I know in my heart that I'm nowhere near good enough or fastidious enough to shoot LF but these are gorgeous and they're really tempting me to start.

Start practising:
  • Stick your camera on a tripod
  • put a blanket over your head,
  • sigh and move the tripod one foot to the left
  • put head back under blanket
  • walk around for 2 minutes muttering "goddamn fogged glasses"
  • meter carefully, poo poo is expensive
  • sigh and move the tripod two feet to the right
  • wait for just the right moment and fire the shutter
  • curse forgetting to stop down the lens and/or forgetting to remove the darkslide god and all his creations
  • do all that again

Seriously, it's worth it. Buy a 4x5 right now.

Thanks! I suppose the lake one could use a bit of rotating, but I was hesitant to edit my film pictures. Shouldn't hurt though I guess.

I still have those moments with my TLR where I cock the shutter and then realize that the film is in a Schroedinger's cat state of wound / not wound uncertainty. I feel bad enough burning an extra exposure on a blank or an accidental double on medium format.

A blank is better than a double exposure, in my opinion. I do this with the rollfilm back for my LF camera... I average 8 shots per roll of 120 :smith:

I don't like the left third of this scene. I think it would be much stronger maybe cropped left of that trash can. The bright lights with contrasting colors just keeps drawing my eyes away from the bit I want to look at it in the house's backyard.

I'm pretty new at this whole taking pictures of rocks thing, so I'm hoping these aren't too bad. I finally got my tripod fixed, but I still need some ND filters and a polarizer. Why do I like expensive hobbies?

I'm pretty keen to get some filters too. Only one I've had so far was a crappy ND filter for kit lense that made everything a bit blurry.

Some graduated ND filters would be great, I'm always running of DR in high contrast scenes, where one would help.
And my favourite two lenses both take 77mm filters.

You want Gradient ND filters for scenes like this. Buy a Generic Cokin P or Z square filter holder and mounting hardware for like 12bux. Then buy actual good Cokin GradND filters. It should save you a bit of money. Cokin makes a kit for 89bux that comes with the filter holder and a couple of different Grads.

if you buy a Cokin square filter system and want to use it on more than one lens you will start to hate both Cokin and yourself

I have cracked the shits with my cokin bracket. The glass is fine, the bracket is flimsy, weak plastic rubbish and has horrible vignetting in wider lenses which can only be cropped. I looked at the z wide angle bracket and was same plastic flimsy shite.

My P holder came with 52mm through 77mm mounting hardware so there are no issues with using it over multiple lenses as long as I bring the right filter adapter :toot:
I am ok putting great glass filter in a 20bux cheap filter. In photobux cost averaging, thats a sweet cheap combo.

Sorry i should have clarified. The P holder over my 24mm lens (77mm adapter) (full frame) has really bad vignetting where you can see the shape of the bracket over good chunks of the frame. If you prefer/want wide angle shots with filters it might pay to look at the Z system or an adaptable one like LEE's wideangle

But i had no issue with cokin glass.
