I laugh every time I hear Republicans saying that anything the Democrats do is just to be contrary or deliberately hurt America. Because that's TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY DIFFERENT than the simple fact that the Republican party declared that its primary goal was to ensure that Obama was a one-term president with no legacy AT LITERALLY ANY COST. It doesn't matter if homelessness is increasing, hunger is increasing, unemployment is rampant, and millions of Americans are suffering. I swear to God the only way to motivate conservatives is for liberals to be for anything.

If Obama came out tomorrow and started championing a Big Mac Value Meal as the most affordable and nutritious way to feed children, GOP voters would march lock step to Whole Foods and organize a boycott of MacDonalds. Remember, these are the people that boycotted Heinz Ketchup, stood in line for hours at Chic-Fil-A because of gays, and gave Obama poo poo for wanting Dijon mustard on his hamburger.

There would be no end to their demands of purity (and the definition thereof) until the land is scoured clean of humanity. I was going down to Columbus this afternoon, and I was jamming to some Sirius/XM radio.

Well, for a while, until the pre-set radio station started to cut in with an affliate for this station:

http://www.afa.net/Radio/

Some of the highlights I heard while in car for this:

-A message for how standing up for "Traditional Marriage" (AKA denying people normal basic human dignity) is the equivalent of when Abolionists stood up to slavery.
-The hosts going on about the "Godless left" (which is hilarious because all the democrats I know in my life are christian, and one is even pro-life)
-The hosts mentioning stuff about Religion/God is a central tenant of Gov't, and the "left" wants to remove it all
-"Judeo-Christian" tradition.
-Referring to how supposedly if "Gay Marriage" is legalized it will be the end of the US Constitution as we know it, and how we're close to being a "socialist" country.

Honestly, as both a Christian, and a human being I was offended by this garbage.

What I love about this argument is that Al Sharpton's primary goal has always been economical and education improvement in poor communities, which is the core of black on black violence. I seriously wonder what they expect him to be doing instead if that doesn't count as "caring about black-on-black crime."

Honestly almost everything he says sounds like Shake to me, but it's mostly when he gets into one of his insane yowling rants then runs out of breath, pauses, and says something quietly. He goes from 'I WILL RUIN THIS BIRD WITH MY ANGER' to 'you don't own space so quit acting like you do.'

Every single one of them. Seriously. I can't think of one that hasn't.

My favorite crazy right wing talking point on the case is that Zimmerman isn't white anymore than the president is because they're both only half white so this isn't even a racist thing unless you think the president is actually white too. It's an amazing bit of mental gymnastics.

One of the reasons I like this thread is that I'll see what I think is a random sprinkling of crazy quarantined in a comments section somewhere -- in the case of the above 'Zimmerman = not white; Obama = white,' buried deep in the 3000+ comments of a Mike Huckabee Facebook post -- then other posters will note seeing the same thing, and voila, I realize it's a talking point.

I genuinely think RWM as a whole essentially has "marching orders" for stuff like this.

A few key figures in the radio game say it, it gets disseminated through Fox and blogs. And then becomes legitimizes by repetition in the national discourse.

Its a giant pre-conceived system to create memetic defenses of policy almost instantly.

Personally, I'm thinking Glenn Beck. Several people linked to an article on The Blaze to try to prove their point about how blacks are the real racists. It also sounds like his whiny "But wait, why isn't your heart bleeding out for these other tragedies? You're the monster, I think" style. But I haven't been following Beck or Hannity or Drudge or Limbaugh throughout this, so that's just guesswork on my part.

During the election somebody pointed out that Drudge has (or had, can only hope for had) a lot of sway. Drudge puts up a headline, it gets picked up by the talk radio guys, congressmen, and Fox News is the last on the bus.

I dunno about Al Sharpton in particular, but it's not exactly hard to find black community leaders who want black-on-black crime to go down. (Or for that matter for the N-word to fall out of use entirely.) But to know that you'd have to actually pay attention and give a poo poo about what happens to black people for real instead of pretending to in order to frame a political talking point.
