A vendor cant really just change the code base, tho they could change how the reference it, but you would still be left with a interesting situation when you have to explain that to check the secondary server you run the command "show slave status;".

So yeah, it would be a really bad idea (and inexplicably sloppy, imho,) to NOT password it if you have dangerous tools accessible, or users who're prone to trying to take matters into their own hands. That makes sense. I guess I was just a assuming that both the user and admin passwords would be set. The concept of a user having to enter a bios password every time they booted their computer for normal use seemed really inconvenient.

I remember a kerfuffle many years ago about the same terminology being used for IDE hard drives. The problem is that the Master/Slave relationship is not inherently racist and goes back FAR beyond our country's history. Anyone who finds an appropriate usage of the Master/Slave relationship in technology inappropriate needs to grow the gently caress up.

People aren't working on Monday. If you want to expect something to be done on Monday, feel free to be disappointed. In other news, I really hate people sometimes. Our build system has an issue where if you put an add-in card in the server before the build, the build will screw up and you'll have to fix it manually. The build system will assume that the PCI add-in card is actually the onboard card, and vice versa, and nothing will work until you log into the crippled box and fix it. It would be REALLY simple to fix this if we'd enable biosdevnaming. BUt no. We won't, because apparently our support monkeys are too stupid to know what to do when they don't see eth0, eth1, etc... This is why I call them monkeys, btw. So now, the only real way to fix it is to script some logic in cobbler, which our build guys refuse to do, because "its too hard." In fact, I hope they still keep pulling this poo poo, because my boss is working really hard to get server build automation moved back to my team, which will make me very happy.

A client called. Um, I think one of the email alarms is going off. Alright, what does it sound like (Our servers don't have actual, audio alarms. They can beep, but that's about it. I thought it might be a UPS that was reporting a dead battery, because those will beep and be annoying until you tell it to shut itself. Um...It sounds like an alarm I guess. ...OK, I'll be right over. -- I walk into a building that definitely has an alarm going off, because you could hear it through 1 floor and probably 500 feet of rooms and poo poo. A 140db alarm is blaring from the server room. Turns out, the building alarm system was wired poorly by whoever put the alarms in and opening a door somehow 'broke' it and so that monster had been screaming bloody murder for the last 25 minutes across the entire building. At least it wasn't my problem. Canine Blues Arooo fucked around with this message at 22:15 on Aug 30, 2013 |

Our disk image modifies bios to set a PW (pw just to access bios setup) and remove everything except hdd0 from the boot order. We have bit locker full disk. I always assumed pw + no cd/usb boot was a sorta weak but why not 2nd line of defense for a situation where a laptop went missing then later on a bitlocker vuln was discovered.

Pretty sure I brightened up some comcast tier1 supports day. I just received an arries modem/router combo because my old modem was not DOCSIS3.0. Installed it, raged a little bit at the web GUI, and I figured I wouldn't have immediate time to get it put in bridge mode so I'd have to use the built in wireless. So, a few hours later I get on the phone with their tech support to bridge the modem, it went something like this: Comcast tech support how can I help you? Need my modem put into bridged mode Ok let me log into it give me just a minute... ...waiting... (laughing)What is this? hold on a moment I need to talk to a co-worker politely sitting on hold He finally comes back after a minute or two with a couple people in the background laughing That's a darn fine network name you've got there (Could hear someone in the background repeating the network name) Oh... yeah.. I was a little angry earlier, glad you guys could get a good laugh out of it The network name? gently caress You Comcast He proceeded to bridge my modem and was very pleasant! *edit* for content uh... all of you 3-day weekend people make me sad, I'm working a 10 today at the helldesk, and then 8 hours on monday of helldesk...
