I agree with the sentiment, but Rush Revere is such an absurd novelty I think if I was building a book collection, I couldn't not pick up a copy. Hopefully in thirty years, possession of such a book will be cause for suspicion and ostracism, and not an eBay $300 collector's item.

 Holy poo poo, both Rush Revere and that horse are riding deep into Uncanny Valley. Look at that cover art. No child in the history of the world would ever pick that book up, based just on that. A week or two ago he spent at least 15 minutes ranting about how anyone who said they like Metallica but started listening after the black album was released was a poser. An hour later I got back in my car and he was ranting about how if you don't really like a band, you should give your concert tickets to someone who does instead of going yourself.

I was listening to local AM radio Saturday evening and they had The Larry Kudlow Show on. Kudlow bills himself as a conservative economist and his show has a lot of focus on the economy and finance but he doesn't limit himself to subjects he supposedly knows about and will venture into any conservative issue. But two things struck me while listening to him. First, there is no such thing as a progressive or liberal business/financial news program. Every one of them is myopic in its world economic view. Every time anyone on these shows talks about economic growth they immediately start talking about job creators and freeing up the economy to grow without government intervention. Or they are dominated by guys like Jim Cramer whose sole purpose is to separate fools from their money on behalf of Wall Street. Its a rare day when anyone on these shows talks about any other world economic view. Second, the degree to which the whole "I'm a conservative but I can't support these Republicans anymore who don't fight for conservative ideas" thing is incredible to me. Every talking head I've listened to recently is parroting this idea of a difference between true conservatives and the GOP. I see this as a major shift among talking head types. Is the purpose to drive the GOP further to the right or is it really intended to lay the base for a third party, or is it just a cynical way of increasing and sustaining listener rage? Either way, its insane and I don't get it.

Some buy into the "they ban it 'cause they can't tax it" reasoning, but many know about the lobbying and racism that led to its current legal status. I think there's broad public acknowledgement that at least those with glaucoma and cancer ought to get a pass for the stuff. I've been able to get some acceptance for decriminalization and legalization by comparing it to other drugs. It's nonaddictive, has valid medical properties with few interactions, can be safely grown at home, and is less chemically processed than cigarettes. If it's right to ban marijuana, then it's right to ban alcohol and tobacco, to make Tylenol/Aspirin/etc a restricted purchase, and tightly regulate caffeine products. Are your facebook people posting with any sort of reasoning, or just "BWARGH LIBERAL DEVIL WEED. JAZZ CIGARETTES!" blather?

I went to several Tea Party-esque meetings in 2010 and the organizer made it very clear that their main goal is to infiltrate the GOP and force it further right. Why fight from the grass roots and wait decades to form a new party when you can just use the primary process to infest one of two available hosts? This is still very much a two-party nation and that's why people like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have an (R) after their name instead of a (T).
