But seriously, I don't condone Kanye or anyone assaulting people, but god drat it has to be loving annoying to have the paparazzi follow you EVERYWHERE you go. Can't imagine that's good for your sanity.

That's the best part about the whole thing. He was clearly right. That Beyonce video has become a classic, you show anyone a shot of just what Beyonce wears in it and they know what song / video it is.

I can't even remember what Taylor Swift song that was or what happens in the video.

BOSS BATTLES DID NOTHING WRONG
It's just ridiculous that every single year, one and ONLY one ridiculous thing happens at the MTV Music Awards, and then goes viral all over the social networks used by MTV's target demographic. It's perfect on-brand viral marketing that fits MTV's "wild and rebellious" image, and there's very little chance that it isn't staged.

I think the Bruno leak was just a fluke. Most reality shows are fake, too, but somehow people don't realize it.

The Beyonce video did end up being the most famous one, but I remember the first time I saw it my reaction was "Oh, another music video where the artist dances in front of an all white background", its not exactly this great injustice that it didn't win.

And even if it was, lets not rewrite history and say it wasn't a huge dick move for Kanye to do what he did.

His mom died in 2007. 808s (which was in 2008) was the album most closely linked to that, most people would agree. MBDTF was pretty beyond it, I think. The Taylor Swift thing was in 2009, so you can't really say it was the same time period.

And the Taylor Swift video sucked. It's appealing to the lowest common denominator of geeky-but-wannabe-pretty middle and high school girls and it literally tells the story of the song in the video. Just like her music, it's incredibly derivative and easy.

Best part for me was that Beyonce did win Video of the Year and it became really obvious that the only reason she didn't win Swift's award was so she wouldn't just sweep it.

The immaturity of Kanye's outburst flowed from his expectation that the MTV Video Music Awards would actually attempt to grant award the best artists / works, instead of cynically handing out awards so as not to alienate the all-important tween demographic. (Whether there was also a racial component to this award politicking is a question best left to the reader.)

Most of us gave up on the integrity of awards shows long ago. We tut-tuted the way that Kanye, like a spoiled child, loudly demanded that the award for best video go to the best video.

What I've heard of Yeezus has been pretty disappointing. I like the direction the music and production has gone but it seems like Kanye can't get out of that "sacrifice lyrical merit for a funny punchline" gimmick that Li'l Wayne made popular. I mean I could be wrong, but it's a shame because Kanye is one of the best out there in mainstream rap.

Also can't find that Black Skinhead video that was claimed to be leaked, like, anywhere anymore.

I think its a pretty huge dick move to interrupt someone's acceptance speech to basically tell them they didn't deserve the award. Because Kanye is internet music nerd golden boy right now people wave it off with "Well she didn't deserve the award anyway" as if that was the point.

With how much of an institution Taylor Swift has become in pop music, the Kanye diss really seems minor and kind of funny now. Well, it was always kind of funny.

I don't think many people here will defend the outburst. It was incredibly juvenile.

However, most people here, being Kanye West fans, remember Kanye's subsequent attempts to apologize, and the seeming sincerity of those apologies. They may also remember the grace with which Taylor Swift accepted Kanye's apologies by performing a passive-aggressive pop song about the incident at the 2010 MTV awards.

At the end of the day, I find it hard to care that Kanye West said something rude to an incredibly rich and somewhat talented singer four years ago.

Kanye's always been this way, he just had more lyrics so it sounded more "conscious". Yeezus is more threadbare and minimal lyrically so the corny punchlines standout more in the context of the song.

First of all, I don't have Flash installed, so the website doesn't work in my browser of choice. I opened Chrome just to watch it. Second, sliding the +/- slider just made the video reload and buffer and I didn't see any other differences. I pressed the Instagram button too but I'm guessing because I don't use Chrome to log into my poo poo nothing happened.
