Well... my angels decided that they needed to try again and now I have two leaves full of eggs. I will be buying a tank separator on Saturday to keep them away from the baby box because I think they are sucking the babies through the slots.

They look nice.. I like the Dutch style personally. Heavily planted tanks are great, I don't mind as much that I can't see the fish all the time so long as the water is clear, I don't require additional filtration and the fish are happy.

Finally was able to replenish my school of denison barbs. I had 2 survivors from my original group of 6 who have existed very peacefully for the last few months. But they did seem lonely and after a recent tank rearrangement and some new odessa barbs they were sticking in one small corner of the tank. So I picked up 3 new little (not so little) barbs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGCqV9j6SJM I wasn't taking any chances with these barbs. Had them in isolation for 24 hours in a methylene blue bath. Did a 5% water change before I put them in, and another 5% water change 24 hours later. So far so good - the little ones aren't getting chased by the 2 big ones, and in fact they're a lot more active an curious. The big ones will be shepherding them around the tank and now they "let" the little ones chase them. It will be great to see them grow up.

In an adult, those markings would be stress lines, but I dont know a thing about baby bettas. edit: Tore out a whole bunch of plants that werent working, shoved stuff around, planted more vals. Fish are all sulky and the filter's still working at clearing out the crap.

I tore out my water sprite because it looks gross after the leaves age a bit and my bronze crypts since they decided to turn from 12-leafed, 2 inch tall plants into 3 leafed, 4 inch tall gangly weirdos. Tank got too murky to see what the hell I was doing, so I'm letting it settle before doing some final pushing around. edit: Got home after work and yup, still cloudy.

I need to completely redo the fluval edge tank.  The giant duckweed stuff rooted down in my tanks and started expanding like crazy, so I had to pull out all but 2-3 individual plants.  Waiting for my mountain clouds and maculata to breed. I also have some mountain clouds in my Aquaponics ponds.

Progress on my bowl.. day 1  day 63.  The airstone is to keep it from getting stagnant while things will in. I will eventually remove it altogether. As you can see, poo poo is already growing out the side and the dwarf hairgrass has filled in nicely.

Looking for a tank mate for my 6 Zebra Danios. I only want to add one more fish. It's a 15 gallon tank so most huge fish are out. I was thinking maybe a sword tail? Or maybe a betta? Though I've read zebra danios can sometimes stress bettas. Any ideas? I just want something with color. I love my zebras but they're sort of dull looking. This is the current setup, not that it matters much, but it'll give you an idea of hiding places.

I think it's Amazon Frogbit, I think it loves being so close to the LED's that it went through an extensive root growth period and anchored itself, it's not something I wanted to happen. Some of the leaves also extend themselves up out of the water.

Yeah, my frogbits' roots are nowhere near as large now, only about an inch long. They've also shrunk since I got them from the seller who raised them in an outdoor pond. Rather than the inch diameter the leaves were before, they're now only the size of my thumbnail. They're cute that way and dont get in the way. When they were at full size they just took up so much space! Since your lighting is so great though, you might want to look at azolla if you're sick of fighting frogbit roots. I couldnt get it going because it demanded better lighting, but you might have better luck given how your floaters like it.

oh god no azolla ill take frogbit anyday Ive got both outside, frogbits got like, roots 1 foot long haha...but the azolla? everywhere. so much. its like duckweed. e: (ill mail anyone a elephant ton of azlla if they really need it) e2: baby bettas have stripes because they dont have full on colour yet

I would suggest the German Blue Ram. I had a pair of them in my old community tank and they where awesome. The ram would do well with the Danios and your tank because the ram needs smaller freely swimming fish to feel comfortable alone along with the good places to hide.

WTF is with this goddamn summer! For the first time in years my tap water comes out as 91* or higher. So I bought a 30 gallon drum, filled it, let it circulate overnight, and despite it being 83 in the house, the water is 84*. Either all my thermometers (digital, new batteries) are poo poo, or the AC control lies.

Guys I love my fish tank, we are at almost 3 weeks with fish in tank and everything is going great (still have an algae issue but the ottos are seriously handling it.) The golden rams and glo-tetras seem to love it all too. My only issue is the sheer amount of poop the ottos make. There is a lot and is there a recommended snail that likes to eat Otto poop? Otherwise this tank is awesome.

I saw this algae eater at the Georgia Aquarium happily working away in one of the river tanks. Unfortunately, since it was a work-fish instead of a display-fish, there was no label to tell me what it is! Does this look familiar to anyone? It's adorable. I'm thinking some kind of plecky-relative?

I have these guys! Or I am pretty sure I do. Sewellia lineolata. Mine are in a sponge-filter only tank, little to no current, tons of rocks and algae, and until the water temps from the sink cooked 95% of them, bred like crazy. Do best in species tanks and are loving hilarious to watch. My mom calls them baby banjo cats or stingrays.

I have one of those dudes in my 55 gallon. Its known as a reticulated hillstream loach, or a borneo loach. They are semi-schooling in that they like company, but will work just fine without a buddy. My LFS says they'll only eat green algae, but I've seen mine chow down on brown algae too. They also come in a spotted pattern  I had one of those in my tank too - but when my heater decided to crank the temperature up to 36C the poor thing didn't make it. They are a lot of fun to watch swimming around the tank during feeding time, they move like little manta rays! Mine likes to chase the corys around, but really can only move in 2 dimensions at one time - the corys just jump up a little to avoid him.

FML I got a new little betta not even two weeks ago to replace Max who passed away a few months ago, and I killed him. He was a tiny little guy, a runt who the breeder was getting rid of. I put him in the same aquarium and due to the current from the in-tank filter I used a panty hose to cover the intake so he would not get sucked up. Everything was great for a week, the hose needed to be rinsed off because it gets gunked up fast. I was going to do it yesterday since I work from home but with the holiday on Monday I left my laptop at work locked up on Tuesday thinking it was the Monday so I had to go in. Yesterday morning I propped it open a little so there was inflow into the filter enough to not burn out the motor and I would change it when I got home. He must have swam up and got sucked in.. I should have changed the loving thing the night before but no. Everything fell into place.. the wrong place. Between me forgetting my laptop and not doing my due diligence this happens. I was so upset I broke down the aquarium completely, packed up everything in the closet, removed the stand from my office. Actually I took it out into the garage and in a fit of anger too a 5 lb sledgehammer to it and broke it to pieces. That is it for me with bettas, no new fish for that matter. I am a terrible human being.

Or the time I didn't cover the eel tank all the way and came in to find three feet of Eel, the moray, dead on the tile. It sucks. It happens, sadly...
