The 1998 has new tires versus "OK" tires on the 1996. Also says its been tuned up recently and it has less miles. What are some of the features on the SE that aren't on the Interstate besides reverse?

I like doodads so I'd personally try to work the 1998 guy down to $5500 or something. Then figure you will be saving another $400 or more off the bat not having to buy and mount new tires and you're really only paying a grand more to talk to truckers while riding an awesome couch down the highway.

All things being equal I'd go for the 96, but like ^^ says the 98 has the new boots and a tune up (probably plugs and fluids) and 1/3 less miles.

I'd work on haggling the 98 down.

Alternatively, talk to the 96 guy. If you could get a really good deal on the 96 since its the end of season and he wants to ditch it, it might be worthwhile.

I swear this will be my last post soliciting opinions on Goldwings.

I think I hit the old Goldwing jackpot:

goldwing gl1100 - $1600 (pueblo)
1980 goldwing gl1100 - $2200 (pueblo) (same bike?)
1978 goldwing gl1000 - $3200 (pueblo)
1976 goldwing gl1000 - $3200 (pueblo)

My god, they're all beautiful. And considering they're being sold by as restored by a Goldwing mechanic, they seem fairly priced.

I think I like the black and white '80 GL1100 the best. What do ya'll think?

Now, normally I wouldn't laugh at this type of thing, but.. come on, put some effort into actually selling your bike. Also I was going to say that this is a predominantly english speaking country (Australia), then I saw the seller's contact information is "Abdul", so there is that, I guess.

I like both the nakeds. If they run and handle as good as they look, any of those would probably make you a solid bike for a while to come. I wouldn't really want to pay $3,000 for any that old in most cases; but I don't know your market and it's entirely possible he has put in all the work he claims to have done. If he's done all the work he says on them and they're sound, you wouldn't be getting robbed.

(Also, the red is awesome strictly because it says DANGER on the front where the Honda logo should be.)

I think if that white one is in good shape and only has 32K on it, that's the one I'd lean towards especially if you can score it for $1600, or maybe less.

I'm not a fan of the vetter and bags on the grey one.

Red one looks sharp too, but the dude probably knows his wings pretty well so I'd ask him why the white one is so cheap compared to the others.

Those look pretty sweet. The $1600 and $2200 are the same bike. The $1600 ad is posted 6 days after the $2200 ad, though I'm sure you figured that out by now.

Get one of the nakeds. I'm partial toward the white but like someone mentioned, figure out why it is so much cheaper than the red one.

Picked up the '80 GL1100 this last weekend. The '76 was quite pretty in person, but $1,500 was less painful than $3,200.

On the ride back to Denver from Pueblo, I rode through the most intense rain I've ever ridden in on I-25. It was pretty drat frightening, actually, but at least the thunder and lightning made me feel like a badass. Thanks for your advice, slidebite, EvilSlug, Abe Froman, and the other folks who helped me make my decision!

Congrats. It looks great and you should really enjoy the thing for a while to come. You might want to invest in crash bars at some point so you have somewhere to stick highway pegs and an easier time picking the heavy bugger up if it ever falls over. There's a pretty great community of old guys over at goldwingfacts.com who can answer any question I don't have an immediate answer to.

I'd probably change the oil and filter on it soon regardless of what he said he'd done to it. I do that with every bike I buy. (I also do timing belts on old wings because I don't trust anybody; but that's a bit more involved than an oilchange.) If you start riding with other Goldwing riders, get ready to gain 10 pounds. All of the old guys know where to eat so their rides often have midpoints and endpoints of restaurants. :D

$1000 at best - that's if the battery is good enough to turn the bike over to show the motor isn't fragged.

It could be a couple things depending the exact spot. If it's running down the kickstand, 90% of the time it's just chain oil that's been collecting under the front sprocket cover. 10 minutes to remove, clean and put back on. The leak I've fixed twice on mine was the left side stator cover, takes a couple hours and an oil change, but pretty simple. Also read the cam chain tensioner and right crankcase gasket are other common leaks.

Not bad if you can't find the original; but don't expect to be able to use parts interchangeably. Feels a tiny bit heavier. Its powerband is different. Less low end power; but you can still get the wheel up and it has plenty of power at the higher end. Might have to replace a stator down the road; but that's the only major complaint I've heard on them.

If I could find an SV for the same price, I'd choose the SV; but if I couldn't find an SV or this was way cheaper I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with it.

Out here in Texas I was just at a vintage shop where they had 3 RE5s in the back waiting to be picked up. Don't know where they found them but they immediately had a buyer (same guy for all three). One was in pristine condition, the other I'd call good, all the bits were there but things were rusting and needed fresh paint. The last one was missing everything that had to do with the body/styling.

and of course Jay Leno has one:

Time to look for my first bike now that I've finished my MSF. I've been looking at SV650s and Ninja 250/500s. For SV650s how many miles is reasonable on them? There're a lot of older early 2000 SV650s for sale in my area with 30-40k miles on them, that seems high to me for a motorcycle but I don't know if that's actually or a problem or if it's just that a lot of motorcycles don't get ridden that much.

So far looking at these two:
http://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/mcy/4071391010.html
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/4125752180.html

I'm fairly mechanically competent with cars and I looked over the procedure for replacing the sprockets/chain and it seems straightforward enough. Everything else I assume isn't a big deal unless there's something truly mystical about motorcycle exhausts/brakes I'm unaware of. The yellow one seems like a more straightforward purchase but I like working on things and I'm concerned that the yellow one didn't mention the chain/sprocket and has a lot of miles as well, so it may need it too.

Is a CB750 too big for a first bike because I really like the look of this one also:

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/4119517434.html

There're a bunch of ninja 500s but they're all far away so I wouldn't be able to look at them anytime soon anyway, and I like the SV650s more if I can find the right one. For whatever reason most of the 250s that are for sale seem really overpriced.
