Okay, so the trailer for Bad Grandpa played before I saw Elysium tonight, and I'll admit, I chuckled at it a few times :shobon:

It still doesn't look nearly as funny as any of the Jackass movies, but I'll go see it and hopefully get some laughs out of it.

Trailer for the new Clooney written/directed movie The Monuments Men. About the real life story of the US Army's Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives program during WWII which was charged with finding culturally significant works and keeping the Nazis from blowing them up.

It has a hell of a cast with Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman, Bill Murray and Jean Dujardin.

Haha at 16 seconds in there is a shot of the Ghent altarpiece by the Van Eyck brothers, the bottom left panel (The just judges) is missing because it was stolen in 1934, it's the big 'unsolved mystery' in Belgium, with every year a new conspiracy theory cropping up, usually involving hidden rooms in churches etc.

Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure the idea for a movie solely on "Bad Grandpa" was because of the success of Borat and Bruno.

It seems like anybody who thought about it too hard didn't enjoy it, but I really liked it. Saw it in IMAX and visually it was one of the most interesting and beautiful movies I've seen all year. The fight scenes are a lot of fun, especially later on. Sharlto Copley essentially plays a Metal Gear Solid character and it's hilariously awesome. Matt Damon is a good fit for the lead and turns in a solid performance. There's loads of atmosphere to be found in the movie. It almost reminded me of movies like Soylent Green at times. It's a nice, short little self-contained sci-fi flick without much filler, which is exactly what I wanted out of it.

Some trailers amplify your already sizable appetite for a movie. Others catch you off guard by letting you know a filmmaker or star you like has something new coming out that you didn't previously know about.

Still others just hit you from way out in left field. You never heard of this, you never heard of anybody involved with this, you don't even normally seek out this kind of movie (in this case, documentary), but you watch the trailer and you want it YESTERDAY.

Guess which one this is.

What an odd trailer. Three quarters of it is "My god, look how epic / exhilarating / intense / captivating these images are," and then the last quarter is "a personalized profile of a boy-on-the-brink."

I really liked Jaa's old gimmick of there being no wires, no special effects, no stunt doubles. Looks like they are going the cgi route (for the explosion at least, wonder if it bleeds anywhere else).

If this movie doesn't feature an elephant getting thrown through glass I won't be happy, I'm already annoyed that the US cut of the first one cut that scene out.

Playing it in the trailer doesn't necessarily mean it will be in the film. However, "What Is and What Should Never Be" was used to great effect in Silver Linings Playbook, so it might be in there.
