Maybe I'll still being able to score some of the year round stuff from West Lakeview since their online shop is up now. Atlanta, while obviously not as good as Chicago, is hardly a beer wasteland. There are some excellent bars and solid stores in the area, and while I'm not their biggest fan there are also two pretty big-time breweries in the area between Sweetwater and Terrapin.

I wouldn't mind living near Terrapin. In other news there's a 16th Bend brewery opening in two weeks -- Oblivion Brewing, which is founded by some old-hand brewer at Firestone Walker. Which is nice and all but I really don't think we need yet another basic-line-of-ales brewery any longer.

The Drew Carey show had them making microbrewed beer in Drew's garage, they were visionaries! I'd love to go back and watch those episodes now that I've worked in a brewery, I'm going to have to hunt them down somehow.

So, when Kudosx met up with me in KC he brought me some Edmund Fitzgerald and I was super pumped. Little did I know that the mixed Ohio 6 pack held the real treasures. Columbus IPA was a citrus bomb and Siberian Night may be one of the best RIS I've had. You Ohio folks may not get the high abv bombs, but you've got some great stuff. Thanks, Kudosx!

The carbonation is completely out of control, though. Any casual attempt to pour it rewards you with monstrous amounts of sticky, clingy foam. At the very edges of the aftertaste are a bit of phenols, but overall its a really delicate Belgian pale.

Didn't get tickets to the great taste, but I'm thinking about going up to Madison on Friday for one of the many interesting pre-fest events. A trip to NG would definitely be in the cards. Finally watched Drinking Buddies tonight with some friends. Disappointing, with such a cast [Olivia Wilde].. But it was so much fun calling out all the local beers and seeing the revolution guys, and the empty bottle. In support, opened bottles of citra ninja, TV party, very mad cow, crystal hero and Orange Truffle Abduction.

Perfectly Cromulent posted:Yeah, but Denver is like 20 times the size of Bend. And I think we have like 150 breweries in the state with quite a few on the way. And maybe 20-30 of them aren't on the Front Range. I do get that Bend is much, much smaller, but the brewery space here is getting quite crowded as well. And there are several that are really unremarkable and that have opened in the past 2-3 years. It's kind of sad because these breweries are making solid beers but it's just your every day kind of session ale and they often don't to much to riff on the style, but at least they make good hangout spots. The problem is that just by sheer volume the bar around here is pretty high. I'm just saying, I wouldn't be surprised if there were still even more session ale breweries on the way for every market out there, no matter how crowded it might seem. Bag of Sun Chips posted:I really wish I could move to Denver already. Falling Rock and Crooked Stave are calling my name. And those are really only a few standouts, although to be fair Denver proper does have some room for improvement. The thing is that there are like 20 more really good or excellent breweries within about an hour of Denver and a few more nestled in the mountains that make this state incredible for having good beer unique to a region basically everywhere you go.

The idea of this beer, which was blended into XVI IIRC, gave me the idea of doing a "bomb" with a chocolaty/roasty stout with some tequila, probably poo poo Cuervo Gold. It was pretty loving awesome though and I plan to age a tequila in my oak barrel to age a stout in it to try. It's only 2L though. I thought it went together. I wonder how a Gose would go in a tequila barrel though. Especially with lime added...

I only just now found this thread! Im fortunate enough to live in Asheville NC so I've got an awesome selection of local micros, plus oskar blues opened their second brewery in the nearby town I work in. NC recently started allowing breweries to fill growlers apparently, what's the consensus on using them? I never bothered buying any from the stores and I've heard its a crapshoot as to whether the beer will stay very well. I've been keeping Oskar Blues Old Chub scotch ale and whatever I feel like at the Rome from Highland Brewery in the fridge, and Ten Fidy stout when I'm feeling fancy.

Has anyone tried Carton Digger? It's a gose with cherrystone clams and lemongrass. My local bar just got a keg, but a bad experience with Bud Chelada makes me weary of clam beers, regardless of brewer.
