It.couldn't be removed like that though, you have to remove the airbox and then wiggle it up and out while trying not to ground it out on the metal. actually, you could. the inner fender liner has a portion that comes out to access the battery. I still defend this as a not so terrible place for the battery. It puts the weight right over the drive wheel and more importantly keeps it further away from the engine heat, which is what ruins batteries. How often do you really need to get to the battery? Once every 5-7 Years?

That's not THAT far from engine heat, and at least in AZ I've owned more than a few vehicles that kill batteries annually or close to it. If there's ever an application to switch out a lead-acid car battery for a smaller lithium ion pack, that's it right there just to make it easy to get in/out. Only problem is then the battery would be worth as much as the rest of the car.

Short, long, it doesn't matter. It does seem to vary with how well protected the battery is from heat - the two longest-lived batteries I've ever experienced were in the trunk of a Miata and under the backseat of a W210 E-class.

They have jump start lugs in the engine bay that are connected directly to the battery wiring. Source: Drove an '02 Intrepid for a couple months. 3.2 V6 was pretty peppy.

The diesel was around for a couple of years and they made over a thousand of them. I've actually seen quite a few up on craigslist and ebay, but yeah they're terrible and only worth owning for the novelty. I'll stick with my V8 Mark VII, it already gets decent highway mileage.Pham Nuwen posted:You know what should be a hanging offence? That's funny because I bought a 2000 Ranger from a mad momma. Her son kept getting the car impounded so eventually she sold it for the tow fees ($1200). That was about 5 years ago and I'm still driving it to this day. I also agree that possibly the only lesson being learned here is that his mother is not reasonable or compassionate.

I suppose it's possible that an AC system that starts leaking as seals dry from disuse might become airtight again if it's refilled and used again; but unless the car was parked with working AC, then started up again a year or more later with dead AC, that definitely isn't what is happening.
