Maybe you can get in touch with the companies and ask if they've looked at your resumes?

You seem like a smart guy so I'm assuming you've done this already but just in case.

I'm trying to get my OCS packet done but I STILL haven't taken the ASVAB. My recruiter gave my info to a new guy to put in the system on my first day there and he put my last name as my first and my first name as my last. Meaning when I got to MEPS to take the ASVAB I couldn't take it until my name got fixed. Which requires some sort of forms being filled out. I called them today, 2 weeks later, and it STILL isn't loving fixed. I already have my 3 letters of recommendation, they're good ones too, turned in my security clearance form, and I can't do anything else until I take the ASVAB.

How the gently caress does somebody gently caress your name up. My first name is obviously a first name and my last name is obviously a last name. It's not like my names Eric Ryan or some poo poo with two first names. gently caress. I just want to get this poo poo done. And they gently caress up the simplest of things. God drat.

My middle name is Philip. The Army spelled it Phillip for over four years. I had them fix it at least 30 times.

I have a bit of a weird question.

I was contacted by someone's superior officer, in the Army Reserve. They sent me an email to my gmail account with 2 different "report for duty" forms. All of this soldier's personal information was on each of these forms (except his phone number). The phone number to the Unit Administrator was on the forms as well. I called this person and told him that he had reached the wrong person and I wanted to make sure the guy was aware that he was to report to duty. The administrator told me "oh ok thanks you can delete that email."

Now, that's fine and all, I have no use for this guy's personal information. But, I feel he should be aware that someone is sending it out to the wrong person on the internet.

What should I do? Who should I contact? I have looked for a phone number for the soldier in question but I can't find one. Should I contact some military overseeing unit? Or..?

I wouldn't worry about it. Once you join the military all of your personal info might as well be public record. I guarantee you there are unshredded documents in someone's desk drawer with my social, DOB, address, you name it and I've been out of the Army for almost a year.

Well the irritating part is MEPs won't let me take the ASVAB until my first/last name are in their correct positions. And the ASVAB is the only thing holding me back from progressing through to the next step of my OCS packet. Possibly causing me to miss the August OCS board.

And the weird thing is last monday I went in to sign my 'projection' I believe it was called but my recruiter wasn't there like he was supposed to be, it was another guy. And he said my name was fixed and my recruiter would call me to setup an ASVAB test date. He never did and when I talked to him he said my name still wasn't fixed.

I just can't believe one illiterate mofo can gently caress something up for nearly a month. That or my recruiter is just blowing smoke up my rear end while he does something else.

Your first mistake is assuming that there is only one illiterate mofo involved. Your second is believing that the recruiter is working this as opposed to just blowing smoke.

3 year active duty service obligation upon enlistment for WOFT. Upon completion of Warrant Officer Candidate School there is a 6 year service obligation

If applicant does not complete the Warrant Officer Candidate School they are still obligated for the remaining of their enlistment option

Worst case scenario happens, would they stick you in something decent because presumably your ASVAB, etc. were already high to get into WOFT, or is it more of a "enjoy 11B, washout" kind of situation?

Needs of the Army. They'll *try* to put you into a MOS that takes advantage of your security clearance but it's a roll the dice situation. Not necessarily 11B bad, but perhaps some obscure undermanned maintenance job or something.

I heard from a bunch of flight warrants that it's not bad, but they also advised a guy I knew to avoid injury because it's the #1 disqualifier.

Warrant officers are mostly prior enlisted and some are hellaciously stupid and fat.

Be wary about putting down open anything, because odds are you'll get something you don't want. Make sure you get what you want in writing, even if it means waiting a few additional months in DEP. I wouldn't do it, especially if you're going active duty. It's 4 years of your life in which you won't have a great deal of control over things, so you might as well get yourself on the path you want right now.

And don't go 6F unless you want to hate your life. It's finance for all of you playing at home.

edit: Fun side-story, I went to BMT with a guy who scored 99 on his ASVAB, and put down open general. They gave him security forces.

Do not go open anything.

Okay, I'm going to MEPs some time in the next two weeks (my recruiter is being a bit flakey on when, said it'd be a week five days ago, and then called me today and said it may need to wait another week). What should I expect I'll have to be able to do, if I want to get some last minute work in because while not the most unhealthy, I am thin and lanky and not a swole person.

If the Air Force had one ideal body type that they want everybody to be, it's "svelte marathon runner". I'm not sure which branch you're going for, but you'll be fine. It might suck at first especially if you don't have any real conditioning, but it'll end up to your advantage.

Oh, right, I'm going Navy. So I should just focus on doing some running for a few miles between now and then? I'd really rather not embarrass myself. I fully expect bootcamp and everything to suck with my lack of conditioning, but hey, it's either this or debt.

Edit: also, I've been discussing both medical and intelligence stuff like Goons suggested. Which should I really 'want' more? I want to end up going on to be a nurse later, but I've heard a lot about how the Navy Hospital Corpsman don't get a lot of time to do online schooling while in service, and banging out a year of school would be nice. Would Intelligence (Crypto?) stuff be better for that?

I really don't want my future to be screwed after watching two older brothers screw up themselves and their families, and I'm super nervous over this stuff still.

I would, because any bit will help. Also for upper body and core, https://www.hunderdpushups.com and https://www.twohundredsitups.com are very good programs, and there are Android/iOS apps for both that track your daily progress and can be used to time your sessions. I use both of those for PT test preparation. Include some running, but take it a little bit at a time and don't get frustrated. Some conditioning is better than none.

You're going into the fattest of all the branches. Navy folks get pissed when they have to run more than 50 feet. The Navy thread is full of crying over PT. Don't sweat it.

Navy PT is a joke. If you can't do the situps or pushups someone will lie for you and say you can. You can't fake the run, but a mile and a half in 12 minutes is what you should aim for. This will vary based on age and gender. Focus more on not hurting yourself than getting a good time. Runners knee and strained ankles will gently caress you over a lot more than failing to get your time before bootcamp.

Also unless you want to be a marine in the Navy (FMF specifically) then I wouldn't go corpsman. There are a couple HM in the Navy thread, and one of them really hates it. Crypto is a nice cake job. CTR/IT will get you a 4 year contract, or you could go CTN for 6 year if you don't want to be on a ship. If you love computers go CTN, if you hate computers don't go CTN.

I assume 'cake job' is off the 'piece of cake', and refers to a nice easy job?

Because man nice and easy would be great I am a lazy rear end.

Six years is a long time though for CTN, is there any additional benefit to it besides not being on ships? I mean if it's a really good job for me wanting to do college classes while still enlisted that sounds great, but otherwise that'd raise my time to 'settled into a life style and have my nursing degree' age to 28, assuming I get none of the four years of school done.
