vaginal culture posted:A ton of referees are extreme beta males and allow themselves to get mistreated by not being assertive enough, in my opinion. I'm sure I've read that part of a ref's job is to 'absorb' some of the players anger so that they're less likely to take out on another player on the pitch. Lots of times a player is upset at his and his teams failings but has to express it outwardly and the ref is willing to take it on the chin (within reason) in order for more controlled football to be seen by us spectators which makes them heroes imo.

I must admit, I've always wanted to see a ref flash yellows at every player who crowds him after a penalty decision. But it'd set a precedent that would hinder the game rather than help it.

Whereas Mike Riley used to look like he was on the verge of a breakdown every time players got in his face. Yep I think Webb is a pretty good ref and gets far too much poo poo for the World Cup final. My cop friend lurves him because he's a rozzer too tho and that makes me barf a bit.

Mic the refs like in other sports. Standardise yellows for crowding. Pathetic, effete confrontations where (often two teams of) whining primadonnas swarm the officials add nothing to the game. They do, however, present Sky et al an opportunity to generate "controversy" that they can endlessly rehash and furthermorzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I remember when McFadden got sent off in the 11th minute of a carling cup game against Arsenal for saying "that's loving poo poo" about a decision and got a straight red, and no-one was sent off ever again. We lost that game.
