First off, Dinklage is incredible and verbally spars opposite amazing (and tall) actors all the time. As far as physically sparring, he has massive sentinels backing him up. Why would he "go up" against anyone himself?

Secondly...why does his height matter? Like, at all? Sure, Oldman would do great. You know who else would do great? Peter Dinklage.
The point I was making is that I would have preferred someone with a commanding screen presence to assume the role. Dinklage just doesn't have that, in villainous roles or especially when competing with the likes of Mckellen & Stewart on screen. Given this, the eventual confrontation with Dinklage's character onscreen with said actors will probably fall flat, in terms of tension. We'll see how it turns out, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Very well, to pose a physical challenge, Dinklage will hop into a Sentinel and drive it like an Iron Man suit or Mecha. Dinkinel vs the X-Men.

:fuckoff:

Oldman is great, but Peter Dinklage is far from just "some dwarf" - he's probably one of the most talented actors working right now. I have serious, serious doubts about Days of the Future Past, but he's one of the reasons I may give it a shot.

Hell, he rocked it on 30 Rock, and that's just one episode in a network comedy show. (albeit, really, one of the good ones) Even the people who don't like GoT have to admit he's good, right?

Though the upside is this thread is now prompting me to watch The Station Agent, because Dinklage is easily the man.

If Dinklage is 'some dwarf', Oldman is just some dude. You don't have to be tall or hulking to command a scene. Jesus christ, do you just nod along sternly when people demean his stature in GoT? "Some dwarf." That says it all.

If there was any correlation between "commanding screen presence" and physical stature, then Dustin Hoffman would be an extra and Andre the Giant would be an Oscar winner.

Sorry guys, it's plain to see that a dude of short stature making 5 story tall humanoid killer robots has no dramatic potential whatsoever.

Why couldn't Triple H, Chris Benoit or John Cena play this part?

Nope, he's in the Captain America movie. I'm pretty sure it's just his availability and how much effort whoever is making the film is willing to put in. Since he didn't cameo in First Class or either of the Wolverine movies, I doubt he's going to be in the new X-Men, but who knows.
