B. When the Taurians came and dropped their bombs on Sirdar, they were not met with the lamentations of a people bemoaning their fate. They were met with the steadfast faces of men held high, unfaltering in their duty to protect their home and hell-bent to fight tooth and nail for every inch of it.

B And Jesus Christ, the Taurians really start it off by brekaing out the nukes? Well they better pray they win and that Hanse doesn't decide they gotta go after this. Throwing around WMDs willy-nilly is kinda frowned upon in the Inner Sphere.

That, and Hanse is too focused on fighting the Clans right now. Oh yeah, did anyone notice that in the political update with the Jade Falcons, the Falcons got beat the complete reversal of tactics the Draconis Suns tried right after Luthien (When they thought they would still be fighting the Hell's Horses)? Instead of tanks out in front, mechs behind, we have big wall of mechs in front, tanks behind. Well, that and no dug-in positions.

Nukes are merely the taurian way of saying hello, they are well known for nuking pretty much all the time, if hanse breaks out the nukes in turn it will look like weakness on his part. "Can't handle them peripheries without breaking the Ares eh Hanse Boy?" <- some smug lyran social general.

I'll throw in a vote for V. Also, I'm not even sure why the Taurians brought out the nukes. The SJs certainly didn't need them to annihilate a Edo with a warship, and the 6 NAC 30s, as well as its huge missile batteries, the Vendetta mounts should have been fine. The fact that the Taurians are technically trying to capture the planet makes it even weirder. Also, I thought the whole ignoring the Ares Convention thing was the threat they used in regards to possibly getting invaded again, rather than simply using them in military conquest.

The enthusiasm the Vendetta is displaying in its tour is revenge for the era of genocide and oppression starting with the foul Reunification War and ending with the assassination of Thomas Calderon (this is the era of the Concordate's rise!). It'd be nuking worlds regardless though. Readingaccount fucked around with this message at 19:33 on Aug 16, 2013 |

The Duchy of New Syrtis is already at war with the Capellans and the Taurians nuking worlds on a different front is going to make it very difficult for New Syrtis to keep Liao from absorbing them. Especially since the Capellans are moving troops over from their fight with the FWL. Though it is kind of amusing that despite the scaling down of troops the Capellans still managed to expand their territory in the FWL this round of updates.

Uh, here's some stuff on major plot threads off the top of my head: -The CC and FWL are at war. In this timeline, the FWL is the faction most hostile to ComStar, as the Captain-General is Duncan Marik, while the CC seem to have a head start on tech compared to everyone else. ComStar's finger is probably in this pie? -Anastasius Focht (a fake name used by Tor Miraborg, not Fred Steiner) killed pretty much all of the First Circuit with the help of Precentor ROM and installed Precentor Tharkad as Primus. They fought the Clans from the start, realizing what they were right out the gate. -The Rim Worlds Republic has an Amaris. They are up to some serious poo poo. He has ties with ComStar.

-Caesar Steiner is trolling the clans by informing them of Inner Sphere "tactics" including Steiner Rules dueling.

3033 in Review (including some events that happened off-camera or haven't benefited from any real detailing yet) - The Clans Invaded (the Widowmakers destroy the Gray Death legion) in 3032 - The Kell Hounds unwittingly improved Federated Suns/Draconis Combine relations - Maximillian Liao started a domino effect by killing a Mercenary colonel's wife; which eventually resulted in Mad Max's death - Clan Steel Vipers captured Andrew, Adam, and Caesar Steiner - Duke Lestrade and Frederick Steiner successfully assassinated Katrina Steiner - Heimdall was badly compromised by LOKI - Melissa Steiner (posing as her own body double (posing as Melissa Steiner)) married Clovis Lestrade and Skye seceded from the Lyran Commonwealth - Melissa's body double (posing as Melissa (posing as the Red Corsair)) helped Duncan Marik recover the Helm Memory Core (and stole a lot of `Mechs in the process) - Tor Miraborg launched a ComStar counterattack to find out whether the Clans were using the HPG network (they were) - ComStar tried to interdict the Clans by virus-bombing a portion of the HPG network. The Clans already had the basic countermeasures since the virus was originally designed by the SLDF - Clan Sea Fox killed the protagonists of Far Country. A mild hallucinogenic substance of unknown origins infects some of their warriors during the battle - Although the bulk of their `Mechs were destroyed, the groundwork for the Rasalhague Resistance was laid. Joshua Widow was driven from the field in disgrace, infuriating ilKhan Natasha Kerensky. - The Free Worlds League fought the (potentially overextended) Capellans to an eventual standstill - The New Rimworld Republic allies with House Marik against House Liao, and assumes peaceful control of Andurien - Luthien fell to Clan Hell's Horses, Khan Lair Seidman was killed. His ancestor, Grier Seidman, replaced him. Takashi Kurita was killed. - The Draconis Combine officially surrendered to the Federated Suns. Looking to salvage as many fragile Samurai egos as he could, Hanse Davion renamed his realm the Draconis Suns; alienating both Duke Hasek and Duke Sandoval. - The Kokuryu-Kai, a Kuritan Nationalist Movement, begins open recruiting - Clan Hell's Horses announces their withdrawal from the invasion, invites Clan Jade Falcon to take their place. - The Duchy of New Syrtis secedes from the Draconis Suns, launches raids against the Capellan Confederation - The Steel Vipers discuss peaceful coexistence with Skye - The Capellan Confederation launches an invasion of the Duchy of New Syrtis - Theodore Kurita seizes control of the Kokuryu-Kai - Philip Capet's Solaris Championship Title goes uncontested as his competitors all eliminate each other. The rest of the Inner Sphere pays this virtually no attention. - The Steel Vipers, Star Adders, and Cloud Cobras begin work on a joint project; the result is the King Cobra BattleMech and another, smaller design based on the same overall structure. - The New Rimworld Republic launches an invasion of the Free Worlds League, but is resisted by forces who's orders had suffered "unfortunately delays" due to ComStar technical issues - The Clans become aware of the New Rimworlds Republic - ComStar's unexpected technical issues were resolved, allowing rapid redeployment of Free Worlds League troops to the Capellan and NRWR borders. ComStar's official stance is that the delays were caused by a previously unknown outside force; possibly the Clans - Clan Snow Raven, Clan Sea Fox, and a small contingent of Clan Ghost Bear abandon the invasion of the Inner Sphere and set out to kill Stephan Amaris - Clan Goliath Scorpion, Widowmaker, and Hell's Horses scramble to find replacements - The Steel Vipers, Star Adders, and Cloud Cobras form a new political bloc to fill the power vacuum left by the departure of Clan Snow Raven and Sea Fox. - The Draconis Suns begins a counterattack against Clan Hell's Horses - The Capellan Confederation uses the Draconis Suns' persistent bureaucratic issues to take advantage of the Draconis Suns counterattack to steal technology from the Clans - Jannike Kurita-Davion seizes control of the Draconis Combine's bureaucracy, smoothing tempers and communications errors that previously hindered the Draconis Suns' rapid redeployment - Under pressure from Duke Sandoval, the Outworlds Alliance joined the Draconis Suns as a protected state under the Draconis March's watchful eye - Carlos Marik nearly reveals the building Free Worlds League counterattack by launching an ill-planned strike against Capellan forces. - Carlos Marik becomes trapped behind enemy lines. - Protector Calderon is slain by Capellan aerospace fighters while on a diplomatic mission to visit Duke Michael Hasek, on Duke Hasek's invitation. Investigations by the Taurian Concordat suggest that his dropship was abandoned by its escort from New Syrtis. - Thomas Hogarth makes a movie to promote Lyran/Skye relations and has been dispatched to Skye by Frederick Steiner as an ambassador - The Taurian Concordat launches a full-scale invasion of the Duchy of New Syrtis, catching several Capellan forces in the crossfire And some other, minor happenings. That Melissa shell game is one of the more interesting plot threads hanging around out there. I figured what with Lestrade gone and the more reasonable Frederick in power, they wouldn't need to keep up the ruse? Also it's really fascinating to see the history just laid out like that. It's a well-woven history, which manages to hang together without seeming contrived or overly-narrative. The influence of player action is obvious but also subtle and unexpected at times. Kudos.
