The godawful Steam forums say otherwise. I've updated all drivers and everything. I don't see why it shouldn't work. An ATI HD6970 isn't exactly a rare graphics card. There's been suggestions to switch to windowed mode and/or to edit the config file to get around it, none work.

I was getting the blank screen issue at first, and managed to solve it. It was one of two things for me, I'm not sure which. I'd gotten a problem like that with a game before. Far Cry 3 would hang on startup, and eventually I found out that this was because I installed it on my external hard drive rather than my primary hard drive. Once I installed it on my primary hard drive, it worked. I did the same thing with the Inauguration Station, and it worked fine after re installing it on my primary hard drive. Now, I don't know for sure that was the problem. It may simply have been that it simply had not installed correctly the first time and re installing fixed the issue.

Starhawk64 posted:I always thought the reason the Boss changed from being a sociopath in SR2 to being a heroic jerkass in SR3 is because he/she wanted to clean up the Saints' images and the fact that according to Female 1, the boss has been seeing a therapist. I attended a game design panel where one of the designers for SR talked about this. He basically said that after SR2 they got a lot of feedback about how players felt a little bad about being a complete rear end in a top hat to one gang in particular that was just trying to be there and the Boss rained hell on them for no good reason. They realized that even though they were having the players be the bad guy, if they had the players actually play out as bad guys instead of anti-heroes, it was less fun for at least some of the players. That's why the Saints are comical rear end in a top hat anti-heroes instead of honestly bad people.

The only person I ever felt bad about the boss killing was the bartender during the Ultor raid. But then I realized I ran over sixty people on my way there and got over it.

The boss is really more anti-authoritarian than anything, like a fun-loving Robin Hood with no sense of collateral damage.

The Boss just knows that they're in a video game and therefore they don't have to take poo poo from anyone, and there are basically no consequences. (sorry, Carlos)

Boss still kills people who are just in the wrong place in 3. The poor wrestlers whom were suppose to be at Murderbrawl all got killed just so the Boss can take their place instead. Granted only one of them talked as his car got processed and drove over people and then a gas station.

I'm sure it helped with the marketing, but it didn't do the game a lot of favors. Voice actors: better at sounding sexy than actual sexy people. To be fair, that bit with Killbane was partially because of THQ putting the kibosh on a number of plot elements that would've made the last choice in SR3 a difficult one to choose. Killbane was supposed to have nuked Stillwater at some point, but it got axed.

She was really just one more example of the writing team packing a bunch of new characters into their game and then having no idea what to do with them. The DeWynter sisters were completely useless characters, Viola was uninteresting and Sasha Grey was completely boring and bored in the role. The Waffle Guy Whose Name I Don't Remember did nothing, either. He was set up as "The Bad Guy" and then he gets killed off-screen in a gag cutaway. I thought the game spent way too much time with Zimos too, so much so that it kind of detracted from the other characters.

Wasn't for the fact he still has lines if you called him up as a homie, I would figured he actually got killed off at some point in the story and wasn't shown.

You can sort of see that they were trying to emulate SR2 to some extent while leaving Shaundi, Pierce and Oleg free to interact in all of the storylines Angel was the contact for Killbane, meant to make the fight against him a little more personal. Kinzie was the contact for fighting the Deckers And Zimos SHOULD have been the one for the Morningstar, but the Morningstar doesn't have enough of a presence after they kill Philippe (and then Viola kind of takes over Zimos' role) Pierce, Shaundi, Kinzie and Oleg ended up being the ones most important to the overall story. From what we've seen, SR4 seems to be handling its characters better.

And that's why there are two separate Morningstar districts.

The Luchadores and Deckers as they are, then the Morningstar were going to be all male and the fourth was an all-female faction. The sisters were Asian and Zimos was going to be the supporting character who delt with their faction (ala Pierce for Morningstar, Kinzie for Deckers, and Angel for Luchadores). Is there an article or blog or something somewhere where you learned this stuff? I think this this sort of thing is super interesting and would love to read about all the different concepts they considered while designing the game.

For what it's worth, I think at the very lest the celebrity castings in SR3 did quite well. The issues with Angel and Viola were more inherent in their characters than their performances. I knew Hulk Hogan was in the game, but I didn't realize he was Angel until he called me 'brother'. Judging by the credits, that might've been because they had Troy Baker coach the non-professional voice actors, which is a good idea and a practice that should be done more often.

So there has just been a pretty major update to the steam page for Saints Row IV. Not only is the metacritic score displayed and the Season Pass available, but the countdown appears to have been changed. It is showing three days and three hours for me right now, which would put the game's EST release at midnight rather than the previous 3:00am. Is anyone else getting the same countdown? If so I am very excited because a midnight release makes it far more practical to start playing Monday night, and will make it feel like the game is coming out a full day earlier.
