being able to buy legendary weapons from Marcus vendor machines. I have yet to see one being sold whereas in BL1 I was able to get at least a Hellfire from one vendor.

So I've been trying to use an Unforgiven and a Maggie that I got from the Loot Midgets and I really wish Jakobs guns weren't so goddamn terrible in this game. When I first started playing they were my favorite manufacturer because of how badass their revolvers were, but once you get to TVHM and you need a high-damage weapon that hits everything, there's no reason not to use a Torgue or even just any shock weapon. In the time it takes to line up crits you could easily just unleash a torrent of elemental damage and kill everyone in the room twice over.

e: which makes me think, who's everyone's favorite manufacturer? I love Hyperion because at any given time it seems like they make the most broken gun in the game (the Conference Call, the Fibber, the Bee), and they make the best Plasma Casters which are pretty much some of the best weapons in the game. Tediore's a close second because their gimmick is hilarious and nothing gets you out of second wind more reliably.

I cant think of any other game where i actually like smgs but i have been running an all smg build and loving loving it. I have fast weapon swap and reload. Each encounter starts by unloading slag on everything and then constant swapping to corrosive, shock or fire. Never stop shooting.

Is there a common place or chest to get the warfare specialist mod? I have the hazard one and it owns.

it depends. despite the fact that all my characters are overloaded, this is pretty much what I run on all of them in different element profiles and quantities depending on the mod/relic I have on. Salvador has a sham on 100% of the time cuz he has 20 different launchers and every norfleet with 4.0 reload. variety!

sniper: cobra - jakobs
smg: florentine - maliwan
rocket: topneaa - vladof
shotgun: butcher - hyperion
pistol: infinity/dpuh - vladof/torgue
rifle: shredifier/sawbar - vladof/bandit

shield: fofh/antagonist - maliwan
grenade: meteor shower/crossfire/quasar - torgue/dahl/hyperion

Torgue has always been my favorite. Specifically, Torgue Shotguns, though Salvador made Torgue Pistols and Assault Rifles fun as well due to his massive fire rate bonuses.

What's there to not like about explosions?

I don't know why people say this. There were far more badass enemies in BL, and usually they just dropped some money or health, whereas in this they always drop at least a white. Every zone has like, at least three chests, or more depending on size. There's also the Golden chest of course. The drop rate from normal enemies is also way higher. The white trunks will have a gun in them sometimes, as well as lockers.

I don't like torgue, whilst their design is really well done I don't like how slow the bullets are and being limited to only explosive.

I think my favourites are Maiwan due to their sci-fi design and elemental stuff, with Vladof second and tediore third.

Patched, the amp damage is divided by number if pellets a weapon shoots now, BUT only if the pellets are listed! So the Sand Hawk for instance, which lists a single bullet but shoots 8, gets full amp damage on all 8! Also works with the unkempt Harold and a few others I can't remember. Also, if you equip it before you enter a vehicle you get amp damage on the machine gun!

Is the Evil Smasher glitch really patched? I wasn't able to do it last night, and the wiki says it's gone.

On a completely unrelated note, how the gently caress are you supposed to beat the Orc minibosses on UVHM? The first thing they do when they see you is magic themselves up to level 61 and it took us 15 minutes to move his health bar a couple of pixels.

Nah, it was last night with a friend. I was 56 and he was 53, and we had just gotten to the Mines of Avarice. Everything else until that point we had been able to grind through without too much frustration, but the torture camp boss quickly made himself impossible to kill and able to one-shot us both and then chased us around for so long the other enemies in the area respawned, so we gave up.

Basically I just finished Playthrough 1 right now and am wondering hwo I should tackle the DLC.

I found a nice little spot to power level for my late 40s lvl character with the Tiny Tina expansion. The bridge at the NE end of Immortal Woods, the green basilisks lizards, are super easy to kill and give 500-700xp each. After taking them out I go into the next zone. quit and re-load, and go back into the zone and repeat. Plus it has a ton of containers around to loot.

There's so much stuff to see and kill in BL2, why would you ever force yourself to hang around one area power-leveling? I got up to level 32 or so in my first playthrough and up to level 50 before hitting the end in TVHM just through normal play.

I've been working up a Mechromancer and just figured something out the other day: if you accidentally manually reload, you can quickly fire a shot and manually reload again and it'll cancel your Anarchy stacks burning. You'll usually lose about 5 on a quick-reloading gun. Also, you can reload-cancel by switching to another gun during the reload animation to stop them from burning at all if you're alert enough.

This only works if you have Discord. If you don't have Discord you're poo poo out of luck.

Therefore if you're an Anarchy Mechro prioritize getting Discord.

Also, if you're a Mechro, learn how to "shoot through". If you've finished a firefight and your magazine isn't full, just shoot a loving wall or something until the clip is empty. This accomplishes three things:

1. Makes sure you don't burn Anarchy stacks accidentally reloading.

2. Anarchy works that if you reload in a "combat situation", you get a stack. This effect lingers for several seconds after a battle, so if you're quick or have a high fire rate gun, you'll get an extra stack after a battle.

3. If you're an Anarchy Mechro you should run at least a point in Cooking Up Trouble, since it basically means that you can just sit after every battle and heal up (which you will end up doing because you're an Anarchy Mechro and therefore will be spending a lot of time right next to people shooting them point-blank). Learning to "shoot through" assures that you'll be running a heal passively as you're moving from place to place.
