Got some good advice that if I wanted to up my listens and responses: don't force people into a full 80 minute mix. To that end, I've put together a 'mini-mix' I'm real happy with that's under 30 minutes. Going to try to commit to bi-weekly new releases, but we'll see how that goes. r/beatmatch has a monthly challenge, where ou submit a 15 minute mini-mix following the theme. This month, I had to use tracks from producers with small followings. I recorded a 140 set the other night. The first half is all chill, Tempa-style dubstep, and was unplanned - but everything past the Shpongle track, the little itty bit of trance and the obnoxious aggro dubstep is from a playlist I've been playing around with. Two decks only a 'friend' still needs to return my 1200s... so, I'm a beginner with Ableton, and have a giant 3 hour list of party music I basically want to "mix" together in a very rudimentary way. (smoothish transitions, maybe some beatmatching, maybe some intermediary short clips bridging songs) I've started looking into how I'd do this with Ableton, and it looks like a gigantic loving pain in the rear end for the like 50-60 songs I have. I'd spend a week on this, easily, and it still probably wouldn't sound great on account of my never having done this before. Anyone have any suggestions for like "easy mode" mixing? Worse case I could just use a media player and set transitions, but I'd ideally like it to sound a bit better than that. I've seen Traktor thrown around on other forums, but not sure if it's worth a look...

Without having used Ableton at all, I'd say: Don't do 50 songs on your first try. Do 5 at the most. Then 5 more. Then figure out a way to mix those 2 new mixes into 1. Proceed, one small bite at a time.

You won't have to do much if any per-track prep as it usually nails the beat gridding. Right tool for the job. Ableton can be used for "DJing" but it's really not it's strong suit for this exact reason

What kind of music is it? If its top40 sync in traktor will screw up the tempos. Also without some sort of intro and outro you will get really messy transitions. You might just be better off playing them through windows media player or itunes or whatever. Even if its electronic do you want to babysit traktor for 3 hours? Maybe virtual DJ has something. I just have done fade in and fade out points for the songs at this point in traktor, and I guess I'm going to set it on cruise control overnight and record the output, then mp3 it up? it doesn't sound good, but it sounds better than without any transitioning at all - some of the songs drag on way too long or have dumb intros. I can't believe after all this work, there's not a way for me to just like 'render' a playlist with cues and all. I'm literally going to have to like use ableton or some audio program to record my master out. this is so dumb. (or I'm dumb, one...)

iTunes will fade your tracks together, just do that. Nobody will notice. Although unless you're "playing DJ" and hovering over the laptop someone will inevitably try to hook their iPhone up to your audio jack so they can play something else.

I got to play at a real party at Burning Man. 5pmish, hot afternoon, the DJ before me was playing some progressive house and smoking hookah. The bar was serving drinks to passer-bys, and a dozen or so people were hanging out at the bar just doing the typical burning man bullshitting. At 6ish pm, I took over and about halfway through, I realize that the amount of people at the bar and hanging out has at least tripled. poo poo, there's even a handful of people in front of me, dancing!
