Welp it's Sunday night which means two new Goon Rival challenges. I'm away from my main computer so I don't have the graphics for them (will edit into this post later), but they are as follows: On this challenge I will be scoring dirty and clean laps equally as far as leaderboard position; however, clean laps will get +5 bonus points to your points total. Final standings for the previous two events are: code:
Finally, submissions will be open for all previous challenges Thursday, Aug 1 through Sunday, Aug 4th @ 10pm Eastern US. If you missed out on a couple challenges that will be the time to post some times! GentlemanofLeisure fucked around with this message at 03:01 on Jul 30, 2013 |

First times, I have no idea if these are good or embarrassingly bad! Probably going to work on the Nurburgring time most, I hate R1. Also going to work on not buying the Porsche DLC.

I can find at least at least a second at Road Atlanta, I think. Maybe I'll try a couple other cars just for fun, but the R8 is one of my favorite R1 cars. For the Ring is it just 1 standing start lap? or can you do a flying lap? Well I'll just put my standing lap time for the Ring now as it works nicely with the car rige1seven [SAEG] Porsche 911 T - 09:11.666 (Clean) EDIT: 'Ring - BMW M3 - 08:58.930 (Clean) Flying lap [#3,440] Road Atlanta - Mazda 787B - 01:10.120 [#5,590] kaiwero fucked around with this message at 09:04 on Jul 30, 2013 |

What view do you all use? I've pretty much used hood view since I bought the game over a year ago, but lately I've been going through a crisis after I realized that I'm probably faster in third person. I kind of hate the way the car handles (and sounds) in third person, so I am pretty much just having a conflict inside my head as I change the camera 10 times each race. Add that to the fact that I'm woefully mediocre and you have a recipe for disaster!

There's a car or two where the cockpit view gets weird, and the road surface starts to get blown out (Sebring is particularly bad, for instance. I wish I could remember which cars this happens in.). Then I'll switch to hood.

Then I'll switch to hood. The 787B can be unusable from the cockpit on Laguna Seca, but only sometimes. I'm not sure yet why this changes. All cockpit all the time here. Third person is entirely unusable with a wheel, it's just weird, and hood doesn't allow one to "feel" the size of the vehicle well IMO.

When I first got the game I exclusively used cockpit view. During one of the community bounty hunter autocross events, Fuzzie got me using hood camera and I was able to get between the cones quite a bit faster. I then tried it in circuit racing and I was faster there using hood cam as well. I know it's not as cool as being in a virtual cockpit, and it took some getting used to judging where cars were around me, but I got used to it and I'm faster using hood view. To me, third person is weird because the car seems like its rotating on its axis a bit more than actually turning. Really there is no right way, you've just got to try the different options and find what works for you.

Protip on Nurburgring: When you start your first lap, immediately go backwards to a little bit before the beginning of the straight. That way you can, in essence, have a flying lap on your first lap. Just make sure not to go off when you're turning around or you'll end up dirtying the lap. Basticle posted:90% of what I drive is B-R3 For what it's worth I strongly believe it's easier to drive R/heavy downforce cars competitively (or at least in a closer range to honestly fast people) than it is to drive F-A cars competitively. The terror discrepancy a real person would feel in real cars of these two types doesn't exist in Forza. The tiny mistakes you make in regard to corner exit speed/braking zones in slower cars cost you huge seconds, where as minor slips in things that can go 0-100 in 2.7 seconds are much less damaging to your overall time. Momentum is the #1 most important thing in slow cars, whereas understanding and correcting wheel spin is the most important thing in fast cars. I'm not saying R cars are "easy" to drive, just that the range variation that skill gaps cause is a smaller spread than on slower cars.

In R1 I find throttle control and confidence in the brakes are very important. The brakes in an R1 actually work and don't send you off the track when you're marginally late, and feathering the throttle instead of going straight to the floor keeps you from spinning out when accelerating. It sometimes helps in an R1 car to be in one gear higher than you think you should be when accelerating, to avoid wheel spin.

# ? Aug 1, 2013 01:16 |

Also cranking downforce up all the way helps a hell of a lot as well with R1, at least on Atlanta I didn't notice any loss in top speed on the long straight but it made the cars much more planted in the faster corners (the esses especially).

New time for the ring: And a terrible time for the old A600 event: I tried doing the F100 event too, but apparently I just don't get F class racing. Tried about a dozen cars and probably close to 100 laps or so between all of them and the best I could do was around 1:43 or so.
