Really should think about getting a UPS." : "Well, at least we're in the datacenter building, so that backup generator should be firing up now any second." *faint sound of main generator starting up* *nothing happens* : "Ruh roh." *30 seconds pass* *much louder emergency backup generator fires up, accompanied by faint smell of diesel exhaust 'cause it smokes like a bastard when it starts* *nothing continues happening for several minutes* : "Welp, fuckit, it's after five anyway" Fortunately, generators are Not My Job, but apparently the generators were working fine, just the automatic transfer equipment failed. They were able to operate it manually so no outages, but I'm of the firm opinion that when the generators fire up, it's time to .

Long-story short if you can smell poo poo that means there are tiny poo poo particles in the air landing in your coffee and then entering your mouth. Does your coffee taste extra nutty after you take it to the men's room?

I vaguely recall having a drunken discussion with an acquaintance of mine a month or so ago about a position that might become available working for archdiocese schools in the area. I must have been really interested because he sent me a message yesterday that the position just got approved and I should send my resume in. It would basically be support for several of the schools in the area. I'll probably spruce up my resume and send it their way and see what kind of response I get. My pal told me the salary range and it could possibly be an extra 10K over what I'm making now. I don't hate my current job in the least bit, but I do like the possibility of a sizeable pay bump. I'll see how I can play this out.

Lets talk asset tracking. Anyone have a recommendation? IT manager is getting a little overwhelmed, and before offloading, we need to get out of the excel spreadsheet.

IT puppy is currently sitting in my office for the second time, drinking some water and eating some leftover sandwich. This time whoever keeps leashing their dog in my datacenter is getting a talk from their supervisor. Yay my recent promotion. Or i might just steal the poo poo outta this dog, its adorable as gently caress. I like the idea of useing it to deliver bad news to end-users. EDIT: CS related dog names?

The two things that shocked them most about the US were 1) dogs in the office ("Does every office in the US have dogs?" "No.") and 2) the lack of paid parental leave. #2 really blew their minds.
