The first time I listened to it on vinyl I was well aware of the locking grove but was still caught with my guard down when I sat there fore 30 minutes going "This is a really weird drone track, 30 minutes of just this one noise over and over again...?" until I realized my error.

Crossroads on 35th and Hawthorne in SE is great, tons of different vendors with varying prices and selections. Just up the street is Exiled on 47th and hawthorne. Goof selection of weirder stuff, but they can be pricey. On 34th and Belmont theres a new place that i cant remember the name of that shows promise. They have a looot of rare stuff too. Everyday Music has two locations, one downtown on Burnside (I can't remember the cross street, sorry) and one on 20th and Sandy. Very hit and miss, but they get so much poo poo that its a different selection everyday. I've heard good things about Future Shock on E Burnside and 20th (a few blocks from Everyday on Sandy), but I haven't gone in yet. NE and north have a lot of stores but that's not really my hood so I can't really say much besides check out Mississippi Records.

Oh and if you like punk and hardcore check out Discourage on 14th and Morrison in SE, lots and lots of rare stuff there for reasonable prices.

Although I am "not buying any more records" I found this yesterday and had to pick it up.

The vinyl itself looks like new, don't know that it was ever played. The obi will be saved for posterity rather than chucked.

The Japanese name of the album is "娼婦たちの晩餐" ("Shoufutachi no Bansan") which means "Prostitute's Dinner". I can imagine that, when translating it, they confused "diner" with "dinner" and then just took a wild guess at what a "nighthawk" was. It's very unusual for an album title to be translated though, usually it would be "ナイトホークス アット ザ ダイナー" (which is just the name in katakana) but they seem to have made an exception. Could be that the Japanese refer to him as "The Drunken Poet" and over here that apparently means whores. Even the 2010 rerelease of this used this album name.

You can, but it will have no volume control. It will always be 100%

But it's extremely rare to not have a headphone jack.

You could also try a headphone amp. I've got one of these things plugged into the tape/line output on my amp so I can use headphones. Charges from USB so if you've got a PC or anything else with USB nearby you can leave it plugged in all the time. Otherwise it lasts a few hours on battery.

Given some of the song subject matter, it's not that bad of a title. It is possible they screwed up though.

So, I got a technical question about the Audio Technica LP-60, if anyone's got any experience with it. My perfectly good old turntable decided to break down, so I picked up a brand new LP-60 as a stop gap until I decide to get off my rear end and fix my other one. Well, every record I play on it sounds very slightly warped. Even brand new factory fresh discs. Looking at it edge-on while it was playing you can see a slight up and down "wobble" to each record it plays. Its not horrendously unplayably bad, and I totally get that the LP-60 is nowhere near an audophile type player, but it's annoying as gently caress to hear the slight pitch shifts during familiar songs and especially during long and sustained notes or vocals. Is there some underlying problem causing this, or is the LP-60 just that lovely by default?

They didn't specify. They just put out a new FAQ section and on the subject they said this:

quote:

We want our fans to purchase our records for the same reasons we create our records: because we love vinyl, we love music, and we love art. We do monitor eBay, and if we happen across a Vault member who is selling records meant to be exclusive to Vault members, we are at liberty to permanently terminate that Vault member's subscription.

I have no idea how they intend to identify Vault members by their ebay accounts. I think this is kind of hilarious though, because you know drat well people are going to be crying about this. Plus I always thought the flippers were dickheads.

You've already got some good answers, but my favorite is Music Millennium on E Burnside. They recently expanded and now have a pretty good sized room just for vinyl. Last time I was there (in July), I couldn't find any really hot prog albums that I've been looking for (I also wasn't there for very long, though), but they did have plenty of selection at fair prices. Beware if you're looking for anything brand new or rare, though, they kinda jack up prices on some stuff for whatever reason.

Are most Vault releases numbered? They could just keep tabs of which number they sent to which member. Assuming the ebay listing mentions the number, of course.

No, they aren't numbered. In fact Jack White never releases any information on how many of each Vault package is pressed specifically to mess with people who care about that poo poo. He basically loves records and trolling record collectors at the same time. It's pretty funny to me. Also, given that they only press one record set for each person who subscribes to the Vault during each quarter, flippers technically make each release less rare. I love the irony of that.
