As Niggurath said, in the OP for my Witcher thread I simply stated that every video is NWS to some degree as well as every video having a NWS warning for the first 5-10 seconds. Hell there have been several moments so far where nipples have shown up and I've left them alone since I can trust people watching won't throw a fit if they decided to watch past the warning screen at the start of each video.

Let's Play Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay Description In this prequel to the Riddick movie series we experience his time at Butcher Bay, events which were mentioned but never shown in the films. It's a combination of hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and first-person shooter. Style I'll be playing through the fairly linear story, collecting some of the cigarette packs - but getting 100% of these is not really a priority. Schedule One or two episodes per week, which won't interrupt my current Defense Grid and World of Warcraft LPs. Feedback/Suggestions/Participation I love feedback - even negative comments are appreciated, that's how I improve. If you want to see something specific definitely mention it ahead of time, but there won't be any voting on storyline branches or characters. Spoilers Please don't spoil the movie series. This is a prequel, so I don't expect everyone following the LP to have seen the movies. For events in the game please use spoiler tags if you really must discuss something ahead of the LP. Is something wrong with your upload? I can't seem to get it to load. As for Butcher Bay, it was made because Vin Diesel, a big nerd, was sick of movie games sucking and decided to make his own I always liked that piece of trivia. EDIT: Never mind; YouTube was having a hiccup. Video's just loaded- looks good so far. Nice to see you getting into the game so soon as well, but something's wrong with the picture. It looks like you're recording from a cellphone or a camera- blurry and bright. CommissarMega fucked around with this message at 18:58 on Aug 22, 2013 |

A few of the textures look a bit blurrier than I'd expect on the 720p which is odd, but the 1080 seems fine as far as I can tell - was there a specific part that was bad? Edit: I consulted some friends and they couldn't spot an issue either so I'm going live with the thread. It's still so weird that all the brutal throat stabbing in Far Cry 3 is considered totally SFW and needs no warning. But digital nipples?! Even so, Witcher 2 has enough explicit sexual dialogue and implications that just censoring nudity is not going to make it comfortable family viewing. And if you're really worried about youtube, making a seperate account and just posting the "offending parts" on there sounds a lot easier than rebuilding your entire channel.

Let's Play Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is the smaller scale, portable spinoff to Final Fantasy XII, and you know that's also about the best way to describe what to expect from it. Most all focus on world building and exploration is gone, to tell a simpler, shorter story more focussed on it's characters. The plot shares little with the original FFXII, and in fact the largest common thread is the characters. Because of that, it's accessible to those not familiar with the original. Gameplay wise, it takes the systems in FFXII and converts them to a real-time strategy setting. I find that the strategy is a bit light, and there's a few large differences to FFXII's combat, and so i'll explain the combat and my feelings about the combat more as they come up in the Let's Play. Spoiler policy: Let's not ruin the plot of this game for anyone, so no to spoilers. But, spoilers for the original FFXII are fine if you put them under spoiler tags! Prologue Things I want feedback on: I used a lot of GIF images, they don't hurt anybody's internet too badly, do they? I'm worried about filesizes. Also, I directly transcribed the in game tutorials, but reading it back, it sounds a bit clunky... or is it just me?

I'm not too keen on all the dialogue being in bold, but that might just be a personal thing. The other thing is that some of your GIFs seem kind of sluggish, like when Vaan swings his sword in front of Balthier and when the latter tosses the crystal over to him. I can't remember if they're that slow in the actual game. Did you cut a lot of frames to reduce filesize for some of them? Other than that, I love Revenant Wings, so it'll be interesting to see how a LP of it goes, especially a screenshot one.

Agreed on the GIFs seeming sluggish. It'll be a couple of hours before I can offer more detailed advice, but I'm guessing you're trying to make the GIFs at >30fps causing browsers to slow them down to a crawl.

Howdy, folks! Having searched through the archive and all the pages of Let's Play, I couldn't find any LPs of Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor. Seeing as how there's an ongoing LP of World of Xeen, I thought this would be an interesting look at how the series developed, for better or for worse. I have a pretty huge amount of content for the first update/two updates, having played through the whole first level, but I'm not gonna post it all, just some random screenshots and stuff to see if you guys have any stylistic critiques. I doubt he minds, though. Just email him with the thread link and if there's anything specific you want done to it just detail that. One of the ideas I've been bandying about in my mind for a thread was a "Let's get better at playing..." thread. The idea would be to pick a session based game like Rogue Legacy, XCom (strategy versions), Binding of Issac and others and then have a group of people LPing the game and posting videos or screenshots so the thread can give them advice on items, strategy, enemies and whatnot. My concerns with doing something like this would be near blind runs of games, possible frustrating to watch gameplay, and the fact that the thread for the game in the normal Games forum would probably provide much the same advice. The best I could think to alleviate some of this is to have a main LP of the game in the thread that doesn't require a ton of advice, so if you don't want to watch six people go through the beginning stages of a game asking for help you can watch the "skilled" playthrough and still get the idea behind the game. I think there's potential in the idea, and would probably be similar in organization to the Bad Games, Hard Games and Race threads, but I could use some help thinking out the exact mechanics here, or even advice on if it is a good idea.

Lazyfire posted:One of the ideas I've been bandying about in my mind for a thread was a "Let's get better at playing..." thread. I for one would love to see the 'proper' way to play Roguelikes and stuff like AI War or (dare I say it) Unlimited Saga. Not just discussing builds or whatnot, but going right down to the stuff that would be blindingly obvious for a seasoned player but not so much for newbies. The Roguelike megathread a while back was great, but it didn't spend enough time per game and didn't go as indepth as I would've liked.

I may still do a couple videos to give the thread some early content. I'll see if I can find time to work on the OP this weekend. I really want to kick this off with Rogue Legacy, so it looks like I'll need to contact the Cellar Door guys to see if it is cool to do that. Edit2\/\/\/ Yeah, I thought by limiting to a game at a time there would be less "Help me get better at all games ever" in the thread and fewer people posting one video and not getting any attention. That may be too specialized which is why I was posting here to see if people any ideas how to get this working best. I also like the rotating game idea. That's pretty good. I like this idea too. As a fan of Roguelikes and games that tend to change from session to session, this is certainly something I could get on board with. If I'm reading it correctly it would be an open submission thing? I think it would be cool to submit videos of attempts at being the hottest indie rogue like or what have you and letting the thread guide you, applying their advice and trying to improve as weeks go on. It may get a little messy if a lot of people start contributing but it may also be really interesting and fun. Edit: Oh, it was going to be game specific? That may substantially reduce clutter and things like that, then. You could even do a monthly thing? Perhaps you can chose a game each month or let the thread vote a few days prior to the end of a month on what game we'll all try and get better at next?

I talked with Cellar Door about doing Rogue Legacy as part of the LP and they are totally cool with it. Teddy Lee posted:Yeah for sure. So I'll try and cook a quick OP up tomorrow along with a starter video and I guess I'll hope people want to play Rogue Legacy better once the thread goes live. Rotating games seems like a cool idea, and wouldn't preclude going back to any single game a couple times if the thread wanted it. I'm a big believer in easypolls.net after the Black Ops 2 thread, so I'll solicit suggestions on which games should be considered for the next time around for the first week of each new game and then on the second week release the poll, with the current game always having a spot in case the people playing or people suggesting things want to see it go on. The poll would start on Monday and end Thursday evening, giving Friday through Sunday for people to record and edit starter videos for the next game. Is there anything I'm missing, or any mechanics people think need to change to make this work? What about the inclusion of games that are just hard, like Ninja Gaiden or Dark Souls? Should we consider competitive multiplayer games like Chivalry or Battlefield? What about Zombies mode in Black Ops/2? I was going to let the thread suggest and decide, but I guess there needs to be a set of parameters.

Finally got a chance to put this together. Criticism, complaints, tips? ----- Background Game Dev Tycoon is a game development simulator from Greenheart Games. The game was inspired by Game Dev Story and allows the player to create and publish games starting out in the 1980's. Relive gaming history while starting out from your garage solo and work your way up to a gaming legend. LP Structure and Viewer Participation Since Game Dev Tycoon is a simulation game, it helps to collect data about the games. Unfortunately, the built-in data collection is mediocre. I decided to do my own and will be using it extensively in the LP to aid in decision making. Viewers can also play around with it here. Creating the games will be influenced by the viewers. All games will be based on a viewer suggestion. Usually, just any interesting game idea will be used to the best of my ability. Overall, these games are data points to understand the game mechanics better. Every 7th game has a different purpose. For those games, viewers propose a Big Bet which is a challenge that I have to try to beat like "Get a game in the top5 on a new system". If I fail to meet the challenge, I get a penalty which is also proposed by the viewers. Stuff not to talk about Don't just tell me how all the mechanics work in the game. The act of discovery and learning is the fun bit of simulation games for me. Episodes VivaVizer fucked around with this message at 04:44 on Sep 1, 2013 |

I also think multiplayer games are neither here or there, I'm not sure if it would work well. I do think games like COD Zombies could work because it's something you can visibly chip away at because as you climb round numbers you're proving you can get further than you did before. Any game that shows visible progress after a second attempt or session would probably be a good choice for the thread.

Most people tend to just do it with whatever game they want to LP, so maybe pick that first. It'll give you more relevant experience, since most systems/recording methods are slightly different

Pick a game you know really well too - it'll help with the commentary quite a bit since you won't have to focus on gameplay very much (and hopefully interesting and relevant facts will just come to mind).
