Yes. Unless you marked it as a gift, there will be a place at the top of the download page to add on to your purchase amount and push it over the average.

This Thursday at the Medowlands in Hartford CT is Funny or Die's Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival. Headliners are Dave Chappelle and Flight of The Conchords. Also performing is Jeff Ross, Al Madrigal, Demetri Martin, Kristen Schaal, Hannibal Buress, and Brody Stevens.

I can't loving wait! :neckbeard:

I just got back from the show and for the most part it was enjoyable. Al Madrigal had a good set with a bit about how the Daily Show is making him pick up more on stuff that's racists and pointed out the Golden Corral Commercials and Dmitri Martian was great. Flight of The Conchords was good but I'm sure someone who follows them more could describe how great they were. I did get a little :smith: after Kristen Schaal's set when she ended it with "Well, I'm not much of a fan of observational humor and apparently either is Hartford." I though she was good but her better bits won't fit a 15 minuet set. I felt a little bad for her...until Dave Chappelle came up.

So you know why one of the reasons Dave stopped doing standup and his show was people would go to his stand up shows and just shout catchphrases from his TV show at him? First ten minuets that's what people in the crowd were doing. After fifteen minuets of trying to get them to quiet down and getting a few jokes done he basically said "Screw it, i'm obligated for 25 minuets and once that's up i'm out" And started to talk to a few of the people in the crowd. After that people started to leave and boo. A few people who were walking past me were shouting "You Suck" And such. Most memorable shout from the crowd at Dave gave up was "I go to collage, I paid for this."

I'ts clear once he knew he couldn't get the crowd to shut up, any joy he had doing comedy was just sucked out of him and it really sucks to see that. :smith:

If anyone who works on the Tour or performs on the tour reads these forums. Just please tell him to not give up and I hope the other shows aren't like this. On behalf of CT I really am sorry. It's rare I feel ashamed for my home state but here it is.

He did a few last minute surprise shows in the Bay Area a year or so ago and I so wish I could have snagged tickets to any one of those shows. I'm not saying that no one would have yelled out a catchphrase at some point, but for the most parts, the audiences in San Francisco and the general area seem to be pretty cool. I like to think it'd be no different for him.

I guess what I'm saying is I hope Chapelle has at least a couple of places he can do what he loves without having a dickish audience.

It sounds like it was a large portion of the crowd, not just a couple of assholes. Also I imagine it's tough when a bunch of rich white kids with zero introspection shout catchphrase from your show that involve the N-word.

I saw some of the videos on an article earlier, either Laughspin or Splitsider or something, and it was literally 100+ people yelling RICK JAMES BITCH or I WANNA TALK TO SAMSON or whatever.

Honestly if you've read Steve Martin's biography, it kinds of has a similar tone to it. He eventually got so big he was playing giant stadiums and the crowd would just scream out WILD AND CRAZY GUY or whatever at him and it was a big factor in him starting to hate doing stand-up.

It'd be one thing if it was just a couple hecklers shouting random poo poo. I think it'd wear on you if people consistently screamed the same poo poo at you from 10 years ago when you're trying to do something different. Hopefully it doesn't happen in Detroit. He's had good shows here in the past, and I can't even remember a comedian getting heckled here, except for Charlie Sheen but don't think that counts. Wouldn't expect it from Hartford.

El Gallinero Gros

People shouting "I'M RICK JAMES BITCH" is a bit different then people telling him he sucks. I have no doubt Dave could shut the latter down. If I were Dave, at this point, I'd ask them to post a sign outside the entrance saying those who shout things will be asked to leave. That might sound a little fascist but the man wants to get back to work and these idiots won't let him.

I was wondering why this isn't an option, too. Even just an announcement saying not to shout out stuff from the Show, specifically.

Or Chapelle could even just address it at the top of the set.

Everybody who actually cares about comedy understands the problem and why he would hate it, I think he's earned the right to be upfront and ask that one thing of his audience.

Chappelle is attracting an audience that doesn't really follow stand-up. I don't know if he can avoid it unless he just does smaller, alternative venues.

If word got out Chappelle was doing sets at UCB, the audience would quickly shift from what it is now to the douches he's trying to avoid. It'd damage the venue.

Unless he did alt venues randomly and unannounced, maybe that'd work. I know he did a tour through the South recently that had little to no advertisement, maybe it succeeded.

The cynic in me thinks, even in UCB there's going to be at least a few people shouting at the guy. That'd be far better and more manageable than other venues, but still annoying.

Dae Chappelle quit doing comedy partly because of hecklers. It's not that he can't shut them down, it's that he doesn't care about shouting them down and would rather not do comedy than deal with drunk assholes.

That's what they're doing tonight at the Pittsburgh show. The Oddball twitter account said that heckling gets you immediately thrown out, and of course a bunch of idiots replied about how Dave Chappelles a crybaby because he doesn't tolerate people interrupting his show by yelling poo poo at him. In their minds it's alright if you yell "positive" things. :psyduck:

Agreed. It was sort of the equivalent of a band trying to run through a few new songs but everyone's yelling out "Even Flow". Chappelle is an odd duck in some ways. My wife and I saw him a few years back and he went into like a half hour bit about "The Game" that he warned us ahead of time "wasn't funny". It was poignant and correct but it seemed to put the audience off a bit and then, when he was done, he said "I told you the poo poo wasn't funny."

It's gotta suck to be trying to perfect your craft and have unfunny retards yelling out bits while you're trying to work. To bring it back to Dice for a moment, at a certain point even he had to deal with assholes yelling out nursery rhymes at him and poo poo like that and gently caress if that wouldn't get old quick. No one hollers at Cosby to go into his dentist routine while he's working. Or for Chris Rock to talk about Niggers and Black People.

Hecklers suck and I understand why comedians get loving tired of assholes who've had too much to drink interrupting their show. They should be horse whipped and ejected on the spot. There's a place for hecklers and wanna be comedians. It's called a local bar.

FEAR MY SHARK ROCKET IT REALLY SUCKS AND BLOWS
Saw the Oddball festival last night and Chappelle spent the first 10 minutes making fun of himself for the Hartford incident. He said "When I got home I said to myself 'Ohhhh poo poo...I pulled a reverse Kramer'. But seriously, you guys have no idea how hard it is getting heckled by a bunch of dudes with crocodiles on their shirt."

It was a genuinely great performance. Some scripted stuff, but a lot of off the cuff remarks as well. He really is a great comedian, it's just a shame he has some issues. :(

On the other hand, I am a huge Flight of the Conchords fan and they were TERRIBLE (Detroit show if anyone wants to agree/disagree). I really think you have to be a fan of theirs to "get" them and their style. But they didn't make it any easier on the people who hadn't heard them before by choosing a bizarre setlist. They have a lot of pretty easily accessible songs (The Humans Are Dead is one that I think pretty much anyone can appreciate the humor in), but they did songs like "Song for Sally" and a really bizarre version of Rhymenoceros vs Hiphopopotamus.

I'd say they were pretty much universally panned last night, but there was a dude behind me that was REALLY into it and laughing obnoxiously loud, including a constant sputtering laugh, and a loud "YES!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!" with every song. Weird.

Did the venue/promoters make any effort to tell the crowd not to heckle or were you guys just a better crowd? I heard the immediate show after Hartford had to put up signs and the show went off without a hitch.

Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth had some funny Tweets about the incident. Called the Hartford arena the worst venue in the country and said a promoter told her that it only sells out for DMB and Pearl Jam.
