Sort of Gold, you certainly don't see these any more. Even if the NA versions had a solid axle and didn't get the good engine option (4G63T). http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/4047614424.html

http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1988-Volvo-240-Wagon-W0QQAdIdZ519688109 $550 Bucks for an '88 240 Volvo Wagon. I have a SBC 350 and I'm looking for something to throw it in, I think this might be a good candidate. Anyone know about this swap? Or other general old Volvo comments?

As ^^ mentioned, there are certainly out of province inspections and an insurance company will often request a mechanical/safety inspection with an older car getting put on the policy for the first time. Once your registered though, you're right, the condition of some of the poo poo I've seen on the roads is

While you guys are right about out of province inspections, there are still some guys out in the sticks who will pass almost anything if you persuade them with a case of beer. I've never heard of needing a safety inspection by your insurance company, but I guess it makes sense.

Pretty much all I've ever been required to do by insurance companies is a few pictures to prove that yes, in fact, they are insuring a vehicle. I usually also include a pic of the VIN and odo so that matches with the records they have. OOP inspections on bikes is lame, though. I brought my bone stock 2002 Kawi ZR-7S from BC to Alberta, and they had me add reflectors, and gave me poo poo for having d/s tyres on a road bike. Pretty sure that Transport Canada has national regs on motor vehicles, and that it didn't vary, province to province. I'm thinking that they were just applying current regs to an older vehicle and that's why. Still annoying, though.

Basically it was all humvees and h1s of various types one stock h3 but all the h2s were over modified clown cars. Ill probably end up picking a Stock adventure series H2 down the road. 15-20k for a v8 full size 4x4 with full lockers and a air compressor isn't a bad deal.
