I live in NC and I have seen the horrors that I NEVER thought would visit this state. What I have yet to see is the dystopian results of these new policies. gently caress it, I can't even bring myself to feel sorry for TX. We're going down the hole here. The only thing I can hope to hold out for is a rebound. And gerrymandering has hosed that to DC and back. I guess I shouldn't complain, because we weren't the first. Just the worst. I want to say that the populace of this state will rebel in 2014, but I lived through 2010 and I hold out no hope. Someone hold me. I wanted to Occupy. I wanted to rage against the GOP machine when Prop One passed. I want to stop them before they frack this state to pieces. But the damage is done. Teachers: not wanted or welcomed. Taxes: Not fair in the least (sales taxes hurt the poor but NC will NOT raise sales taxes on YACHTS. YES, YACHTS!) And, the poo poo cherry on the poo poo cake, Voter ID laws that will make the gerrymandering look like a tender caress. gently caress this country, gently caress this state, gently caress the GOP, gently caress the Dems for having nothing to counter with. Someone make me feel better without saying, "Suicide won't hurt."

Republicans are generally perceived as the party of lower taxes and if someone just paid taxes then they would be more likely to vote Republican (in theory). The whole list is just a recipe for wielding a disproportionate amount of influence as their numbers continue to fall. It's also pretty short sighted. It's built around their current problems and not considering that Democrats could take state governments or control of their special committee nullifying regulations after these are passed. Not that they'll ever be passed either way.

On the other hand, you're right - that's more "maintaining a lovely status quo" (like we see anything useful come out of Congress anyway  ) than it is "completely flushing our government down the toilet," which does make it a lot better than the rest of the list.

Do you read articles from publications like "the American Spectator?" Then you're in less of a bubble than they are. Although that was a fascinating look at how one becomes convinced of the strong support of the Silent Majority. Here are thirty articles which agree with Levin's thesis, and you can tell that they are accurate because they come from the luminaries at NRO, WSJ, and the Washington Post.

I'm really hoping this gets online soon because I don't even believe I just saw it. Fox was covering the Oprah Swiss racism thing and I knew it'd be great. The format was two white ladies and a black woman of course, and the black woman started off saying 'well it's silly that the Swiss president made a statement about it but Oprah discussing casual racism is good on the whole' and then everything went nuts. The two white ladies both start going "HOW IS IT RACIST?!" and the whole thing became about how racist is REALLY the worst thing to call someone, and got so bad the black woman had to legit stop saying 'racist' and say 'the r-word', and it basically ended in them making her apologize for saying 'every day racism'. loving amazing.

I've been saying that calling someone or something racist is more "offensive" than actually being racist (as long as you avoid a few specific words) for a while. Many white people, especially those that are in the upper levels of society (politicians, TV personalities, etc) are so absolutely clueless about racism since they typically aren't affected by it negatively that they have convinced themselves it doesn't exist anywhere and thus any claim to racism must be some sort of scam.

Rush has really been dog whistling the 'Oprah experiences casual racism' story. He actually just made the argument that because Oprah's story happened in Switzerland, which is inhabited by rabid leftists  , that liberals are in fact the real racists. I read this argument all the time on FR but it is another thing entirely to hear it broadcasted to millions of people

I'm just amazed by the idea that those Founders 220 years ago that came up with the three fifths compromise were brilliant but, those guys 100 years ago who passed the 17th Amendment were complete fools and probably communist, socialist, marxist, nazis. So even though the original was perfect, we just need these 11 amendments, that no Founder would have ever agreed to, to make it even more perfect.

Grew up on Boortz, caught my first bit of Herman Cain's radio program yesterday. During the 'Rapid Fire' segment callers get a minute to get their point across. Caller one claimed to be an inspired by right-wing talk radio truck driver that had called several prominent democratic senators and representatives, as well as Obama himself and left messages regarding their political and personal hypocrisy. He shared with Cain his frustration at never having received a call back and that he was 'nothing' ostensibly to the regime. The only believable part of the story was possibly the "I'm a trucker" bit. A subsequent caller was upset that the Affordable Care Act was being referred to as 'Obamacare', as if Obama cares. How could Obama possibly care??? His novel suggested fix? Call it 'Obama Don't Care'. Why not 'Muslimcare' or 'Commiecare'? Cain also went on to talk about his latest daily column: There is no such thing as the middle class Funny (or clever?) how even the actual URL itself omits reference to the 'middle class'.
