Here's a stupid one. I need to see my primary care doctor about something*, but getting an appointment within the next couple days is proving difficult. My insurance makes using a different primary care/family physician office a pain in the rear end, so I can't really change doctors quickly to one who's more open, either. (At least, not while having coverage for said visit.) So I figure tomorrow I'll find a nearby walk-in clinic and ask them to take a look. Is there anything I should know about finding/picking one, like insurance issues, quality, cost, anything like that?

* if anyone cares, it's a rash on my wrist. Kinda looks like it might be scabies but ~internet diagnosis~ and all. Itches like a bastard.

Does your health plan show what to do for urgent care visits? Have you called your doctor office/provider to set up an urgent care appointment? Health plans vary wildly obviously but you should still be able to set something up so you only pay a copay instead of a walk-in fee.

Right-to-work is a union thing and has nothing to do with this. What you're describing is at-will employment.

I don't know about bees --> other insects (helpful, right?), but I'm allergic to ants and NOT bees/other insects. Presumably, for people who are allergic to bees, it could go either way.

I went to a restaurant on 7/19 and spent 34.60 on a chase visa credit card. I was just on the chase website today and saw that charge (listed correctly as happening 7/19 and processed 7/21) + 2 more charges from the same restaurant both happening on 7/26 (processed 7/28). One for 34.60 (same as I spent) and one for 23.xx. These 2 charges were not at the same time on 7/26 I don't think because I can see other charges I actually made that day between them.

I called chase, they are reversing the charges and said they will contact the restaurant. They said it was probably a billing error on the restaurant's part.

Can they (restaurant) really have an error that charges me again for the same thing as well as another completely different number a week later? Or are they possibly involved in some kind of fraud? This place is brand new and kinda sketchy in a few ways. Should I call the local police at all in case they really are up to no good and doing this to others? Or let chase/visa handle everything?

I did have chase cancel my current card # and send me a new one just in case.

E/N: I secretly would like to hasten them going out of business and get someone else to take that building. Ruined my bday dinner. It's a bbq place, I was carrying-out, took 45 mins, place was not busy at all, bbq takes 10+ hours to cook so it's not like they were cooking it right there for me. The food was terrible, one thing I ordered was 1 lb of sliced brisket, I got maybe half a pound, the bulk of it was 2 pieces sliced like an inch thick by a blind person doped up on oxys I'm guessing. The rest was 3 little bitty misshapen pieces. I also asked for a large order of fries, they asked how many people I was feeding in reference to fries, I said 3, I got about 10 french-fries that were all soggy and limp. Didn't notice any of that until I got home.

I've had it happen before, and I would say it is probably incompetence. The owner probably won't be happy losing that money and will track down the problem.

Next time I'd suggest calling the restaurant first. I was double charged a while back and when I called to see what was up, the manager refunded both charges, which was a nice surprise.

Double-charging could be an accident. Charging a different amount is either fraud or unbelievable incompetence. However, Chase customer reps aren't going to get into it with you, so they'll choose the most benign explanation.

I would tell people you know not to use credit cards there, though.

If they're nice sunglasses like a name brand you can buy replacement arms. Most retailers can order them for you. Otherwise an optometrist office might be able to fix them but its probably just worth buying new sunglasses.

Sometimes, when I'm doing something cardio-intensive like biking or running that requires heavier breathing, my throat will start to burn. I don't have any difficulty getting air. The only symptom is a strong, stinging discomfort in the back of my throat. It's especially bad during colder weather.

I usually just ignore it and keep doing whatever I'm doing. No permanent damage thus far. Is this normal? I've never asked anyone else about it before.

If you're going to do that, I really can't think of any good reason not to just write it down in plaintext. It's a safe deposit box, no one but you or your next of kin is getting in there.

Also 1 of 2 external hard drives with a good backup on it that you swap out every x days. Keep your animus until you're 75. (If you can find a player for them.)

You aren't legally allowed to store guns in safety deposit boxes.

Cloud backups are easier and I don't have to worry about hardware failing.

Edit: Looks like it isn't illegal, but my bank's rules don't allow me to store guns in my box.

It'd be exceedingly odd to buy an apartment in America. You will see buildings going co-op or buildings being condominiums straight from the start, but buying a straight up apartment tends to only be done in fancier buildings and by people with a lot of money.

It's simply expense and that whole housing bubble thing. Renting is just cheaper.

However buying a condo or house or whatever is not odd at all and the majority of people do it. One would not buy an apartment in an apartment building though.

Landlords make money by doing basically nothing, why would they sell their source of income? Also home ownership is the American Dreamtm. Owning your shitbox apartment just seems like giving up to most people. You can't mow your own lawn, or make additions and lots of other things that typify some vague notion of the freedom of a 30+ year mortgage.

When you rent, you're generally not responsible for any major upkeep. Plumbing sucks? Call the landlord*. Leak in the roof? Call the landlord*! Sometimes, even monthly utilities are covered by your rent payment. When you want to move out, you don't have to worry about trying to sell the place to recoup your investment; you just pick up and leave, and it's on the landlord to fill the space again.

Rental is better for people who aren't ready to settle down or who aren't financially stable enough to maintain an entire home by themselves.

*Some landlords don't give a poo poo and only do whatever maintenance is legally necessary.

Condominium complexes, as far as I know, are managed by condominium associations. They have rules delineating what you can and cannot do to your condo so as not to destroy the property value, harm your neighbors, etc. They can punish you for breaking the rules. It's just like a home owner's association.

As far as basic architecture, there's no difference. Apartment buildings can be converted into condominiums with minimal renovation, and vise versa.

Because there's no reason to buy an apartment, outside of a co-op situation or being rich. It doesn't get you anything to justify doing so, you end up becoming responsible for some things that you aren't as a renter but don't get anything in return.

The number of Americans who plan on still living in their apartment 10 years in the future is close to zero. (I guess NYC would be the exception.) Also, how broad is your definition of 'flat?' I'm a US citizen and I would call all or part of a rowhouse/townhouse a 'flat' in a definition that's mostly nonoverlapping with the ideas of apartment and condo. Edit: and I would call a unit in a non-apartmenty 4+plex a flat. Wait, what's a brownstone? There are too many kinds of places to live.

I've just gotten a safe deposit box and I'm interested in this question too. What's the obvious, anyway?

Another banking question: what constitutes a legally valid check? I asked a banker and he said you can't just write out the necessary details on any old piece of paper. He also said that the magnetic-ink encoding isn't what makes the difference, since it's relatively easy to buy the machine and ink to do that and many non-bank businesses do. So what's the crucial detail?
