My biggest complaint with TC and AP is it's really boring to do that with the universe they have; the only reason is to look for better trading stuff instead of finding cool wrecks or anomalies and things.

Unfortunately its been pretty well confirmed you can only really pilot the one ship. But you can probably control a fighter-type drone.

You can only ever pilot the one ship, but you get control over various types of drones (fighters, bombers, probably other stuff that hasn't been shown yet). Flying the drones is supposed to be like flying a fighter in X3, its just not game over when you die. Capital ships are still in but again not under your direct control. You can land on them and give orders to the crew. I understand the logic behind the changes, cap ships are pretty boring to actually steer, but it remains to be seen how it plays.

The running around outside your ship in this (and I bet this is how it ends in Star Citizen) looks suspiciously like station interior docking in X2: a feature added for 'immersion' and coolness that just became loving annoying because it broke the pace of gameplay and added nothing of substance so everyone just skipped it and it was dropped in the next game. Likewise the 'one ship' thing is because if you look at X3 the way virtually everyone plays it is to buy their personal favourite ship and then sit in it forever while organising everything else remotely. So just put the player in a ship that they can pay to customise the way they want at the start and work on improving the remote control interface. That being said I love the X games, but they need some simplification. Mods really make the game tolerable by simplifying some of the tedious aspects of the game. Actually loading and transporting all the factories in a 100+ factory complex is just not fun, buying and equipping 60+ fighters to fill up a carrier is not fun. The information so far seems like both those things are streamlined. You buy a complex shell and fill it with factory modules, instead of connecting factories with tubes. With drones you can get a fighter in a discrete package that is hopefully easy to manage and replace.

The spaceship games looks freaking amazing even if it will not be quite the same scope of fleet management as X3. I'm not sure how I feel about tacking a FPS/RPG onto the game though. Hard to imagine they have the resources to make a great spaceship game and also make Mass Effect at the same time.

Okay, interest renewed. Looks like sectors will be entire systems maybe, much like Freelancer? The Albion Pride is our ship. Neat... I will rename it Serenity and pretend to be Mal. Also the ship designs are really cool, and the one at 2:16 reminds me of a Battlestar. As much as I will miss piloting a ship like the M7 Cerberus, at least we can still run an empire from the Albion Pride, which isn't a bad looking girl. e: Ugh, release date so soon? I am going to be spending alot of money on videogames, money I should be putting aside for maintaining my new (albeit old) car. e2: So can we customise how it appears, or is that as is? I was initially concerned about the ceaseless radio silence from Ego on X:R, but now I'm actually kind of glad they spent that time apparently polishing everything to a mirror sheen. I still have bad memories of the X3 launch and how obviously rushed to release that heap of a game was. I know a lot of folks are annoyed that this isn't just X3:TC with new shinies, but an overhaul to this series has been a long time coming, and it looks like Ego have put a lot of work into making Rebirth its own game without any of the previous games' baggage.

It looks amazing; the one thing I've noticed that is a little disappointing is that it seems much more human-centric than X3. You're tied to being the pilot of the Pride of Albion, and all NPCs we've seen thus far are human. Wonder what's happening with the other races...
